Hello!
I'm 18 now, and I've been a member of the YKC for 3 years now. I first joined because I needed to be a member to take part in various agility and flyball competitions. I think the camp is for children upto the age of 16, so I just missed out on it as I was busy for the first year.
I know a couple of people who have been to YKC camp and they seem to have had a brilliant time, trying out lots of new activities with their dogs like agility, obedience, handling, flyball and things like the good citizen test. The girl I know who has been for a couple of years now seems to make more friends everytime she goes - everyone has a universal interest when you go she said. I remember asking her if anyone was snobbish about what dogs they had, and she said definitely not there were mainly crossbreeds going to camp with their handlers. They seem to do everything there, wish I was under 16 again!
The girl who organises what is going to go on at camp, what groups people are in and what activities they try on each day used to teach Jet in a fun obedience class. She really put a lot of work into planning it and making it fun, she's a really nice person and all of the senior YKC members I have met have been lovely too.
They offer quite a few other opportunities too, they send out a magazine every few months and the membership is definitely value for money. Around February time they send you a free season ticket to Crufts which can be upwards of £40 to buy, whereas you only pay £10 membership (might be £12?)
It might be worth looking at For over 16s, they have an outwardbound course as well - I've never had the chance to go on that either though.
Hope this helps
Katie
