  1. Evening. *RANT ALERT* I am absolutely livid The roofer who has not yet been back to finish the problems with the flat roof over the bay has sent me a bill for the work. The quote was £600 for repairs to the roof and redoing the bay roof, plus another £30 for some lead to go round the front of the bay. I've paid him £500 but there are problems to sort out with the bay roof which he said he was going to come back to fix and hasn't done. He's sent me a bill for £670 all in. He has made a right c*** up of the bay roof and it needs to be re-done for all sorts of reasons (not just because it looks horrible). I've left him a voicemail and text to tell him in no uncertain terms what I think and that if he wants his money then he needs to come back and redo the bay. Given the type of person he is I fully expect to get a call/text giving me an obnoxious/argumentative response. I hate conflict so normally I try to be as diplomatic as possible, even though he has tried my patience at times. This time he's just taking the p*ss so I allowed myself a knee jerk reaction (jerk being the operative word). No doubt when I've calmed down and/or had an argument with him I'll regret it but sometimes you just get pushed too far Not helped by the fact that work is really pushing my limits at the moment, to the point that I can see myself looking for another job in the not too distant (that's if I'm not pushed first) So all in all it's pretty sh*t here at the moment
  2. Forgot to say, you can click on this link and I believe it automatically takes 10% off I think it only works for new customers, ie with a new email ;)
  3. Moaning Those poor dogs Marion If anybody shops at Laura Ashley, they've got a sale on at the moment - 30% off all Home plus 10% extra and if you enter a voucher code at checkout you will get an extra 10% off
  4. Moaning The doctor who I saw this time was annoyed at the first one because he didn't think it was anything to worry about. I have to have a couple more blood tests and I have to have the U&E and LFTs done again in six months. Thanks for asking
  5. Moaning suzeanna I've got an appointment with the doc on Tuesday to get the results of further blood tests.
  6. Took the dogs out for a nice sunny walk with our friends Rita and Poppy. Then dug up a cherry from the front garden which I'm taking down to Rita later for the church garden.
  7. Moaning Jazz I hope you are okay Had a closer look at the bay roof yesterday - he's made an even worse job of it than I thought. He has also raised the level of the bay so that the guttering now bends up at an angle and I'm not even sure it's going to be watertight cos where the bend is is right on a joint, so will see at the weekend whether his frankenstein job has worked. I've paid him for the roof but I'm not happy giving him the rest of the money because I'm now going to have to have somebody else come in and strip the bay and redo it. You would have thought a professional roofer would do a decent job and have a bit of pride in his work On a more positive note, I need a new garage side door (not the main one). My skip-diving next door neighbour has nabbed a good solid wooden door from a skip up the road (he did ask the builders), so all it cost me was a chicken from Costco Need a new window as well, so need to find a local joiner.
  8. Hope everything's okay griff Forgot to say that when I was in the doctors on Monday she was waffling and because she had an accent I couldn't really tell what she was saying, so I had to ask her several times to explain what she meant. Then she started speaking to me like I was stupid and made me repeat back what she said. I almost said something but I decided to be polite Dogs have been to the vet for their boosters. As usual, they kept me waiting for half an hour and then I got a woman who again insisted on speaking to me as if I was stupid. Maybe it's a vibe I give off She thinks Taffy has got a problem with his spine which is just old age so isn't causing him pain, but it is why he has problems getting up on the sofa/bed sometimes. Beau has a bit of arthritis in his hips and she wanted to give me long term painkillers but I don't think he's in much pain and I didn't want to put him on any medication long term without trying natural methods first, so I'll get him started on the glucosamine/chondroitin. She was that was "perfect". Well if it was perfect why didn't she suggest it in the first place instead of painkillers?! Then tried to sell me some no doubt overpriced stuff but I declined. The lump on Timmy's tummy is a tumour but nothing nasty. It's only attached to his skin and she did recommend having it removed and tested but he's had it for well over a year so I said as it wasn't causing him any problems I'd leave it. I asked her to do another blood test to check his white cell count again cos he's not had it done for a while. She commented on the fact that he's lost muscle mass around his head. I told her to check his notes because the vet I saw last year said exactly the same thing and when he was poorly earlier this year they did all sorts of tests including ones which may have caused it. Then went to the opticians to pick up one pair of my glasses - the other pair has been delayed for some reason so I have to go back again next week for them. Hell of a difference between these and my old ones and it's nice to be able to see clearly again for pooter/reading. Went to Costco after that and then back home so just chilling out now. Roofer did the bay roof again on Monday but it still looks a mess so he was supposed to come back this morning to sort it, but he hasnt TBH I'm amazed that he could look at it and think it looks okay but I'm at the point now where I'm just going to tell him to get it to look the best he can and then I'm going to have it done when I have the roof replaced (not by him).
  9. Been to have blood taken so they can re-do the tests. Now watching some Olympics (for a change).
  10. Afternoon. You've heard of angry birds, well I've got angry dogs They've all just had an outdoor shower and are not very happy that I am making them stay outside until they dry off a bit. They are standing at the patio doors giving me daggers
  11. I've got to go back for more blood tests. As well as having low vitamin D, my liver test showed that my ALT level is high which could be liver damage/disease (no obvious cause). Re the hormone test, my LH levels are low, which could mean ovarian failure or could be the menopause. It's unusual because normally the LH and FSH would both be low, so I need further investigation. I am feeling even more bluddy wibbly now. On another note, I just bumped into my dad as he was walking past my house as I was leaving. I haven't seen him in 11 years so was quite a shock and a tad awkward!
