  1. for Trudi Still no sign of an apology from the IT director - no real surprise there. I have now got to order a load of telephones but need to order them all gradually on seperate orders as apparently that will make it seem like I am spending less money than I really am Sometimes I find this place difficult to understand - no doubt my next telling off will be for making too many individual orders
  2. Just got back from having x-rays for hurty knee 13 months after I actually hurt it It all got very confused when the x-ray guy tried to give me the x-rays to give to the consultant. I am not seeing the consultant until after he has got the x-rays but x-ray chap tried to tell me I must see him today I am hoping he just meant that was what normally happens as opposed to my knee is really falling apart
  3. Excellent news about Lucky My boss complained to the IT director last night about him having a go at me across the office last week The IT director will be apologising to me at some stage today - hmmm - that will be nice then
  4. all fingers crossed her for the little guy
  5. My bag has been gradually packed all week I can't wait!! When I am struggling with decisions I use the trusty sheet of paper with for and against for each choice and that usually helps me see clearer what is the best choice
  6. Puppy pictures are gorgeous Good Luck KP I am still messing about doing no work at all after being spoken to like I am stupid by IT director
  7. I went to one a few weeks ago - I agree - WOW indeed
  8. If the IT director has an issue with something he thinks I should have done and have not is it really necessary to shout from one end of the office to the other If he thinks that is how he motivates me he is very wrong and I will mostly be doing very little today
  9. Glad to hear Kiera is home We are back from obedience too - Gnasher was not perfect On his first attempt at a recall he wandered off to have a look at a spider walking around on the floor for his second attempt he waited, came to me and then spun round in circles in front of me eventually he stopped circling and sat down - then went straight into a begging position I don't think we are cut out for a serious obedience career somehow although the whole class enjoyed his show

    Diabetic Dog

One of my friends had a cavalier with diabetes for several years. I think the main thing once he was stabalised with his medication was to keep him to a pretty regular routine so no sudden long walks and no huge food treats and with that he was fine. He did sleep upstairs with them and a couple of times woke them in the night when he needed sugar and was going low but basically he was a heppy chap and they all adapted pretty well to the routine.
  12. Hope he is soon feeling much better
  13. I live in Coventry with my two lovely dogs, Lady an almost 11 year old whippety something who likes barking lots and Gnasher a 6 year old collie/terrier type cross who was an RSPCA case dog and has taken a long time to learn to trust the world again. I used to run a small flyball club and now help out at my local obedience club.
  14. With Lady to start I just put the target stick low on the floor between her front legs and she bent back to touch it - the problem is you have to be really quick to catch the bow movement before the dog lays down (at least with Lady who tend to do things quite speedily when she knows there is food on offer ) I was lucky enough to go to one of Mary Rays caberet evenings last week and she used quite a bit of free time where she let the dogs offer behaviour and then clicked if it was something she liked and I am trying to use this with my two as well at the moment. Lady has caught on to the idea straight away and I am mostly being offered bows which I am happily accepting and trying to add the cue to and shape longer times. Gnasher has still not got enough of an idea about clicker training to know what he is meant to be doing if I am not helping him so we are still struggling with him!!
  15. I had to look to see why on earth you were teaching Ash to hold a bow and whether the arrows were part of next weeks lesson I am doing the same thing at the moment with Lady and she also is very quick to go into the down - what I am trying to do is hold out slightly on the click so if she is too quick so does not get a click and treat and hopefully lengthen it that way - we are still in early days though so not sure yet if that is working

    Acupuncture

Only just spotted this!! My lad has been having acupuncture treatment for around 18 months now - he is in a similar situation as he is only six. I did have a problem at the end of last summer when my vet went in to hospital himself for a hip operation and I needed to find another vet. I tracked down another vets (through a helpful DP recommendation) and called them and had no problem at all seeing them - I told my normal vets but they did not seem all that bothered (or even interested ) although that may be bacause he was already having acupuncture. He does have bony spurs in his back but just gets general needles along his back and this time when his neck seemed to be bothering him too he had extra needles in his neck. I do remember years ago taking my old dog to see a homeopathic vets for which I needed a referral - my normal vets at the time were not at all keen and told me I was wasting my time and money - I pointed out that it was my time and money and I could waste it if I wanted to and I got my referral letter Hopefully you will soon get sorted.
  17. We had a very imaginiative family once come to flyball with a non-retrieving Jack Russell. They started with a hollow rubber ball which they put food in and they rewarded him with some of the food when he bought the ball to them. When he had got the hang of this they carefully peeled a tennis ball and put the skin over the hard rubber ball and from then they were able to move onto proper tennis balls I did manage to get Gnasher to retrieve with clicker training so hopefully slowly but surely you will get there. She is very pretty

After this weeks vet visit where the vet suspects my lad also has neck pain we are withdrawing as I really don't want to do anything which may aggravate this.
  19. Ok - I will sign up too. Gnasher (collie/terrier cross) and Lady (whippety/something cross) Lady is very keen on clicker training and tend to pick new things up quite easily. Gnasher is still grasping the whole concept of clicker training and tends to be quite cautious about it but we are getting there slowly!
  20.  I was dumb in Coventry but I know Slipping Halo so asked her what on earth it all meant  You have the dog walking on your left and then get it to do a twist away from you - whilst the dog is turning you do an about turn so your right is nearest the dog and you can then pick up the dog and do heelwork on the right
