  7. Jasper Age: 7.5 Sex: Male Location: East Devon Can be Re-homed With Children: Maybe Teenagers Can be Re-homed with Dogs: Yes can be Re-homed with Cats: Unknown Neutered: Yes Vaccinated: Yes Microchipped: Yes Tail: Long Jasper is a very handsome and much loved springer. He is looking for a home where he will get lots of exercise and even more importantly a lot of mental stimulation. Jasper's new home must have a totally secure garden which he could not escape from. In the past he has managed to get out of the garden and that's where all his problems have started. He has a very boisterous temperament and when he escaped he charged up to children passing by and frightened them. Jasper has also shown a certain amount of resource guarding around a bone. When approached by a child whilst he was feeding on the bone he nipped the child. These issues would be fairly easy to resolve by not letting Jasper get into a situation where he felt the need to guard food or territory. In the house Jasper is extremely affectionate and loves fuss and attention. He would make a wonderful companion for someone with experience and patience to help him overcome his issues. Ideally he would be suited to a home with older children. He has grown up with two girls who are now teenagers and who adore him. His co-ordinator has said: In the right hands Jasper would make a super dog with masses of affection to give. If you would like to offer Jasper a new forever home, please contact his coordinator Heidrun: http://www.essw.co.uk/#/contact-us/4531488534

  9. Merlin Age: 5 Sex: Male Location: Surrey Can go with Children? Yes - Older, sensible children Can go with Dogs? No Can go with Cats? Yes Neutered: Yes Vaccinated: Yes Microchipped: Yes Tail: 3/4 Tail Merlin is a very sweet natured and affectionate dog that would like nothing better than to cuddle up on the sofa with you and to go on lots of long walks. His owners are reluctantly rehoming due to a change in circumstances. Merlin does not like some other dogs on walks, but this is since being attacked while on a walk which resulted in a wound on his side that needed surgery so is currently muzzled when on walks unless no other dogs are around but we feel that this can be worked on. Merlin would prefer to live with someone who is home most of the day, who loves to go for long walks and is happy for him to cuddle up on the sofa with them. If you think the lovely Merlin is the perfect dog for you please complete our adoption form here: http://www.essw.co.uk/#/how-to-adopt/4531487733 You can also contact Merlin's area co-ordinator Linda Ralph here: http://www.essw.co.uk/#/contact-us/4531488534 He can also be seen on our forum here: http://essw.freeforums.org/merlin-surrey-t261.html
  10. Jake Age: 3 Sex: Male Location: Kent Can go with Children? No Can go with Dogs? No Can go with Cats? No Neutered: Yes Vaccinated: Yes Microchipped: Yes Tail: Long ake is a lovely dog that loves to play with a ball, however he can be fearful due to past treatment and is protective over food which has caused him to bite on more than 1 occassion. Jake needs an experienced consistent and kind handler that is able to work with him in relation to his concerns over food and fear which we feel with the right treatment can be successfully managed. If you think that you offer Jake the kind of home he needs, he will make a wonderful pet and a loving companion. If you think you can give Jake the loving home he needs please complete the adoption form on our website: http://www.essw.co.uk/#/how-to-adopt/4531487733 You can also contact his area co-ordinator Linda Ralph: http://www.essw.co.uk/#/contact-us/4531488534 Jake is also on our Forum here: http://essw.freeforums.org/jake-kent-t260.html
  11. Timmy Age: 11 Years Sex: Male Location: Bristol Can be Re-homed With Children? Yes - Older, sensible Children Can be Re-homed with Dogs? Yes Can be Re-homed with Cats? No - he chases them Neutered? Yes Vaccinated? Yes Microchipped? Yes Tail: Half Dock Timmy is (possibly) a springer cross currently living in Bristol and needing a new home. He is predominantly liver coloured but has some brown and white fur, almost tri-coloured. Although he is about 11 years old, he is fit and lively and has a placid, gentle temperament. He responds well to simple commands and is good on a lead. His coat is soft and his teeth are good. He has been well cared for. Unfortunately his owner has recently moved to sheltered accommodation and is unable to keep him there. He is presently living with the owner's daughter, who has a rescued Siamese cat. Timmy unfortunately wants to play with the cat and chases it. In my opinion, Timmy has still many years of healthy life ahead. He needs a home where there are no cats or young children. He will settle down quickly and will get on with other dogs. We really want Timmy to get his new home before Christmas if possible! He deserves to be somewhere warm and cosy as quickly as possible so he can start to settle again. If you can give a good forever home to Timmy, please ring Alison Butcher on 01934 842238 Link to Website: http://www.essw.co.uk/#/timmy-alison-11210/4546173992 Link to ESSW Forum: http://essw.freeforums.org/timmy-bristol-t251.html
  12. Aldo's details have recently been updated to reflect how well he's been doing in his Foster Home, he is still looking for that special forever home!
