  1. Do you have a friendly neighbour with a chain saw? One of ours saw us struggling with a hand saw yesterday morning & felled two large conifers within 10 minutes - one was dead, crowded out by others & the other was a mess, dead at the bottom & flapping around the telegraph wires at the top. He saved us hours which we then spent taking the tops out of some other trees. P.S. Why do ladders always seem to shrink when you put them up against a large tree
  2. We hack our trees whenever we have time & no harm seems to come of it. In fact that's how this morning was spent & we now have huge piles of debris to burn.
  3. The employer might have a good idea what they are looking for which could match your daughter's profile or yours or possibly neither. They will not necessarily recruit if they don't find the right person. Therefore I would be honest with your daughter and apply. She might not be what they are looking for and in that case would be turned down whether or not you applied & so you'd be missing out without her gaining anything
  4. What a shame! The stall looked so good
  5. Congratulations on your new addition. One lucky little Bichon
  6. Replied & paypalled Amy Look forward to my parcel - no great rush though Liz
  7. Hi Amy I'm going to buy some of these as presents. Please PM/e-mail me a price for 8. Liz
  8. So sorry for your loss Our dear Jester was diagnosed with lung cancer last Novemeber & we had to let him go only 4 days later. He'd only recently had a lovely holiday & shown no signs of illness. I think dogs can hide it so well and just carry on as normal. We still feel robbed of a final few years but now we are over the shock, I think we are also grateful that his period of suffering was so short and his final days/weeks full of happy times
  9. What a good boy being so chilled around the cows. So far this year no cows by us - something of a relief with new boy Reuben joining our pack espcially as we've had those Limousine cows over near us which seem very lively
  10. That looks a lovely location. Is there a website for the cottages? Do you know how many dogs are allowed? We find that having 3 really restricts our options
  11. I had Oldies Club printed postcards on my stall - supplied by Amy
  12. You are doing a great job for Oldies Club in the South West. Those green crates the supermarkets use are fab if you can scrounge some - they stack for transport & actually look okay on a stall with the contents packed neatly in which means it is quick to set up/pack up. Ideal for books as very strong too
  13. Well done Lynne. You did rather better than me at MK Cats Protection Leagues's event yesterday where we could have done with a few more customers. I did meet Phoebejo & her girls though - plus 2 chickens! I have £65 to add to funds but a fair bit of this was from sales at work. My wine tombola did okay as none of the stalls had anything like that.
  14. 10 are arriving at Crossroads today
  15. We still feel the loss of Misty (22 months ago)& Jester (5 months ago)
  16. Terrifying Please call the police. If this visit was not targetted at your family these men might be working the area and your tip off might save someone else. You may have little detail to report but perhaps there have been other reports and if they are pieced together.... I didn't report a man I once saw in my parents garden in the middle of the night - I was a teenager at the time. We later found out that 2 neighbours were burgaled that night
  17. for Jazz I hope that too much damage has not been done despite the bungles en route to obtaining a diagnosis
  18. Happy St David's Day Best wishes for all poorly and wounded folk. I hate to tell you that at work I am just checking proofs for 2011 Christmas cards! Sorry Reuben puppy is 6 months now. He is growing and is a right Timmy Toastrack - looking very much like a lurcher & runs in circles like one too. Recall is variable but so far at least he has shown no inclination to run away or chase other animals & having an off lead run in a relatively safe field means he is calmer indoors.
  19. Well done That ground does look kinda mud brown
  20. Sorry to hear your news Jules. Any cancer is scary but the prognosis for prostate cancer caught reasonably early is one of the best. I bet you will hear about many more people who have been diagnosed, treated & given the all clear.
  21. Sorry Sam - I thought I was in the FFF thread. Oops
  22. Has anyone heard from Michelle (Jacobean) lately? Is all okay? I have a homecheck volunteer awaiting news and am puzzled as I thought it was an urgent request
  23. I'm sorry you have lost another little friend in such a short time
