  1. Oh Clare, I am sorry to hear about poor old Loki, what a pickle of a lad he is. He will be fine, wasn;t there someone on Dogpages who had a partbred Arab mare (Breeze????) that had a similar problem and was fine eventually. (Think hers turned out to be really complicated.) Loki will be fine, the big daft lummox, but hugs to you both and keep us updated.
  2. have a look here: Crabbet Park - History I used to own/breed Crabbet Arabs (along with Crabbet and Old English) one of the line is very very rare now and I have been trying for 20 years to get the line back) Blimey Lesley - that looks some horse!
  3. Today Cueva met Nick, an Enlightened Equitation Teacher. Cueva gave him the full repertoire of Airs above the Ground - she was half way to a capriole, her vertical take off is very impressive, this was soon followed by terre a terre and volte and some plain ornery bucking! So she was made to do small circles up and down the school and lateral moves, yielding her quarters on the circle and working on two tracks. She settled after about 10 minutes, but had the occasional relapse, but in general she was a good girl The thought of riding her again is not appealing given the nature of her Airs above the Ground, I am getting a SPanish saddle for her, I think I would come straight off an English one! So Cueva and I will have a lesson with Nick every month, and then have a workplan in between, did not realise how bad I was at lunging it will get better..
  4. Anne - I love hearing about all the horses at the stables where you work (not envious at all honest!). I can never get enough of Uniq and all the foals Very quick Cueva update - she was an absolute sweetie on Friday (rushed up to see her before I went away for the weekend). I told her if she wasn't going to be a good girl I was going to swap her for a Luso Boy - and she was a delight! I do love my Spanish mare she is an angel really (also the haylage has gone down to once a day as the grass is through with a vengence). Nott, I am ashamed to say was a baggage on Friday and very rude as I interrupted her down time with Bracken!
  5. Ummm Aahhhhh Well.......... I am afraid Cueva and I have NOT been having a good time recently, I seem to have joined the ranks of Clare and Bradders with horses showing their other side. She has been the boingy, bad mannered horse from hell, although she can do the most impressive levade in-hand (and it was a levade rather than a full up rear, Bless - but I have seen other Iberians use this as an evasion). As a result I had a long hard think and thankfully found an Enlightened Equitation trainer/teacher called Nick Dutton who is able to help me re-start Cueva. We are doing the whole lunge, long rein, work in hand thing along with some targeted clicker training. Then we will start the riding thing... Had it not been for my recent Portuguese experience where I found out I can ride properly and am not too bad, then I would probably have chucked in the towel and sold her. Nott of course is still as perfect as ever she is my calm tranquil oasis after the tumult of Cueva. Photos soonest - I am off to Barcelona in the morning. PS Cueva's new found spooky-dooky hyperness seemed to coincide with the increase in haylage, she has grown upwards and outwards and has matured.