  13. Barney (B&W) & Skye (L&W) Age: 6 (Brother and Sister) Sex: Barney Male - Skye Female Location: South Devon Can be Re-homed with Dogs? Yes: Together and/or with existing dogs Can be Re-homed with Cats? No Can be Re-homed with Children? No Vaccinated: Yes Microchipped: Yes Neutered: Yes Tail: 1/2 dock Skye and Barney are very unfortunately looking for a home together, this is something that their owners are very sad about as they are much loved dogs and family members. Skye and Barney are both cuddle monsters of the most lovable kind, both as soft as they come, unfortunately Barney especially has taken a strong dislike to the family's latest member which has recently started running around and every time the two year old toddler comes anywhere near him he warns her off with a very loud growl, nothing has ever gone any further than this and the owners in there desperation to find a cure did seek the help of a behaviourist who explained that Barney is very stressed around the young child, they have the safety guards of stair gates etc and very vigilant but the icing on the cake was when Skye also growled, this may have been because the toddler caught her unawares or it may have been that she is picking up on the stress of her litter mate but either way understandably it means that Skye and Barney must find a new home without the stresses of young children. Both dogs greeted us calmly and warmly at the assessment and sat either side of our assessors legs asking for fusses and tummy tickles, they are both adorable dogs and so well behaved you wouldn't know you had adopted two dogs apart from there difference in colour. They have even been trained not to go upstairs without the use of a stair guard, they wait patiently at the foot of the stairs unless invited up. They can pull on a lead and head collars would be advised and the owners assure us that they are very good and well behaved off lead with recall to. Barney can be a little bit vocal when some dogs approach especially if he is sat having a cuddle with his owners, sometimes even with Skye, this is easily sorted by putting him on the floor with a firm no command and teaching him that it is unacceptable behaviour, just like with a naughty toddler. Barney and Skye's current owners would love for us to find them a home where they can stay together because Skye adores Barney and looks to him for reassurance, we feel this would be the best possible outcome for the both of them, they don't want for the dogs to have to spend there lives behind a stair gate separated from the people they love and who love them back so have asked us to find them a new home where they can stay together and be loved and adored as they always have been. If you think you can offer this wonderful pair their new forever home please see our adoption procedures here: http://essw.freeforums.org/essw-contact-details-and-paperwork-f46.html or our website here: http://www.essw.co.uk/#/how-to-adopt/4531487733 You can also see more pictures of them on our website here: http://www.essw.co.uk/#/skye-and-barney-selina-6910/4543731366
  14. Lucy Age: 7-8 Sex: Female Location: Southampton Can be Re-homed with Dogs? Yes, Possibly Can be Re-homed with Cats? No Can be Re-homed with Children? Yes - Teenagers and above Vaccinated: Yes Microchipped: No Neutered: Possibly Tail: 3/4 dock Lucy has been quite unlucky we feel, she was found as a stray after she was hit by a car and needed veterinary attention, luckily for her it turned out to be lacerated leg so she was soon taken to the council kennels, she was absolutely terrified of the kennels and this is where her luck started to change, the kennel manager offered her a foster home to take her away from all the noise and fear of the kennels where she started to see a different dog start to shine. Her carer has been doing a lot of socialisation work with Lucy as she was terrified of other dogs approaching her at first and would lunge and bark at them telling them to leave her alone because she was so scared, she is now able to walk past dogs without showing her fear and is improving with every day, this training will need to be continued with Lucy but we do feel she could be re-homed with another calm dog and this would even help her confidence improve. Because we don't know anything about Lucy's past we can't re-home her with young children but teenagers are fine. We also don't know 100% if she has been spayed but the vet that saw her recently is pretty sure that he can feel scar tissue from a spay operation, however to be on the safe side we will say we are unsure as to wether she is spayed or not and whoever takes her on must do so knowing that if she does come into season she must be