  1. I hope the card turns up soon Owl, have you checked the rubbish bin, assuming you have one?

My son rang earlier, his area is now in Tier 4, much to his disgust. A combination of that and the dreadful weather forecast of gales and heavy rain mean that's that, definitely won't be seeing him at all, except on a screen.  We are going to my daughter on Christmas Day afternoon/evening and they...um...might come over to us for a while on Boxing Day.  I know you aren't meant to but what the heck difference is it, two different days two different houses but the same people?

  2. Thanks for the support ladies, much appreciated.

I'm confused about these rules.  They keep saying it's advisory, so how can the Police have the right to fine people? Oh well, much as I like York I have no intention of going there, so not my problem.

The post is strange at the moment, my son sent cards for us from him and Julie and from the children last Thursday, one from the children came two days ago, no sign of the other one!

  3. Same here Owl, cloudy and drizzle.  I need to go to Aldi on Wednesday for a few things, then that's done.   My son was hoping to sneak up on Monday but as on the Calendar News they said that 5% of new cases in this area are the new variant thingy, I wouldn't mind betting we are all Tier 4 by Christmas Eve.

I made a complete idiot of myself earlier, went to pick up the click and collect order from Tesco, previously they've put the stuff straight in the boot for me. Today when I asked a bloke I haven't seen before said they can't do that with loose groceries in case they damage them.  I tried to explain about my back and ended up bursting into tears! This from a person who never cries in front of other people and certainly not strangers.  In 30 odd years I think Philip might have seen me cry half a dozen times.  You've never seen a man move so fast, three of them loaded the boot and I dripped my way back home. I think things suddenly hit me, but I hope I don't run across them again, far too embarrassing.

  4. Very sad indeed for her Owl.  Was Tiga her only dog or does she have others for some consolation?

There's a couple up the road, he's disabled and always in a chair, don't think she works.  They've got a yorkie and a midsized mutt, and apparently now a new golden retriever pup, Philip says it's very sweet.  Dread to think how much it cost them though.

I was feeling more alive this morning, so I've washed the bathroom floor and vacuumed the bedrooms.  I am now officially knackered.  Must learn to do things a bit at a time, not all at once. Made my back hurt again, just hope nothing damaged.

  5. Good morning!

Eve's been quiet since picking up Richard, hope all is well with him.  See they have a little snow forecast for Scotland over Christmas but rain everywhere else as per usual.

Philip is taking a few things to the tip this morning then I want to scoot into Aldi, hopefully it won't be too busy.  Philip had a covid test the other evening since the bay they put me in at the hospital turned out to have a Covid positive person in it, it's come back negative and I have no symptoms so all clear here so far.  My son is coming up on Monday after xmas regardless of the fact we are tier 3 and he's tier 2, just hope none of the neighbours shop us but I don't think they will.

  6. Sensible girl, Wispa!  We used to have cats, Eve although Philip is allergic to them.  When we had the dobes, poms and papillons they all got on ok with the cats, but when we got our GSD he loathed them and we couldn't trust him with them at all.  Dylan was a dedicated chaser, so that was a no no.  Candy has a little black and white cat friend up the road and they always greet each other happily, I think she'd like a pal.  Back in the day I had a Siamese and I adore them but their prices have shot up and it wouldn't be fair on Philip anyway to potentially leave him with a couple of pets.

  7. Will Richard's ankle be good as new now Eve, or will it always have a weakness?  Hope it's the former, then you can have some decent walks together.

Good idea to have at least one lazy day blackmagic, to recharge your batteries.

I got some things done this morning, nothing earth shattering just a machine load of laundry, put up a last piece of decoration over the sitting room door and vacuumed the hall kitchen/diner and sitting room and it left me shattered by 11.30.  On a plus side, taking the ibuprofen I'm not meant to take has quietened the ache in my back down.  Went to bed after Philip had his lunch then got up and washed my hair.  Whew, what an exciting life I lead!

Jazz, Philip says every time he walks Candy there is a little cat outside a house down the road, always outside unless the owners are in.  It's huddled up by the door no matter the weather, looking really miserable.  I said wander up and see how it reacts to Candy and maybe we could say if you think so little of your cat you don't even get it access to inside when you aren't there, would you like to rehome it? Candy loves cats.

