  1. Thanks very much for the messages and advice, I've emailed all my details to the Oldies Club address and it looks like I'll be doing a transport run soon, so i'm looking forward to that - it's actually making me feel quite warm and fuzzy inside to know I'll be doing something worthwhile (is that normal?!?)
  2. Hi all, thanks for the messages - it's nice to feel welcome. I've been having a look around and posting a couple of messages, but it's all a bit big and scary in the big wide forum! so I thought I'd come back in here and ask for a bit of advice, before I do anything too stupid. I'm completely new to all of this but I really want to get involved with volunteering, I can't foster at the moment, but I'd like to do transport and home-checking. I just thought, is it ok for me to just start posting on the transport/homechecking areas to offer to help with anything in my area, or do I somehow have to be approved to do this first? Sorry if this info is covered somewhere else on the forums - I have been looking around, but haven't managed to find the answer to this. I'm hoping to get stuck in with making myself useful, but I don't want to do anything wrong, so any advice would be helpful... Thanks very much.
  3. Hi, the first thing to do is take a backup of all your important files - this won't help fix the problem, but if this is a warning that your laptop if about to break down then this will be something you'll be very pleased you did! But hopefully this isn't that serious. If you are just talking about a particular window on the screen, i.e. when you have a web page or file open, rather than the entire screen, it sounds like it's just that your computer is slowing down for some reason - are you getting any other problems with it? Have you installed any new software recently? This could affect the performance of your laptop. It would probably be a good idea to do the standard things of running a virus check and a spyware check to make sure there aren't any issues there. You may also want to try defragmenting your hard drive incase this is affecting the performance of your laptop. But most importantly make sure you have a back up of your files - just incase this is something more serious.
  4. Brilliant, thanks, that would be great. Just hope some things come up in our area soon!
  5. Hi, wow, I thought I'd be the only person on here at this time of night! I'm based near Gravesend, but I do a long commute to get to work so am quite experienced at the whole driving thing! So I'm hoping to be able to offer to do transport and home-checking all around Kent.
  6. Hello All, Very happy to get accepted onto the forum! My name is Bryony and I'm really hoping to get involved in some volunteering for the Oldies Club. I'm a computer technician but am hoping to start a new career in animal rescue soon so really welcome the chance to get some volunteering experience while helping a really worthwhile cause. Here's a bit about me - I'm 25, Female (in case you can't guess that from the name!) and based in Kent. Unfortunately I don't have any pets at the moment - I work full time and also my current landlord doesn't allow pets, so it's not really practical at the moment! I used to have a black Labrador who was lovely, and have also always had dogs in my family who have unfortunately all since passed away. I really miss being around animals and am really passionate about animal welfare, so really want to do whatever I can. I don't have any experience of doing home checking so I'm hoping someone might take me under their wing and show me the ropes, so I can learn to do it on my own. I'm generally good at dealing with people, so, with some practice, I think I'd be really good at it. Anyway, I think that's probably enough of an introduction, I hope to get to know you all on the forums and maybe meet some of you in person in the future. I look forward to chatting to you all and getting involved with the Oldies Club!
