  1. That was awful about that killing Suzeanna. Ruby and I were just talking about it and commenting that so many people are angry these days and just let fly, whether it be with words, fists, guns, knives or whatever. Oh Griff that poor dog!
  2. Hi Alison, nice to see you post 👋👍 There's only a few of us posting these days so it's always nice to have old friends come by to say hello. I hope your health improves this year. I'm about to take Tye out. There's a cold wind blowing but according to the forecast we have rain on the way so it's better done now. Oh and Tye has also been off-lead in the garden this morning for the first time. He was very good and returned to the house and let himself in before I could get there. I hasten to add I was outside watching over him not indoors!
  3. Oh no Suzeanna 🥺 What an awful start to the new year. We got some early fireworks which Tye slept through but the ones around midnight were closer and he got himself into a panic. He tried to escape them by going under the desk next to my bed but had some boxes to shift first. He managed to make a hole for himself and cowered under there. Fortunately the fireworks lasted only a few minutes and there was nothing afterwards. He came out when he heard Ruby get up to go to the bathroom a little later and was sitting on my bed ready to be petted as she passed by on her way back. He slept soundly after that. I wish I could say the same!
  4. We are going up shortly. Just need to get Tye out for his last wee and testament. Happy New Year to all. See you in 2020.
  5. Aw, I hate that Owl when you go somewhere and plan on getting a meal only to find your too late. We had a very frosty night and everything is white this morning. Me and Tye stayed in bed till 9am and he didn't bother me for his breakfast, which is usually served 7.30 to 8.00am. I figured we'll be getting a very disturbed night tonight with bloody fireworks so a lie-in this morning would set us up. Ruby is going to take him for a walk today as I have started with a rattly cough and the cold might trigger an asthma attack. We took our Christmas tree and decs down yesterday. I can't bear having them up in the new year. Anyone doing anything special for New Year?
  6. Suzeanna Richard Leafe is universally disliked here. He has done nothing to protect our countryside or help locals with housing. The Friends Of The Lake District are just one of many organisations that are opposed to him and his lunatic ideas. He is doing more harm than good. Our town council recently returned a vote of no confidence in him. He seems hell bent on destroying the things that attract people here in the first place and he refuses to listen to critics and locals.
  7. I'm very glad to read about Wispa's recovery. Our friends who have their grand-dogs staying are back at the vets today with the old one who has had some sort of sickness and dire rear bug. She is improving a bit but they want to get her checked over. Tye and I had a lovely, peaceful walk around the cemetery nearest to us this morning. That's one way to get away from tourists and stupid dog owners! He's still having on-lead walks only so it's ideal for us. We were going to say hello to my mum but couldn't find her grave! They have added a lot of new graves as well as overhauling the area she is in and it totally threw me. We did say how-do to my little cousin, Vicky, who tragically lost her life at just 6 years of age. Also my mum's mum who has a little marker in the cremation area. We said thank you to the boys lost in, or as a result of, the 1st and 2nd WW and have beautiful white headstones that the CWGC keep in tip top condition. I realised the reason why I never know anybody when I venture down the main street anymore - they are in the cemetery! Anyway that will be our new years day walk I think. I love cemeteries and particularly the older headstones which often have fascinating details etched on them. Our friends from Jersey were here earlier and they brought us a lovely gift basket of Jersey produce. Yum yum! Ruby has gone into town to have lunch with them but, as we have yet to try taking Tye into a dog friendly café or pub, we thought it wise for him to stay home and has he has separation anxiety I have had to stay with him. Shame but never mind. I hope everyone and their pets are in good fettle?
