KYLIE

**UPDATED: 7th JULY 2013**

Location: Foster home in Buckinghamshire, UK.

Key Points: Super sweet, affectionate, well adjusted, good with other dogs, home savvy, good traveller.

The sweet little Kylie is a 7 year old Irish greyhound lady who, after 32 races and even a litter of pups, is now finally ready to find her retirement sofa. She is a petite 25” black girl with the sweetest wee face that has a peppering of grey around the edges. Kylie has spent all her life so far in kennels and has raised her fair share of greyhound puppies, but is in good condition and health. After some extra daily TLC and brushing, her coat is wonderfully sleek and shiny.

~ Personality ~

Generally: Loving, calm, very affectionate, undemanding.

Kylie is so incredibly sweet, a real sweet little sweetiepie! And have we said that she’s sweet?? She’s gorgeous in both looks and personality, and really just wants to be fawned over and doted on all day long. She loves to give and get affection and is a cuddle sponge. She really enjoys being around people, and would stay with you all day long if you gave out ear scratches. At the same time though, Kylie is not in your face or overly demanding about getting her quota of love. She is very much content with what she gets, and doesn’t ask for much at all. Kylie is very gentle and quite sensitive. She can be a wee bit shy in new situations, but doesn’t take long at all to get over it and enjoy the moment.

~ In the Home ~

Generally: Housetrained, good with canine company, not-destructive, learning not to steal!

Kylie has been in her foster home for 9 months now and is very content. She has the house routine down pat, is fully housetrained and is not destructive when left with just her doggie friends for company. She comes when called and despite her age, loves playing with toys. Her favourite toys are squeaky ones, and she is much improved in her sharing abilities now that she knows there are plenty of toys to go around. When she first entered foster care, she tried to hoard and defend her ‘bounty’, but has relaxed considerably over the past few months. It’s a delight to see her adjusting to the home life, and she is definitely ready for a forever home to call her own now.

Kylie’s primary love in life is her tummy. She LOVES food and feeding time and is trying very hard to remember to be patient at meal times. She just loves her grub! She now knows not to steal off the kitchen counters, and even leaves the kitchen entirely on command. Bin bags left unattended outside are still fair game, but she is learning at a good steady pace. She is even refining her tastes of late, after taking a liking to the odd cup of tea!

~ Medical Issues ~

Kylie can get a slight limp on one of her front legs after a hard run or longer walk, and it is believed that this is due to an old injury. She does not need any medication for it other than perhaps a joint aid food supplement.

~ Other Animals ~

Generally: Very good in general, care needed with smalls.

Kylie gets on very well with other dogs and really loves their company. She shares her foster home with a well-adjusted pack of 4 sighthounds and slotted in very well. She will give a wee grumble if another dog steps on her while sleeping, but there isn’t any follow-through. She’s just an older lady who likes a bit of respect from her fellow canines. Kylie can live with other dogs and would adapt just fine as an only dog provided there is someone at home to give her company – she’s not overly keen on being left alone.

Kylie is getting used to meeting other breeds of dog, as she has seen mostly greyhounds up to this point. She is now fine with meeting other breeds and sizes of dogs, but a bit of care is needed when introducing her to very small dogs initially. She is very polite in meeting them once she sees them to have dog behaviour, and we can help and advise new owners on how best to introduce Kylie to the smallies. Kylie is not cat friendly.

~ Out and About ~

Generally: Walks well, good traveller, polite with people/canines, will pull upon sight of a small furry.

Kylie is a beautiful balance of couch potato and sprightly walker. Basically she loves a bit of exercise in the form of 1-2 daily walks and/or a wee offlead gamble, but also loves sleeping and snoozing throughout the day. She can on occasion have a slight limp on her front leg if she overdoes it when running, and is doing very well with two 30 min walks a day at a steady pace. She walks beautifully on the lead though can on occasion pull if she sees a cat or squirrel in the distance. Kylie also travels very well and settles down immediately.

Kylie is a very low maintenance lady who asks for nothing beyond tasty food and daily cuddles. She would suit a relatively sedate household who will potter around with her on daily walks but not push her too much.

~~ KERRY GREYHOUNDS UK ~~

Kerry Greyhounds UK is a small voluntary organisation that is based in Norfolk, England. It focuses on rehoming unwanted Irish greyhounds and lurchers, as huge numbers are bred in Ireland each year and homes are few and far between. KGUK operates through a network of volunteers spaced over Ireland and the UK. We can look after approximately 30 dogs at any one time in both kennels and foster homes.

Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, & microchipped before being adopted (unless stated otherwise).
We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in all corners of the UK.

Our Website: http://www.kerrygreyhounds.co.uk

If interested in one of our hounds, please visit our website’s Adoption Page for information and instructions on our homing procedures. Once you have filled in and returned the application form, we will then contact you via phone or email to discuss adopting one of our hounds in more detail.

If you have any further questions, don’t hesitate to contact us. I (Tam) can be contacted through the following email:

Generally: Housetrained, good with canine company, not-destructive, learning not to steal!

Kylie has been in her foster home for 5 months now and is doing splendidly. She has the house routine down pat from watching and following her foster siblings. She is fully housetrained and is not destructive when left with just her doggie friends for company. She comes when called and has even started playing with toys! Her favourite toys are squeaky ones, and she is much improved in her sharing abilities now that she knows there are plenty of toys to go around. Kylie recently visited the vet had her very bad teeth sorted. Though she now just has 11 left, she is a happy healthy lady. She can get a slight limp on one of her front legs after a hard run or longer walk, and it is believed that this is due to an old injury. She does not need any medication for it other than perhaps a joint aid food supplement.

Kylie is getting used to meeting other breeds of dog, as she has seen mostly greyhounds up to this point. She is now fine with meeting other medium to large dogs regardless of shape., but a bit of care is needed when introducing her to very small dogs as she might not realise they are indeed canines. So far she is very polite in meeting them once she sees them to have dog behaviour. Kylie is not cat or small furry friendly.

Kylie is a beautiful couch potato who will be content with a couple of shortish walks and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs in a secure area once or twice a week.

Kylie is still looking for her forever home, and we can't quite understand why! She’s a delightful older lady who asks for so little and is a wonderfully loving companion.
