Tamakin Posted October 15, 2012 Report Share Posted October 15, 2012 SELONIKA **UPDATED: OCTOBER 2012** Selonika is a lovely 6 year old ex-racing greyhound girl who finished up her track work a couple of years ago and has been kept on with her trainer ever since. After running a staggering 49 races she is definitely deserving of a sofa to call her own. Selonika has a gorgeous brindle coat with a very pretty little face, though is surprisingly tall for a girlie. She is in great condition and really is a beautiful lady. ~ Personality ~ Selonika is an utter sweetheart, so affectionate and grateful for everything given to her. She’s just so easy to have in your home. She loves people, adores affection, and really enjoys other dogs too. This girl has the potential to fit into a range of home types as she’s really a no-hassle kind of lady who just wants to enjoy life. She would be a super greyhound for a first time owner, but would also slot so easily into an existing pack of dogs. We hope she isn’t waiting too long for someone to give her a space on their sofa, she so deserves to settle into her forever home as soon as possible. ~ In the Home ~ Selonika is in a foster home at the moment where she is experiencing living in a home for the very first time in her 6 years. You wouldn’t guess that, however, as she has been housetrained from day one and is absolutely good as gold! Selonika loves the other dogs in her foster home, and is very happy to share her space and even her food with them. Selonika is still settling to the home life, but is doing so well. There really hasn’t been much adjustment time needed at all, all she needed was to find the sofa, figure out how to get on the sofa, and learn how to squish in between other dogs on the sofa! ~ Other Animals ~ Selonika is really brilliant with other dogs of all shapes and sizes. She is used to interacting freely with other dogs and so is very savvy in her communication skills. She knows how to play, though at age 6 she wouldn’t be up to the energy levels of a young puppy anymore. However, Selonika would be a truly fantastic companion for another lonely dog as she’s so easy going and steady in herself. Nothing much fazes this gorgeous girl. ~ Out and About ~ Like most greyhounds, Selonika is a lazy hound at heart and will not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week. She walks like a dream on the lead, never pulls, and is a true joy to bring on walks. ~ Greyhounds as Pets ~ In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. ~ Where Am I? ~ Selonika is currently being fostered in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to us in Norfolk to meet her. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Selonika is vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. She is not yet neutered, but this will be carried out prior to her going to her new home. We just want to give her a bit of time to relax before putting her under the stress of an operation. It focuses on rehoming unwanted Irish greyhounds and lurchers, as huge numbers are bred in Ireland each year and homes are few and far between. KGUK operates through a network of volunteers spread over Ireland and the UK. We can look after approximately 30 dogs at any one time in both kennels and foster homes.