  8. It seems trite after Griff's problems to tell you that our power failed in the wee small hours. Anything plugged into sockets switched off although we did have overhead lights still working, thank goodness. At 2.30 this morning I found myself up a step ladder trying to access our not very accessible fuse board. The 30w fuse kept tripping out. I gave up in the end & went & got a few hours sleep. Our regular electrician is away in Yorkshire but was decent enough to call me back around 9am and talk me thro what to do. Long story short our big fridge freezer is goosed ☹ Of course the freezer was pretty full. I rang our local appliance chap on the off chance he was working - he was. If he has the right sort of item in stock he'll deliver it the same day, fit it and take the old one away. He's bloody brilliant. Well he doesn't keep the big American fridge freezers in stock, as they are too expensive to keep a decent range of them but he can get us one. Great. We were happy with that but then he said he'd lend us something to save running around friends, family & neighbours with our frozen food. 45 minutes later he was here with an under-the-counter size freezer AND a fridge as he said it was no good trying to do without the fridge. The freezer is 2nd hand but it's a brand new fridge! He refused any sort of payment, even though we said we would happily pay to rent them, he refused petrol money, he refused money for his time. He'll get his office lady to send us some brochures when she returns to work in the new year and we'll definitely be ordering our new appliance from him. All our other major appliances are from him. This is the sort of person who should be getting a gong in the new years honours. And he's like this with everyone. It's how he does business. He should give classes.
  9. This is so sad Griff. I hope you get a resolution to the situation - and soon. Tye is grand. He ate the rest of his breakfast around lunchtime and was up for an afternoon walk. He's been very lively and inquisitive this afternoon. He did a bit of baking with us in the kitchen and finished the turkey off in his dinner tonight. So glad to read that Wispa is improving. My pal's old granddog, who is stopping with them, has had to be taken to the vets today though. She's been throwing up. She's an ex Romanian street dog and the whole family love her dearly. Get well soon Buffa 👍❤ Eve I hope you and the family have a lovely meal 👍
  10. Deep breaths Griff. It will soon be over. Hope today is more bearable. Tye has only eaten a bit of his breakfast and that dog lives to eat! We just hope he's not got the bug Wispa's had. With so many tourists coming here for Christmas (why has this become a thing?) and so many of them bringing their dogs it's a real possibility that some have brought the bug with them
  11. I'm glad to read that Wispa is improving Owl but sorry you missed the cattle drive. Eve I like the sound of haggis bon-bons. It's nice to have a sofa day every once in a while. I took Tye out this morning (bloody sick of numpty dog owners though who let their dogs run up to him when he's on-lead) and glad I did so early as the weather changed not long after. It's gone wet and cold. We were planning another walk this afternoon but decided to stay put. We might have a street walk before bed IF it isn't too wet. We are having a warm-up Xmas dinner tonight and then tomorrow I will make a Turkey and ham pie with the left overs. Have a nice evening everyone 👍
  12. Gentle hugs for Wispa. Wishing her a speedy recovery.
  13. We've had a lovely relaxing day. Tye was so excited to open his presents and played like a little pup with the toys although he deaded his Kong teddy bear in a very short time. We caught him trying to steal the turkey of the kitchen counter! He'll be getting his share of it in his dinner a little later. So sorry to read that Wispa is having an off-day Owl. I do hope it's nothing nasty or prolonged. We had a video call with our friends in Jersey, the one's we are going on the QM2 with next year. They will be up here for New Year so are calling in on the 30th. Ruby is going out to lunch with them but I will have to stop home with Tye because of his separation anxiety but the lads understand. Grand to hear you are all having a decent day (apart from poor Wispa) Enjoy the rest of the day
  14. Happy Christmas everyone. I hope you all have a lovely day tomorrow however you choose to spend it.
  15. Thank you Pingu for keeping us going and merry Christmas to you and yours Ooooh I can well imagine just how cold that water is Suzeanna. Nice before the fall picture though. Tye is sporting his new Christmas bandana. He's been to the park and had a few treats. He's now in his bed having a snooze. It's lovely to have a dog who isn't afraid of the hover! I'm not looking forward to NYE however as he apparently hates fireworks.
  16. That's brilliant Suzeanna! Nice Christmas prezzie
  17. Tye held on! He scoffed his breakfast, went out for a wee and 5 minutes later was asking to be out again so I knew what was coming. Such a good boy ❤He's just given the most adorable sigh of contentment from his Orvis bed. You are right about him Eve How's Honey's eye and your earache this mmorning. Suzeanna I hope the arm starts reducing to give you some relief very soon.
