  1. That's a brilliant result. Also, love the pose, coyly hiding behind her tail like a Victorian lady with a fan.
  2. You Media Floozie you. Sorry to hear about griff's ears still playing up, what a nightmare when the consultant is useless. I hope Scoob's tale perks up soon. Az is convinced that if he does enough batting his eyelashes and giving paw, I will give him another tripe stick. I think not: he's had two already this morning! He's turning into a tripe-a-holic...
  3. She certainly looks very cheery in those photos. Hope she continues to settle and is feeling more at home very soon.
  4. We have rain and it's gone all mild! No snow left. Plenty of time for more though...
  5. They are tyres made of special rubber that stays squishy at low temperatures. I think they are often a bit more knobbly as well. They are supposed to give better grip at low temperatures, because the normal tyre rubber gets less flexible below about 7 degrees C and so they don't grip the road so well then. They are supposed to prolong the life of your tyres too as you aren't using them in freezing conditions that they are not designed for (though I bet that doesn't make up for the cost of having them swapped over... My sister has got some, she thinks they are great. So, obviously, I want some.
  6. Dunno, should be before Christmas though. Festive Guru, when do you want to see all the entries in time to make a decision? I'll write up a proper thing and stick it on Fundraising.
  7. Given the weather I am wondering about biting the bullet and getting some proper winter tyres this year (keeping the others and getting them popped back on in the spring, so not really a huge extra cost, as it should prolong the life of the normal ones). Has anyone got winter tyres? Are they good?
  8. Re Sam's suggestion in the social media thread that we try sharing the Refuge around a bit more, I think one problem with this is that so much of the content is not viewable by unregistered users. I can see why this is, but I wonder if the time has come to be a bit more open about at least some of our content? I think if we are sharing Refuge content to try to get people to come and join in, then they need to be able to see it before they register to join in, so that they know what they are getting themselves into! Maybe Oldies Club Chat and Doggy Chat could be openly viewable, and the other Chat sections hidden? What do other members feel?
  9. I did put milk in the fridge, and it has sort of melted, but has milkbergs floating in it!
  10. We have an embarrassingly tiny quantity of snow, but you can see from our front door that there is a certain amount on top of Dartmoor, so I think that counts!
  11. You could always work on a Mindy-inspired invisible one.
  12. No more snow and the milkman made it through the frost, impressive. Am waiting to see if the binmen do the same. Alas, the milk was frozen solid. Can't decide whether to put it in the fridge or not...
  13. All of my cats are inside right now, even Henning who is huge, has a coat like a bear and normally isn't bothered by cold, and I've got litter trays out for the Bungles as they really don't want to go out much at all when it's this cold. If they were sitting outside in the snow not moving for hours I would definitely think they were ill (and if any of mine were out for hours in this weather I'd be out looking too) Thank you for looking after poor cat, I hope he feels better in the morning.
  14. I admit, I was rather envisaging something where prettiness was an optional extra. This is the forum where the 'manky body parts' thread began, after all..
  15. There is finally a tiny tiny carpet of snow in South East Cornwall! It's just deep enough for the cats footprints to show.
  16. Helloo! We have the tinyest possible amount of snow. Mark has insisted on borrowing Helga my trusty Saab rather than risk his expensive car on snow in the lanes.
  17. You could tell him that he can buy a cheap SSL certificate from http://www.123-reg.co.uk/ssl-certificates/ for 15 quid and avoid alarming people in future. You did exactly the right thing in NOT continuing and assuming it would be OK, but stopping and checking with the person who gave you the web address, I'd have done exactly the same.
  18. Assuming that you have typed the address correctly, and the owner of the server has confirmed that he has a self-signed or a shared SSL certificate, then getting this message doesn't mean the server at the other end has a problem. It just means that the security system being used at the other end doesn't have an official stamp on it. So, it's saying your Pc is looking up the certificate in the Big Book of Certificates and can't find it. You should be particularly careful that you have the address exactly correct, and that the format of the URL at the point where you get this message starts with https:// Your antivirus and firewall should still operate as normal if you click through this message, so you aren't disabling anything.
  19. Well done Mr & Mrs Farmer! He was very lucky to find them! I hope the shock has had the desired effect.
  20. I was on tenterhooks wondering if he was going to get back into the house!
  21. You think you have problems, I got so many disapproving looks from other dog walkers this morning with my nudist greyhound! I bet Kiera has more hair than Mollydog, but Molls seems to have the most amazing circulation : she just hares around like a loon in the cold, her ears are warm, she grins, she dances - and she does not shiver. The only time she looks depressed in the cold is if I make her wear a coat (well, unless it's *VERY* cold : it was aroudn 0 degrees this morning and she didn't want her coat - which is a really thin one because she hates the thick ones even more!) Az does feel the cold and you can definitely see the difference : I wrap him up in jumpers and coats and he really needs them : he's so obviously more happy wearing clothes, and without them stands there shivering and looking pathetic. And Az is much more robust in the cold than my mum's whippet Flash, who is currently wearing two thick coats and a snood for walks and I thijnk would quite like a jumper to wear underneath... Mum used to put coats on her collies, and they didn't object - but since she's had Flash, she doesn't usually bother any more, she says that compared with Flash it's obvious they don't really need them. If your pair don't feel the cold then I wouldn't worry about it, they obviously have great circulation and a brilliant internal heating system! I have noticed that Molls is hungrier than normal, and have upped her food a bit and given her some olive oil on it, cos I reckon she must be burning more than normal staying warm.
  22. Even the frost has gone .... it's a mild sunny morning in Cornwall!
  23. Stick them in a thread here - then I can see them, so can everyone else and we can maybe share the link on twitter & facebook as well, get a few more sales?
