  1. Congratulations for Jack and Teddy Bear!
  2. If we are destined to have certain dogs, then someone up there is having a laugh and sending me all the nutcases... Vera
  3. I can see threads for agility and flyball brags, but none for Obedience Brags... So here we go and I'll make a start... Jesse, my American Cocker Spaniel, won out of Pre-Beginners yesterday and came 5th in Beginners! It was only his third show and I am well proud! Anyone else done well in obedience lately?
  4. All our dogs love to be touched and cuddled, but I feel that if I hug them, they just tolerate it. They don't dislike it, but they don't love it either! Vera
  5. Accolade Leathercraft do some fab collars and will also make to measure!
  6. I work full-time leaving the house at 8.30 am and coming home at 6.30 pm. My husband however doesn't leave until 3.30 pm (coming home at 11 pm). So there is no problem for us. We used to both work full-time during the day. I can't see a problem with that as long as the dogs are happy with it and someone can pop in to let them out for toilet some time during the day. The two lurchers and our acs are walked in the morning before I go to work, our pyrenees is either walked by my husband (though that is slipping down to twice or three times a week max these days... ) or by myself when I come home from work. Our dogs also all go to training classes (except for Troy), two on Tuesday (Jesse and Flash), one on Thursday (Jesse) and one on Sunday morning (Dylan). So they are all mentally kept busy that way too. At week-ends we sometimes go to obedience competitions too (once a month or so). Vera

  8. We have two pedigrees (pyrenees and American cocker) and two crossbreeds (saluki lurchers). I never really think about it. I love them all equally and I would just look at the individual dogs, rather than worry whether they are pedigree or not. Vera
  9. You might just want to go round and ask whether they are having stuff dropped in their garden too... This means you don't accuse them, but you can still see their reaction. Vera
  10. Sorry, you are a bit far for me... , but I bet you would love the classes. We have two rotties in our class and they both do so well! Vera
  11. The apdt do follow up complaints! It is so disheartening hearing stories like these, but then finding out that they have not been reported. If the apdt office doesn't know about it, they can't do anything... and those rogue trainers just continue doing what they do and continue damaging the apdt's reputation in the process. Vera (apdt member 00791 - not using any rough and hands-on methods at all!)
  12. I hope you have reported that APDT trainer!!! The APDT needs to know as trainers like that give all of us apdt trainers a bad reputation! Vera
  13. Yes, we have got two axolotls: Xylo and Xena. They are about 7 years old. Unfortunately Xylo is not well... he has changed colour from wild to albino and is not eating that well anymore. He is due to go to the vet (an exotics specialist) on Saturday. A picture from when Xylo was still wild coloured.
  14. Troy gets identified as a sheep or a polar bear. But our previous pyrenees went one better... I walked him one day and a car stopped next to me... "What is that?" a voice went. "A dog" I went... and the guy was totally amazed... Vera
  15. A few days after we got Dylan six year ago, we walked him to the park. On the way, we met a lady with a basket of hot cross buns. She asked whether we wanted one... by which time Dylan had already helped himself... Vera
  16. Dylan and Flash, our saluki lurchers, generally gets mistaken for a greyhound or a whippet. Very occasionally Flash is recognised as a saluki. Troy, our Pyrenean mountain dog, is usually mistaken for a newfoundland ("I never knew they come in white..." ) or a St. Bernard. And one or two thought he was a particularly big Golden Retriever... - very big indeed. Occasionally kids think he is a sheep or a polar bear... Jesse, our American cocker spaniel... most see that he is some sort of spaniel, but he has too much hair. We were once asked whether he was a clumber... His breed gets recognised very rarely. Vera
  17. Two more of Jesse all dolled up
  18. And Troy? And last but not least, little Jesse And all together nicely
  19. Flash is the model in our family Dylan doesn't make a bad model either
  20. Fab pics. So you were the people that "moved in" right after us... I haven't even got all the pictures sorted yet as I took over 200 ...
  21. My MIL would be interested in a bichon as well... so am wondering whether this one might be suitable for her. Will contact Hannah tomorrow. Vera
  22. Just because a dog comes from a litter of pure labs doesn't mean that he is... a litter can have two dads and it is entirely possible that a different dog mated before or after the actual planned sire without the owner's knowledge. Without DNA test, I would not trust the claims. Vera
  23. Poor thing... at least he is feeling so much more comfortable now. Dogs with long coats like Afghans or my American Cocker Spaniel are beautiful, but they get into such a mess if the owners don't keep on top with the grooming! I have seen pictures of ACS like this Afghan was... it's a disgrace and hopefully they will find the owner to prosecute! Surely someone must know who they are as someone must have seen this dog somewhere... Vera
  24. We have two pedigrees and two crossbreeds/mongrels (lurchers)... I don't understand how anyone could make a difference between them! They are all beautiful in their own right, pedigree or not! Stupid woman. Vera
