  1. Suzeanna they usually send a substitute providing you haven't put a tick beside the item to show a substitute isn't required. Mind you sometimes what they think constitutes a suitable substitute can leave you shaking your head! Another nice day here. It was nice yesterday but we also had that rather keen wind and we found it necessary to wear our fleeces when we went for a walk. We are back on our diet and I've lost 3lbs of the 12 I gained.
  2. Morning all. Going to be another glorious day here by the look of things. So far I've been able to get a weekly grocery delivery from Sainsbury's or Tesco. You have to stalk their sites as they only release a few slots at a time. There might be none but you check again a few minutes later and hey presto! I don't mind the continual checking, I've got nothing better to do! We can also get a delivery from the little MiniMart, the Co-op and Booths supermarket in town are doing a click & collect so you order & pay online and are given a time to go and pick it up without having to go into the shop. A local wholesale food company has started up another click & collect service from their warehouse a few miles out of town. You get a pickup time, then reverse up to a loading bay and they fill your boot with your grocieries. The freshness & quality of the fruit and veg is superb I've been told. And on top of all that the town has a volunteer Covid-19 taskforce. A number of "wardens" look after 3 or 4 streets each. You can ring, text or email them to let them know you need help for things like shopping, prescription pick-up or even moral support and they will arrange it all with their team of volunteers.
  3. Morning. It's going to be a lovely day again weatherwise.
  4. That's really nice of your neighbour Owl. Our nutty neighbour came out past our garden on her way to the little Spa shop. Remember how she came to the door to say how sorry she was about us losing Tye, which was very nice of her but remember I said she probably won't speak next time we see her? Well she totally blanked Ruby and me as we were sitting out but stopped to talk to the neighbour at the other side of us. She asked her if she wanted anything at the shop but didn't ask us. She really is a strange one.
  5. Sitting here in the hospital car park. We left early so we could call into the storage unit, which we pass on the way here, and get our garden chairs out. Now we can sit out and enjoy the weather and the peace and quiet on our street now there are no tourists. This hospital is near the sea so its nice sitting here listening to the seabirds.
  6. Owl that's dreadful! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜ฑ I hope the people who were hurt make a full recovery and the police get the culprits.
  7. Morning. It's a lovely day here. The surgeon who did the surgery doesn't use drains following surgery as he feels they introduce infection. It used to be standard procedure. I guess if you get a build up like you did Sue they have no choice but to introduce them. Ruby's found the fluid slopping away and moving around quite unsettling but she was told this would happen. If the area starts to harden then she'd need to be seen pronto but so far, so good ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿคž๐Ÿคž Karen there's only one test result outstanding now. The others showed they removed all the cancer and the lymph is clear. The test outstanding is maybe the most important as it will show if there is a chance the cancer will recur. It's being analysed in California, at the only facility in the world able to conduct such analysis. If the numbers are low its very unlikely it will recur but if they are high then Ruby will need a course of chemo. Whatever the result of that she has to go on estrogen blockers for anything between 5 & 10 years. The owner of a 2nd home, close to my friend's home, has turned up for the 2nd time in a week ๐Ÿคฌ๐Ÿคฌ๐Ÿคฌ๐Ÿคฌ She and others have reported him to the police.
  8. That was good of Tesco Blackmagic. Too many businesses are faceless these days and just trot out the old "rules is rules" as standard. I change my insurance almost every year to save money. Some of the renewal quotes have been eyewatering. When I call them to tell them I am cancelling they nearly always ask if I will let them see if they can come up with a lower quote. When they do I reply that if they had quoted that one in the first place I might have stayed with them. It's a blooming minefield. I don't suppose they will be wanting to give us any money back or reduce our next premium owing to the fact that our cars are as much in lockdown as we are??? Ruby's breast care nurse rang her today and they are bringing her Monday appointment forward to Thursday. The surgeon will check her surgery scar and the amount of fluid still left where her boob was. The nurse will also fit her for her permanent prosthesis as she's just had a temporary one up until now.
  9. We use Arla B.O.B, it's skimmed milk but tastes & looks like semi-skimmed. It freezes really well and once de-frosted is just as good as it was before. I'd rather do without than have UHT long life milk. Yak ๐Ÿคข I love a latte made with Soya milk but don't like soya in tea ๐Ÿค”
  10. Griff that's awful. Poor woman. There are special arrangements made for abused women during lockdown. I didn't take in the details as I don't know anyone it would apply too but the info will be out there. If you can do anything for her don't let her wait until it becomes too late. It's a lovely looking day but bloomin cold. I woke up around 5.00am shivering. I toughed it out until the heating came on at 6.30 and then got up. I had a session on the cross trainer to warm me up. Highlight of my day - Sainsbury's are delivering between 10 and 11. Hurrah! I managed to book another delivery for Saturday. Next Monday is Ruby's hospital appointment. The consultant wants to see her in person so he can check her wound and the amount of fluid behind it. We'll see if goes ahead or not! Owl its supposed to bring you luck when a bird poops on you. I wonder who thought that one up??? Probably someone trying to calm a hysterical person after a pigeon dumped a load. And on that note I shall disappear....
