  1. I would have thought if this was the case then they might have sent a standard email to all who complained and said that they had pulled it. Fingers crossed it will be pulled.
  2. Exactly my thoughts Ange. I posted it here as I thought most people seemed to want regulation.
  3. Help all racing greyhounds and sign the petition today! The RSPCA is calling for a better life for all racing greyhounds. Each year at least 10,000 greyhounds are retired from racing. The fate of many greyhounds is unknown and huge numbers ‘disappear’. The greyhound racing industry must reveal the true extent of the problem. Racing greyhounds may face a number of welfare problems during their lives including: Over breeding of greyhounds leading to thousands of unwanted dogs Injury caused by inappropriate track surfaces and design Being abandoned and killed when they don’t make the grade because they are unsuitable for racing Sign the petition now! Ask the Government to introduce regulation to protect the welfare of all racing greyhounds throughout their lives. http://www.greyhoundpetition.org/

  15. Greyhound Forum Statement Animal welfare charities call for immediate enquiry following Greyhound slaughter. Several of the UK’s largest animal welfare charities and members of the Greyhound Forum are calling for immediate action from the government and the greyhound racing industry following the reports of the activities of David Smith, reported to have killed an estimated 10,000 ex-racing greyhounds. The fate of racing greyhounds when they come to the end of their racing career has long been of concern to the Greyhound Forum, which comprises many of the biggest animal charities in the UK and Ireland. The group is calling for urgent action to regulate the greyhound racing industry and ensure that all greyhound racecourses work with welfare bodies to find homes for ex-racing greyhounds, to avoid greyhounds suffering the fate as reported this week. Clarissa Baldwin, Chair of the Greyhound Forum, said: “If the reports of the slaughter of thousands of greyhounds are true, the situation is simply intolerable. We have been calling for regulation of the industry for a long time, and after reports like this emerge, it would be unforgivable if the sport’s governing bodies do not sit up and take notice. There have been past instances of horrific abuse of ex-racing greyhounds, which have resulted in prosecution, so there is no excuse for sitting back and ignoring this. The fate of greyhounds after their racing career is over should be at the heart of an enquiry.†The Greyhound Forum hopes that an official enquiry will be held as soon as possible, and will be monitoring this closely. ENDS Notes to Editors This release is issued on behalf of several animal welfare organisations and members of the Greyhound Forum: Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, The Blue Cross, Dogs Trust, Greyhounds in Need, Greyhound Rescue west of England, RSPCA, Wood Green Animal Shelters. Spokespeople from the Greyhound Forum are available for interview. The Greyhound Forum Charter is available from Dogs Trust.
