  1. Hi, i don't post very often and i would just like some advice i have a 3 and a half year old cross breed, he has been attacked several times the most recent being last week and this has resulted in him barking at other dogs, he has been assesssed and attended a group training session weekly (which i never thought we would be able to do( oflead in a hall)) until he got very ill before christmas, he is a fantastic dog to own and will walk past a dog on the otherside of the road now with a leave it command and he will now perhaps woof once instead of being a maniac leaping around everywhere, this is where i need your advice and it is not a training issue as i believe i have done my best to avoid this situation, last night whilst on our walk we ran into a man who allowed his daughters dog to attack my boy last year which resulted in me being bitten and my dog, i did not report it to the dog warden.after the dog attacked he began to hit the dog after he eventually reclaimed it, even though i was hurt and my own dog was injured i gave him a mouthful about beating the dog. the thing that makes things worse is i heard his daughter telling him she knew that would happen that is why she wanted the dog onlead but again he knew best, we saw him last week with a new dog and it began stalking from one side of a massive field over to my boy who was onlead with me, i shouted to the guy to call his dog back and he blanked me the same as when the other dog attacked, so i yelled again, it took 3 attempts to get the dog back by which point my boy had began barking the dog eventually returned to its owner but when they came back down the field the same thing happened although my boy ignored the dog, the owner was just having to break into a run to retrieve the dog, well last night we arrived in the field, the guy saw me and i saw him so i went to a smaller field which is adjoined and i made sure he saw where i was, i put my boy in a sit stay and allowed him oflead, he has 100% recall and doesn't bother with another dog aslong as he has his ball, we played ball and i was just giving him a drink of water when i spotted the guy coming into the field i sat my lad down and clipped his lead on, again the dog began this bizzarre stalking and i called for the man to please call his dog away (i am always polite and 99% of people oblige) he tried to recall the dog ...nothing, he tried again.. nothing, by this point i could see history repeating itself, all i could get out of him was "oh its o.k he is friendly and just wants to say hello" i asked again for him to reclaim his dog as my boy didn't want to be bothered, he just again repeated the dog wanted to say hello, at this point i resorted to lifting my dog all 30kg of him and again the guy just looked, i am disabled and the only pleasure i have is walking my dogs, my boy has never bitten another dog however i do understand some dogs could see his barking as threatening so i always try my best to avoid him being placed in this situation, now this is the bit which confused me and i would be interested in your veiws, i said that if he had no control over the dog it shouldn't be oflead, if he couldn't recall the dog the dog could get hurt (i know several people round here allow aggressive dogs oflead), he turned round and told me "he had more control over his dog than i did over that bl**dy thing" meaning my dog, would my dog be classed as out of control beings as he was onlead and did nothing other than woof?? i am dreading the next time i meet him as my health can't take having to try and lift a big dog i can't get hold of my dog warden for advice so i thought i would ask some other knowledgable dog people. thanks in advance and apologies for the long post it was just weighing on my mind
  2. you might find this site of interest, hopefully you won't need them http://www.doggonwheels.co.uk/ i am really glad to hear tekno is making good progress :)
  3. i just wanted to point out that argos now have the babylis home tanning spray thing for £19.99 instead of £50. it comes with plastic sheet thing to stick to the wall and drape on the floor so you don't get tan everywhere, 4 bottles of tan solution and 1 of exfoliator oooo and this one runs on the mains instead of gas like the rio one
  4. this was my fence before adding the reed and this was after i added the reed screening and completely finished i got my screen from wilkinsonplus, it is available in different heights too i needed something cheap and fast as if my neighbours kid teased the dogs anymore murder would have been committed!!! hope you find a solution oh forogt to say that screening is 6'6" high the maximum i could legally get away with
  5. i used a product called "bob grass" on my boy after he had mange, he had hair loss on his throat and lower legs, his skin wasn't broken though, if you have a google, see what you think and if you want to try some instead of having to fork out for a pot i have about 3/4 of a pot left that you can have i must warn you it is really smelly and if you have light coloured carpets etc may not be ideal
  6. i used stock fencing for my back garden was still having trouble with the neighbours so i added reed screening too you could have 6 ft stock fencing and then a lower height of reed screen that way the garden is enclosed at the bottom but still allows light through higher up for your neighbour

  12. i don't post much here but i just want to let you know that Charlie cat should be fine i was away on holiday around 8 years ago, on returning there was no sign of my cat, my parents came back and my mum was in tears, apparently the cat had been missing for 2 days and had been very seriously injured, we are not sure if it was dog attack (no bites were found) or a traffic accident(no scuffs on his claws ar abrassions(SP), anyway long story short i rushed to the vets and saw poor old dex, he had fractured his pelvis and his back leg was smashed, i was given 3 options 1.PTS 2. fuse the leg 3. amputation, initially i went for pts as i couldn't imagine him being the same happy cat, the vet said he wouldn't pts but he would keep him himself as he was certain dex would be fine i asked what he would do then if it were his cat and he simply stated amputation. i was allowed to bring him home for the weekend before his op and he was still trying to walk about and managing quite well considering how uncomfortable he must have been, dex had his op on the monday and he stayed with the vet for a few days just to make sure he was o.k(i reckon it was more for the vet than the cat ) we got him home and he was walking around, i was warned he may just be a house cat but i am very pleased to tell you that after numerous callouts for the fire brigade dex is still a happy tree climbing fence hurdling nuter in fact he is such a good advert for amputation over pts he was requested to attend a vets conference a few years back in birmingham and stole the show! he became a little celeb appearing in the local newspaper the only after effects that dex has is he needs an anti inflamatory a couple of times a year as when it is cold he can get a bit uncomfortable but i don't know if that is his pelvis that troubles himor the fact his other legs need to work slightly harder. it is a awful decision to try and make but i am so pleased my vet persuaded me to pick amputation :GroupHug: :GroupHug: for all of you and healing thoughts sent to Charlie