  18. I finished all my Christmas prep yesterday. Got the last of the cards sent, tho I suspect I missed the last post but hopefully they'll still make it in time. Just got to take delivery of the Sainsbury order on Sunday and Ruby is nipping down to Booths, our local supermarket, on Xmas eve morning to pick up our turkey and prepared veg plus a few norty delights that are all on order. Tye has a shed load of presents and I took delivery of a bulk order of Harringtons for him yesterday. Ruby has finished for Christmas today as she doesn't work Friday's and has put a lieu day in for Monday. I hope Honey's eye will be OK Eve and I also hope you get to pick the framed shirt up without any problems. Suzeanna I reckon Philip is right about Steve being lucky not to be done for assault. The world we try and function in these days is often off-kilter. I've already wished Griff good luck for tomorrow but will say it again here- good luck mate. We'll be thinking of you. Dreadfully wet night here. Despite having his nice snuggly, waterproof coat on Tye resolutely refused to budge past the garden gate. He did a long wee and then pulled Ruby back to the front door. We'll probably have something to clean up in the morning. As long as he does it the hall on the cushion floor I can cope. It's easy to clean!
  19. Suzeanna I have been a fan of Fascinating Aida for a few years now. Some of their stuff is very rood and shouldn't be listened to if you don't care for bad language. I think it's all the funnier for the ladies being posh. Have you listened to their Irish flights for 50p? Tye was unsettled when I went out but was somewhat distracted by his favourite YouTube video from Hallmark - Christmas music with animals by the fireside. He really likes the puppies.
  20. A friend sent us a Christmas pressie and she's been asking me if we've received it. Anyway last night she WhatsApp'ed me the shipping details and it seems Royal Mail tried to deliver it on Friday last and had left a red card as no one appeared to be home. Well I was at home at the time and we got no red card. So I go to the sorting office this morning ready to play merry hell. The staff can't find the parcel and there's no entry in the book they use as an extra check to the computer system for it. They then try taking the code and enter into the system and bingo! - it shows up. More staff come to look again through all the returned-to-depot parcels and finally it's found. Our friend has only gone and put the wrong number on our address! Doh. What's more that number is a second home, which the owners only visit very occasionally, so the red card will still be sitting on their mat So the box is from our favourite bakers - Betty's Of York - I'm just hoping it doesn't have fresh products in it, like my favourite Fat Rascals, as they won't be very fresh now! We are going to open it tonight when Ruby gets home. Next door is coming to sit with Tye whilst I get my hair cut this afternoon. He'll be alright if she does nowt but pet him. I've never known a more loving dog. I'll bet Griff sees a nice dress or a pair of shoes she can't resist whilst she's in town getting those photographs copied
  21. Oh that's bad Griff. I hope your old consultant gets in touch. Jazz step away from the cake woman! I might have bought Tye another Christmas present in addition to all those he already has. Well although there's nothing wrong with the collar he came with it's black and I like a splash of colour so he's got a rainbow one on the way. Yet another owner walking a dog off-lead on the main road through town today and into the park past the sign that clearly says "DOGS MUST BE HELD ON A LEAD". He was also paying no attention whatsoever to what his dog, a Doodle, was doing as he was busy with his mobile.
  22. It's raining heavily now so snow is getting washed away. Ah well it was nice to see it. That's the trouble with a lot of pubs here too Suzeanna - tiny car parks. Hope you had a good lunch.
  23. Woke up to a white world this morning. Snow! Ruby said it was snowing heavily when they left the restaurant to come home in a taxi last night. Any one else got it?
  24. Oh no Eve, no argument from me. I love Scotland and think Scottish scenery is far better than here. We used to holiday in Scotland every year - Ruby's dad was Scottish so she's always loved it and according to my DNA I'm 25% Scottish. Cumbria also used to be part of Scotland - but then again it used to be part of Wales too! On Christmas eve we have an order to pick up which includes a breakfast basket of local produce including Cumberland sausage (or Cummerlan sausage as a Cumbrian would pronounce it) I can't wait, especially with having been on a diet these past months. I shall think of you when I'm tucking in! Thank dawg the rain/hail has stopped so Tye and I will get a dry but nippy street walk. I think we might go soon as I fancy an early night. I haven't recovered from what turned out to be almost an all-nighter on election night.
