BESSY

**UPDATED: FEBRUARY 2013**

Location: Previous home in Norfolk, UK.

Key Points: Home savvy, very loving, timid of strangers, good with dogs, travels well, good first time hound.

The gorgeous Bessy is a 4 year old ex-racing greyhound girlie who is looking for a new home. Bessy has been in a home environment for the past 3 years, but has sadly had to come back to us now through no fault of her own. She is a gorgeous black girl who is in tip-top condition.

~ Personality ~

Generally: Timid at first, then friendly, loving, cheeky and playful.

Bessy is a very sweet girlie who will appear quiet and maybe a bit reserved upon first meeting you, but becomes a super friendly, affectionate and bouncy girl once she recognises you as a friend. She is a lovely girl who blossoms into her own if given a wee bit of time upon initial introductions. Bessy would be a fantastic girl for a first time hound owner as she doesnt have any major issues to speak of. She is very loving and cuddly, especially in the evenings, and is an all-round star of a dog.

~ In the Home ~

Generally: House savvy, not destructive, food thief, ok to be left with canine company.

Bessy is well used to living in a home environment, and is housetrained and home savvy. She is not destructive and ok to be left with canine company while her parents work. Bessy knows all the usual household dos and donts but that doesnt mean she wont still try to pinch your dinner! She is a very good, well behaved girl but does still have juuuuuust enough of a cheeky streak to keep you on your toes. Shes a rather large foodie and will look for scraps of food at dinner time. Her previous owners have a baby gate that can go with her to her new home to help control her manners in the kitchen.

Bessy loves her toys and is a regular comedy act when she flings them around the room. She likes to vocalise a bit when she gets really excited, such as just before walkies or when offlead playing with other dogs. There is no malice in her at all and the barking is not excessive, its just her rather loud way of saying how happy she is. She also barks to tell you when she needs to visit the garden.

~ Other Animals ~

Generally: Good with dogs, loves to play.

Bessy loves other dogs and really would be happiest with at least one other pooch to keep her company in her new home. She is used to being left during the day with another greyhound Finley (also looking for a forever home), and so is not used to being completely alone.

When offlead with other dogs, Bessy loves nothing more than a game of chase. As such she may be happiest with another dog who can play her game, i.e. keep up with her! She can get a bit over-zealous with very small dogs and be too rough for them, but she will stop playing if told.

~ Out and About ~

Generally: Walks well with Halti, timid of strangers, travels well, good recall.

Bessy walks well with a Halti as she can at times pull without it. She tends to be a bit nervous of strangers, especially men, approaching her, but again if given a bit of time she comes into her own quite quickly. Her recall is relatively good but she will need a bonding period with her new owners before she can be let safely offlead. Once her recall is proven in save secure areas, Bessy would be suitable to be let offlead in areas away from public roads and livestock.

~ Greyhounds as Pets ~

In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly.

~ Where Am I? ~

Bessy is still with her previous owners in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you will be required to travel to Norfolk to meet and collect her.

~ Want To Adopt Me? ~

Bessy is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.

If you are interested in adopting Bessy, you can contact me (Tam) via email: [email protected], or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs.

There is an application form for adopting a Kerry Greyhound, and we will ask you to fill it in as the first step in the adoption process. To speed up this process, we recommend you do this before emailing/calling. You can find the form, as well as further information on our homing procedures, on the Adoption Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/adoption.html.

Thank you.

Kerry Greyhounds UK is a voluntary organisation based in Norfolk, England. It focuses on rehoming unwanted Irish greyhounds and lurchers, as huge numbers are bred in Ireland each year and homes are few and far between. KGUK operates through a network of volunteers spread over Ireland and the UK. We can look after approximately 30 dogs at any one time in both kennels and foster homes.

Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, & microchipped before being adopted (unless stated otherwise).

We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in all corners of the UK. If interested in one of our hounds, please feel free to contact us via the following:
