snow
I have been toying with getting an external HD for ages, at the same time my son needs additional storage for his eMac so I had thought to go 50/50 with him and buy one larger drive - however, it just struck me that the damned thing would have to be formatted all I'd use it for is back ups for my PC but Nick would use it both as a back up and as a second drive. In theory external drives can be partitioned and presumably that should mean I could run both formats Windows on one partition Mac Os on the other - however theory is one thing actually accomplishing it quite another Being a mac novice I'm not too sure that I would even know where to start ... does anyone have any experience of running a dual format external HD? if so was it simple to set up and does it work ok? Or would I be better off getting 2 slightly smaller drives and keeping them seperate operating systems?
Richard (The Sane)
If you don't mind 32Gb partitions you could format the drive as FAT32 and then the mac and pc could both read all partitions... Can't think of any technical limitations to having on NTFS and one HFS partition though.