spayed as per our contract within 3 months after her season. Lucy also likes eating plastic bags, we think she must have strayed for some time and has learnt that plastic bags mean food so any new owner must be very careful with leaving rubbish around and whilst out on walks. Lucy loves people and whilst can be a little nervous initially she soon comes around and likes nothing more than some gentle fussing and love to be shown to her, she is of a quiet disposition indoors but comes to life when outside :-) she has been crate trained and can be left for up to 4 hours very happily once she is familiar with her surroundings. Lucy is a very laid back dog that is looking for a home where she can forget her past and start afresh with a family to love and adore her. If you think you can offer Lucy her forever home please see our adoption procedures here: http://www.essw.co.uk/#/how-to-adopt/4531487733 Lucy is also on our website: http://www.essw.co.uk/#/lucy-louise-6910/4543730590 and Forum here: http://essw.freeforums.org/lucy-southampton-t157.html
  15. Aldo Age: 1-3 Sex: Male Location: Norfolk Can be Re-homed with Children: Yes, Older Children, see below Can be Re-homed with Dogs: Yes, see below Can be Rehomed with Cats: Unknown Neutered: Yes Vaccinated: Yes Microchipped: No Tail: Long Aldo was picked up as a stray in Wales. A big strong dog, estimated age 18 months. He was initially in foster with our Bath Coordinator. He was described as being affectionate, loyal and good with children and an easy house dog. He was also impossibly strong on a lead and not good at meeting other dogs -lots of lunging and barking. His foster carer took him to socialization classes where it was suggested his approach to other dogs was like a "bull in a china shop", and fear based behaviour. To give Aldo a kick start to his training he was brought up to a foster carer in Norfolk (called James). James is very quiet with dogs but sets very clear ground rules. Aldo has been hit in the past and does not respond to being shouted at. James thinks a quietly spoken but confident female handler - with a family of school age children, would suit Aldo. James has spent considerable time socializing Aldo -he goes everywhere - the shops, the park, the vets (just to sit in the waiting room), out with a bike and has met many, many dogs. Those that he is familiar with he is far less reactive to. His behaviour on the lead is much improved too. Four weeks later and Aldo came to see me - a bit of a test for him, to see how he behaves with me and with the excitement of a stange place and new smells. I had already seen him when I was one of the team bringing him up to Norfolk. I took him for a walk, no tension on lead and no strength required. However, everytime his collar checks we stop and most of the time he trots around back to me. This regime is followed either on a 2.5 metre line or a very short lead (to encourage some degree of heel work). It did take us 3 times as long to do the normal walk but I was seeing Aldo at his worst and most exciteable (which was pretty good and masses better than when I saw him a month ago). We met a dog and whilst he did bark and lunge initially, James puts him into a down, and he happily stays there very relaxed (loose lead of course). James says nothing and ignores any barking (can't teach them everything at the same time). That's what is so nice, although it is very repetitive, no tension on the lead makes Aldo easy to manage. Back at my house he met my dog outside -a bit of a fuss which was over in a few seconds. We then bring him inside -my dog is free and Aldo has to stay in another room - but no door inbetween. Aldo stays there with just a few reminders whilst my dog pottered around . Aldo didn't bat an eyelid!! With James and Aldo everything is very black and white -no giving into a pleading look! James is continually reminding Aldo who the boss is -always goes through a door first, makes him lie down while he waits a long time for his tea. This isnt to restrict any dominance this is purely to teach Aldo good canine manners and routine. He took all the comings and goings in my house in his stride, and is a nice well mannered house dog. Whoever is lucky enough to adopt Aldo has to carry on with his training. He is ready to go to training classes and would benefit from clicker or whistle training. He should not be allowed off lead until he is perfect on lead and always comes when he is called. It may take another couple of months but James has done the hardest bit. Training a dog yourself is part of the bonding process and we hope to find someone soon to take on this challange. Is that you? 16. I am happy to report that Ben has now been REHOMED!
  17. Alfie - Now Rehomed!! Age: 20 Months Sex: Male Location: Hampshire Can be Rehomed with Children: Older Children Can be Rehomed with Dogs: Yes Can be Rehomed with Cats: Yes Neutered: No, this is part of the adoption contract Vaccinated: No Microchipped: Yes Tail: Full Alfie hasn't had the best start in life and has recently gone through several changes in quick succession, needless to say this has left him a little unsure of himself. His second family had him for a day and when after picking up a shoe he growled didnt want him any more, this of course is being assessed to establish wether this was play on his part or a classic case of guarding something he finds high value. He is currently in foster care with two other dogs and a cat and gets on well with all three. He travels well in a car and is used to being in a crate. Early assessment shows that Alfie being a normal energetic springer is looking for a home that can provide him with lots of exercise and mental stimulation, he would thrive with a job to do such as gundog work or agility but any owner will need to start from scratch with him as he only knows basic commands, on the plus side he has pretty good recall, which if you ask us is a massive bonus and a good place to take things further. Alfie hasnt seen much routine in his life and we think he has been excluded from being with his family because of his energy, a classic tale of a working type springer in the wrong home, sadly for him. Lets rectify that and get him in the right home. If you think you can offer the most wonderful Alfie his forever home you can complete our adoption paperwork here: http://www.essw.co.u...dopt/4531487733 Alfie is on our website here: http://www.essw.co.u...0810/4543269300 and on our Forum here: http://essw.freeforu...alfie-t135.html
  18. Charlie Age: 2.5 Sex: Male Location: Dorset Can be Rehomed with Children: Yes Can be Rehomed with Dogs: Yes Can be Rehomed with Cats: Yes Neutered: Yes Vaccinated: Yes Microchipped: No Tail: Long Due to Charlie’s previous owners change in circumstances, he was being left for long periods of time by himself and was getting frustrated and bored. He barked and cried much to the annoyance of the neighbours. Charlie can initially be nervous of new people but soon settles and is a very friendly and affectionate chap. He is a big dog, but will need to have his exercise built up slowly to build muscle tone and stamina. His previous exercise has been mostly on the lead. He needs a home with someone who can provide more exercise and stimulation and some more training. He would respond well to this and make a really lovely family dog. He has settled well in his foster home with three other Springers and two cats. An experienced Springer owner would be better for him as he is likely to be very lively and boisterous to start off with and may try to dominate. However with regular exercise and a bit more training he will soon settle into a stable routine. He needs to know that he does not have to try and take charge of a situation if he is unsure or nervous. He has simply not been taught the doggy social graces when out, but is extremely well behaved in the house and garden. He does pull a bit on the lead, but with some more training and more exercise this will reduce. He is currently in foster care and has gained a huge amount of confidence living with other dogs. He really is a lovely chap and very handsome! He will make someone a great companion. If you think you can offer Charlie a new home, please complete the adoption pack here: http://www.essw.co.uk/#/how-to-adopt/4531487733 Charlie's details area also on our website here: http://www.essw.co.uk/#/charlie-hilary-1810/4542811671 and on our forum here: http://essw.freeforums.org/charlie-dorset-t116.html
  19. Ben Age: 9 Sex: Male Location: Cornwall Can be re-homed with children: Yes Can be re-homed with cats: Yes Can be re-homed with dogs: Yes Neutered: Yes Vaccinated: Yes Microchipped: Yes Tail: Half Dock Ben has spent most of his life in a working home and therefore has confused his recent owner of 3 months when he caught and killed one of her chickens, apart for his new found obsession with her poultry and that given the chance we think he would chase sheep he is a lovely boy, after initially being a little unsure of our assessor greeted her warmly and enjoyed a good fuss which included her checking his ears, teeth etc, he sat quite happily enjoying the attention. Ben currently lives with cats and is very happy with them in the same house as him. Ben would be very happy in a home that has no livestock, he is friendly and obedient, like most springers given half the chance will pull on a lead but with the use of a gentle lead head collar this would be prevented. If you think you could offer an older dog a loving retirement home then Ben would be the dog for you. You can find the adoption forms here: http://www.essw.co.uk/#/how-to-adopt/4531487733 Ben can be found on our website here: http://www.essw.co.uk/#/ben-selina080810/4542974331 and on our Forum here: http://essw.freeforu...rnwall-t71.html