  11. I used to work with a lovely girl who misheard the lyrics to Poetry In Motion. I had to stop and listen one day when she was singing along to as I wasn't 100% sure I had heard right. I had. She was singing "Oh a tree in motion". Every time I hear the song now it makes me giggle. I'm not perfect though. I thought that Neil Diamond song Forever In Blue Jeans was The Reverend Blue Jeans for years until someone put me right. Oh and Prince Charming by Adam and The Ants was Prince Chow Mein.
  12. We had an even bigger, louder response last night. It was fab. I took my whistle out and every time I gave it a blast the neighbours cheered. Someone was banging a big drum, there were loads of pans & lids being banged together & lots of cheering and clapping ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜ Poor you Griff. Do they do burkhas in bright colours? We've got a crotched rainbow with coloured tails hanging from it in our window. A friend of Ruby's sent it to her.
  13. Another lovely day here. That will bring even more bloody numpty 2nd home owners here. Permanent residents are reporting them to the police in ever increasing numbers โ˜น Like the police don't have enough to do as it is, they don't need selfish, irresponsible idiots like this to chase up and chase off back to their permanent places of residence. eBay is a good source too for dog beds. I got George a really great, very thick, squishy waterproof bed with spare covers from there. It's still going strong as Tye was using it and it stood up to the stick he gave it - digging at it, jumping on it - with his 60lb weight behind it all.
  14. Weather is very pleasant here too. We cleared our garden last year to make it pretty much maintenance free so there's nothing to do out there. The best we can hope for is to meet one of the neighbours out and have a chat between the fences.
  15. Goodness me Owl, that's not good enough. The amount of people who just cannot follow the rules is staggering. I'm guessing most of them haven't even bothered finding out what they are. Nice day here weatherwise.
  16. It's amazing just how stupid some people are. Like the flat earthers! Everyone knows if the earth was really flat cats would have knocked everything off the sides.
  17. Oh Suzeanna I got an email from Tesco telling me about the changes to their opening hours. I never thought to mention it here. I am so sorry! I will post here if I get more emails about any changes in the future. We had heavy rain last night and its very overcast today. This would have been the start of the Easter influx of tourists. They are not missing anything with the weather anyway. It is lovely to have the place entirely to ourselves though not by the circumstances.
  18. Suzeanna that's fascinating, thanks for sharing. My grandmother took a Jewish lady and her child in after they managed to escaped the Nazis from somewhere in Europe. She was visited beforehand by govt. officials who told her that things could go badly for her if the Nazis invaded Britain and discovered she'd given aid to Jews. My grandmother replied "them buggers won't beat us". The lady and her child stayed for a few weeks until she discovered her husband had also escaped and was in Glasgow so she left to join him there. My grandmother also took child evacuees from London escaping the Blitz. She got a lovely certificate at the end of the war signed by the King as well as one signed from the Queen (later the Queen Mum) but she never displayed them. I'm sad to say they've since been lost in one of my house moves โ˜นโ˜น On the 50th anniversary of VE day I put up my grandmother's original bunting from the actual VE day celebrations and on the same house as it was still in the family then ๐Ÿ‘ Griff I agree with you by the way on the fines. There are some really irresponsible, selfish people about. We were out clapping last night. My home town really showed their appreciation big style again this week ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘
  19. Don't forget there is a repeat of the Clap For The Carers at 8pm tonight.
  20. My pals are technophobes so can't do home shopping themselves. Just had one bit of good news. We got the money refunded for our flights to Southampton from when Flybe collapsed. Just need the rest of the holiday costs sorted on the insurance now which is considerably more than those flights!
  21. Suzeanna that sounds fascinating about the SOE. Super brave men & women who served behind the lines, I have much admiration and respect for them ๐Ÿ‘โค I am waiting in eager anticipation to read Owl and Wispa recollections of their tracking ๐Ÿ˜ I just happened to check Sainsbury's site yesterday at the right time and got a delivery spot for Monday. I had a Tesco booked for Tuesday but as I have a delivery saver all paid for in advance with Sainsbury's I am going with them. My friends are going to take the Tesco slot so I shall order their stuff for them. The husband is in a vulnerable group and she is terrified of bringing Covid-19 home to him when she has to go shopping. I couldn't change the address as I'd started the order already for myself but she'll bring her car round to pick their groceries up from our garden which is a lot better than going to the supermarket herself.
  22. I don't recall that Owl. Tell us again!
  23. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿคฃ
  24. Griff I saw that some of the Chinese meat markets with the bats, pangolins etc. had opened up again and indeed some had never shut down in the first place! ๐Ÿ˜ฑ๐Ÿ˜ฑ On the other hand some areas in China have now closed down and banned the dog meat markets. Lets hope that movement overtakes the rest of the vile trade. The 1918 Flu pandemic started in the US when bird flu crossed from wild ducks to domesticated ones and a young farm lad contracted the deadly flu from them. He was about to join the army and took the flu with him to a camp for soldiers about to embark for France. It spread from there. It's just amazing that we managed to go 102 years without another pandemic but here we are.
  25. I very much doubt that April will be the best month ever Jazz. Have you seen what's going on in the world ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Is everyone sleeping alright? I'm finding I'm waking up a lot through the night. Eve I'm glad the kennel cough seems to be on the mend. My brother's family dog, Taz, had to go into our vets HQ at Cockermouth yesterday for a scan. He's always had a dodgy tummy but he's lost loads of weight lately and has had a dire rear. There's no signs of tumours or anything like that but they have diagnosed a digestive problem with an unpronouncable name. Anyway he's on new medication and diet.