  12. Moaning suzannea I am so sorry for your loss I've not been around much cos I have been immersing myself in the Olympics, watching all day and into the early hours. Brits are doing fantastically well. Loving the BBC's red button channels as well (in case anyone doesn't know, you don't need to press the red button to reach them - they are channels 600 to 608 on Freeview), which means I can watch the events that I want all the way through. Watched Murray's match last night - it was absolutely brutal. Got a whole week off now to watch it as well Roofer is coming back today to finish off the bits and pieces. The upstairs bay which he is recovering looks dreadful at the moment but there is apparently another layer to go on. Other bits and pieces he's made a mess off so he'd better do a good job. I am probably going to have to have the whole roof replaced in the not too distant future. Thanks for the advice - will let you know what the doc says.
  13. Moaning I've been immersing myself in the Olympics and now have a week off to watch it all I had a letter through from the doctors asking me to make an appointment following some tests I had last week. I had a smear and some blood tests but when I spoke to them the other day they said the bloods were okay, so must be the smear. I hope it's nothing nasty cos it was the first smear I'd had for years (own fault). Wibbling a bit.
  14. I hope Bailey is back home soon. Maybe they want to adopt his new mate as well? lol Well done Jayne I am not happy with the roofer. He's been and done some work over the past couple of days. Unfortunately he's made a ruddy mess of it. Where he's re-felted the bay it looks a state - the felt is lumpy and torn in one corner. The roof tile on the side which is sticking up hasn't been touched and where he has fixed the front of the roof it looks a right state where he's mortared it and some of the ridge tiles are now out of kilter. I've sent him a text to see if he can come back on Friday when I'm here. I think there may be a bit more work than he thought there would be, but why didn't he just tell me that? I don't mind paying a bit more if he has to spend more time doing a better job - I told him that in my text. Hope he doesn't get arsy with me because I'm really not in the mood. I wouldn't mind but he came highly recommended by my next door neighbour as he re-roofed his house a few years ago and has just done some work at his son's house too. I am probably going to have the whole thing re-roofed if I get a decent bonus this year, but I guarantee I won't be getting him to do it Shot himself in the foot there.
  15. Evening. Pretty bleugh at work at the moment. Friday is going to be particularly horrendous but at least I have a week off next week. That's if I don't get calls about a contract I'm working on I just wish people would take notice of what I say sometimes. It seems to go in one ear and out the other. If they consult me as a subject matter expert and then ignore what I have to say, then they have no right to moan afterwards when I'm proved right. Happened again today. Hey ho, I reserve the right to say "I told you so".
  16. Went to my Sainsburys local earlier. Parked next to a VW 4x4 (older model). Bloke was sitting in the car. I got out and passed woman going to get in the passenger side, smiled at her and she smiled back. Walked in the shop to see a staff member yelling and chasing after said woman, but the car had pulled out. Turned out she had just shoved all the steak they had up her jumper and walked out Never would have thought to look at them - they just looked like a nice middle aged couple in their sixties.
  17. Moaning I'm not quite Olympic'd out, but knackered after setting the alarm to watch the swimming at 2.45 am. At least I'm working from home today. Builder said he will be here after 8 no matter what the weather. We'll see.
  18. Moaning I bought some glasses recently. When they arrived the right lens was slightly wrong, so had to go back to be re-tested today and they have sent my glasses away again to replace the lenses. One pair are going to be changed to single vision lenses as I really can't get on with the varifocals. One pair I've kept as varis as they are good for distance. Next door neighbour Dave fixed the roof for me yesterday and said the tile looks like it was already broken and had been cemented in. He replaced it but said that it had new battens and covering under that section, so the roofer had actually done some work. He's texted me to say that he is definitely coming today. Next door neighbour has been onto him as well (he was the one who recommended him) so fingers crossed.
  19. I'm here griff Moaning Roof still not done and in fact he did come briefly last Thursday but managed to break a roof tile, remove the mesh covering the down pipe off the bay and loosen the joint on the guttering so it's leaking
  20. Evening. Roofer was supposed to be fixing the roof yesterday and today, but it rained so he's done nowt. I texted him last night to see whether he'd been and if he was coming today. He didn't bother getting back to me. I did have a reply to this morning's text though to say he'll come on Monday when the weather forecast says it'll be dry. Hope he doesn't mess me around or he'll be out on his ear.
  21. You don't want to come across to keen Jayne - it may put him off. Wait for him to contact you and if he doesn't then it's his loss
  22. Moaning I can see that some people need a hug
  23. Moaning Closed out a couple of projects recently and got rewarded with a pay rise, which is nice. It had to be signed off by our chief executive as well, good to be appreciated. Unfortunately the rest of the day went to hell in a handbasket but hey ho, what can you do? Roasting here - couldn't sleep properly.
  24. Moaning Had a lovely sleep last night griff I hope you can at least get back to being friends but hopefully more