  8. Hope you get your van sorted quickly Owl.  A good thing really it happened at home, so you weren't stranded anywhere without a decent tyre.

I'm keeping an eye on posts  at the moment even if I havent been posting..  The steroids they've given me have made me a bit dizzy and my hands are shaky and I can't concentrate very well.   Can't remember what I said about my sojourn in hospital, but the upshot was no op, too dangerous.  One go of radiation, if that doesn't work can't do it again and I had that on Monday.  He showed me the screen of my back, and the offending area where the bone is pushing down towards the nerves.  If the radiation and steroids don't do the trick, bottom line is the spinal cord will be dead from that place down.  Cheery thought.  I said how will I know if it's worked and he said you certainly will if it hasn't.  Okkkaaayy. I'm due a phone appointment from the oncologist on Friday at 1, so I'll ask him then if he knows how successful it was likely to have been and if it wasn't any sort of time scale.

At the moment I think I'm blanking it and trying to pretend it isn't really happening, I can't imagine spending the rest of my life in a wheelchair.  If I don't believe it, it won't happen.

In case I do vanish suddenly, I hope everyone has a healthy Christmas, with at least some family and friends around them for the day and no accidents with dogs eating what they shouldn't.

  9. I hope you get the tree sorted..is it a large one? I have a small one, and a bigger silver one but not fibre optic.

Another thing that doesn't help the spread of Covid in hospital: schools are keeping their windows open, homes are advised to especially if visitors coming over Christmas.  Hospitals are heated to boiling levels and the windows..are shut.  EMU has people coming in all the time, day and night as I found. They did open two windows at the end of the bay, the woman nearest to them complained she was cold and they shut them again! I'd have pointed out fresh air is essential and if she wanted to catch Covid she'd be wishing she stayed cold.  Actually  I wonder if she was the one who tested positive, as one minute she was too hot, then too cold.  Also...all the nurses wore masks. None of the doctors did. All the nurses washed their hands thoroughly even if they hadn't touched you directly.  None of the doctors did.

  10. I agree with the disorganisation, it's not just between different hospitals either, but departments in the same ones.  I asked whether an ambulance was needed and he said no, just an ordinary car but your husband can't come in the hospital.  As I'll be there all afternoon, he'll just drop me off and come back when needed.  Traffic shouldn't be too bad going,  worse coming home I imagine as work will be letting out.

  11. Well, it's been a strange day but here I am back home again!  I got back to the department yesterday afternoon after an urgent summons to be told I should have come by ambulance..great, no one sent it! Then taken back to the bay I'd been in earlier to see a big notice Closed Bay.  Why? Because someone in there when I was had tested positive for Covid.  Oh..great. We'll move you asap but you were in contact all night. Got to a different bay to be told total bedrest, even bedpans.  That went well, they had to change the whole bed! Bed pans are not my favourite thing.   Leap forward a few hours, Northern General phoned and said an operation would be too dangerous, so no go.  Then they tried to get in touch with Weston Park.  Meanwhile a very nice consultant appeared, told me I could have a commode, rather than a bedpan  He must have heard of the disaster! Some while later, a phone call from an oncologist at Weston.  No you don't need to stay in bed, in fact you can go home and come here on Monday at 2 for a planning scan, then radiotherapy at 4 which might take an hour.  Gulp.  If any odd symptoms arise tomorrow right their emergency number and get in asap.  Now you know as  much as I do.  I'll have to hope I dodged the Covid and that one session of rads will prove to be enough! Thanks very much for all the good wishes, they must have worked.

  12. Hi Everybody , Philip here again! Sue came home this morning after her scan but about four this afternoon had a  call back from the EMU calling her back in.  They are concerned that the growth is dangerously close to the spinal cord. So with a bag packed she has gone back in. She will be starting steroid treatment and then it will either be Radiotherapy at Weston Park or they are talking about a possible operation at Northern General! She has aske me to keep you all updated as to how things go. I had a phone call from here as I got back in and they have said she will be in for all of tomorrow.  I was somewhat concerned though that after I had said goodbye and she gave her name to the nurse  I heard " You were meant to be brought in by ambulance, you are not meant to be mobile!"  She said, in a very controlled voice I thought " Nobody told me that, I was told to get here as quickly as possible"

Anyway, that's how things are at the moment. Thankfully she is better prepared this time and has clean underwear, her Fire tablet and a charger for that and her phone.