  20. Jess @ ESSW Age: 3 Sex: Female Location: Devon Can be re-homed with children: Teenagers and above Can be re-homed with cats: Yes, calm confident cats Can be re-homed with dogs: Yes, possibly Neutered: Yes Vaccinated: Yes Microchipped: No Tail: Full Dock Jess is a gorgeous liver and white working type ESS, she has had two previous homes and has been in foster care for assessment due to her nipping a child in her last home. When Jess first arrived in foster care she became very frightened and withdrawn and wouldn’t interact with us, she needed time and space to trust us and know we weren't a threat to her, she had gone through a very traumatic time and didn't understand what was happening. It took her about 12 hours to settle down before she would let us approach her happily, we let her do everything in hr own time until she was ready to come to us, when she did she came over ever so slowly and crawled onto her foster carers lap for a bit of a snuggle. From that point on she was a different dog. She is in foster care with other dogs and two cats, she is very happy with the other dogs but does like to be a little bit protective of high value chewy treats and if re-homed with another dog then we would advise that they are fed separately initially until she was fully settled. We think she could also live happily with calm confident cats, she does like to watch the cats in foster care and has chased them once or twice but on all occasions can be recalled away from them with no concerns. She travels happily in a car crate and will jump in and out of the car, when tried in the footwell of a car she did get quite scared and anxious, we feel she would be be much happier when traveling in either a car crate or in a seat belt harness on the back seat. Jess needs an owner that can accommodate her being scared initially with a new change whilst she is settling in but who will accept that after a little time she will come out of this and once the trust is there is going to be a wonderful pet and companion. If you think you could offer Jess a forever home you can download an adoption form here: http://www.englishspringerspanielwelfare.co.uk/#/how-to-adopt/4531487733 Jess is on our website here: http://www.englishspringerspanielwelfare.co.uk/#/jess-selina-14810/4543122018 and can be seen on our Forum here: http://essw.freeforums.org/miss-essw-august-2010-jess-t81.html
  21. Oakley Age: 6 Sex: Male Location: St Albans, Hertfordshire Can be re-homed with children: No - Teens and above Can be re-homed with cats: Yes - Calm confident cats Can be re-homed with dogs: Yes possibly Neutered: Yes Vaccinated: Yes Microchipped: Yes Tail: Full Dock As you can see Oakley is a gorgeous show type Springer of excellent pedigree and very well mannered, he has a good standard of obedience training and walks wonderfully on a collar and lead, a rarity for a Springer, and is also well behaved off lead. So why is Oakley needing a new home? Oakley can be possessive around food and high value items, his current owners have a growing family and are finding it increasingly difficult to manage Oakley and the other dog in there house whilst the children have food around them. Oakley gets on very well with the other dog but will attack him when there is food around, this in itself is obviously very dangerous with little people around so his owners have decided to find Oakley a new home where he doesn't have all these temptations around him and feel the need to protect. He has on occasion also 'borrowed' items and hidden under the dining room table refusing to give them back, our advice would be to turn this into a game and teach him to swap, something that one of our foster carers has done very successfully recently and would be happy to talk to any potential owner about. The last thing we want to do is make out that Oakley is a monster, he so definitely is not, in his assessor's words "Oakley is 99.9% of excellent temperament especially with people, he would really thrive in a home with no young children and possibly as an only dog" We feel that a knowledgeable home with another dog present with experience of food possession could be considered also. Oakley is used to company so a retired couple or a home where there is someone home most of the time would be perfect for Oakley. If you think you could give Oakley the home he deserves, please download an adoption application pack here: http://www.englishspringerspanielwelfar ... 4531487733 You can see Oakley on the ESSW website here: http://www.englishspringerspanielwelfar ... 4542810133