When I hear anything I will update you all.

  13. Hi everybody, this is Suzeanna's OH here. I know you all have heard about me! Sue has asked me to post here to let you all know what has happened this evening. She received a call from her Oncologist at about 19.15 this evening. He gave her the results of her scan that she had on Monday. There has been a further spread in her spine to the C2/3 vertebrae and the spinal cord is at risk of being compromised.

He asked her to go to the EMU at the Chesterfield Royal this evening to be at the hospital for when they can fit her in for an emergency MRI scan.

I had to leave her there  because of the Covid regulations, but to be honest there is no telling when she will have the scan.   The results of this scan will determine her treatment, probably more Radiotherapy at Weston Park.

She is already laying down the law with the staff at the hospital, she has told them once she has had the scan she is going home! They tried to tell her it would depend on what was going to happen in terms of treatment..in no uncertain terms she said it will be RT at Weston Park and she would be going home until she heard when that was going to be!

Hopefully next post will be from the lady herself.

  14. I got to the department ok yesterday, as a helpful young man who hovers around the reception desk asking if anyone needs help grabbed a wheelchair and pushed me there.  Talk about swallowing your pride, nearly choked me! The scan was rather uncomfortable as because they were scanning my neck as well as chest and abdomen I had my head raised on a support, which meant when I had to put my arms over and behind my head it really pulled on my shoulders.  It took longer as well, the contrast was running for a lot longer than I've had before and I felt really ill most of this morning with head and stomach ache but it seems to have gone off now thank goodness.  Got to wait for the results now, he's ringing on the 18th.

I've noticed all my garden birds, which had vanished, have reappeared.  I suppose that means I'll have to fork out for sunflower seeds again and just hope the rats which used to enjoy them too have moved on for the winter.

  15. Beautiful is definitely not the word for the weather here! Mizzly rain, foggy and cold.  We popped over to see my daughter for an hour, I know we are tier 3 but she's on her own at the moment so we are a bubble! She'd got Candy a little xmas present, a set of red and white leg warmers! Candy hates even having a raincoat on and she definitely wasn't having them! One went on after a lot of struggles then we gave up as the poor dog was getting stressed.  The people next door to her have a couple of cockers and one is smaller and less nervous than Candy, so she's going to offer them over the fence.

  16. Glad your ears are sorted now Eve, and good luck with the move blackmagic.

Owl, this weather doesn't help anyone feel better, that wind goes right through you.  Hope you have plenty of soup and can keep warm.

I went to the hospital today to have a blood test, needed before my CT scan on Monday.  My legs and feet suddenly got really painful and I did something I haven't done for years, had a panic attack and froze to the spot, convinced if I tried to walk I'd fall over.  I felt such a fool, hanging onto the wall. It took me about fifteen minutes to walk from reception to the bloods department! I'm not looking forward to Monday, the CT scan department is about as far away from reception, I'm just going to have to try to convince myself I can do it and hope I'm right.

  17. Is your problem definitely earwax, Eve? Only I knew someone who had Menieres? disease and that made them dizzy and off balance.

At least you'll have everything sorted by Christmas, blackmagic.  Hope you don't get the snow they are talking about for Scotland, or is that just the Highlands and not the city?

  18. Good morning! Sneaking on quickly before Philip takes over the comp for the day..his unfavourite shift, 9.30 until 6 with lunch at 3, which is mad in my opinion.

Hope you are feeling a bit brighter Jazz, and how is your chest today Owl? Have they said how quickly your test will get to you?

Weather isn't meant to be up to much today, so I'll emulate blackmagic and get my paint and brushes out, the kitchen door is in need of a spruce up, ditto the door frame from the kitchen to the hall where various dogs have scratched off the paint.

  19. Make sure you do Owl, Philip earlier had the news that the mother of one of his friends has lost her life to Covid, don't take any risks or assume it's "just a cold or flu". Thinking about it..don't wait until the morning, ring them now.
