Coach House Kennels are being run by Homeless Hounds as a non profit making organisation ... all funds after running costs will be ploughed into the rescue which helps poundies get into rescue or find new homes.

Right by the motorway Jct 1 M55 (just off M6) and a really nice friendly boarding kennels where dogs and cats are looked after by caring people who aren't just "in it for the money".

  2. Wish my local Morrisons would stock up on black pooh bags ... they shoot out the shop in about a week and then it takes them 3 months to get some more

.... and no I can't stand nappie sacks as the stench of them (unused) gives me asthma. :mecry:

  3. This is cross posted, with permission, from another forum and was posted by a Rosedene volunteer

Can i say that first vaccinations are done on each dog by the vets as they come 3 days a week, and homechecks are always carried out, they have a list of medications and who has what, and if a dog seems unwell they do so the vet.

Clean bedding is put in every day and there is a walking list for the dogs, for every day so they know which dogs go out.

I know because i was one of the volunteers, who walked the dogs, tranported them and did home checks.

I have had to say this because even though a lot needs to be done to the place to get it up to scratch, at least all this was done.

OK the buildings may not be up to scratch ... but how many other pounds, homecheck, first vax, KC treatment, daily walking, vet medication etc?

Am sure many other pound's buildings may not be up to scratch but don't do any of the other stuff ... which to my mind is probably more likely to mean that dogs cope better with the situation they are in than with Dogs Trust type buildings.

  4. Fife Rottie Rescue, is that too far, they do a really good job rescueing Rotties.

Agree with Mrs Mop about FRR ... a small rescue who go the extra mile to help Rotts ... they have taken RDR dogs in the past and I have transported for them.

Surely this was nothing to do with welfare issues .... 50 officers

Sounds like the dreaded DDA to me IMHO .... mob handed in case there were any dreaded illegal breeds in there.

This kennel, which is a pound, helps to get rescue places and homes for many Staff and Rotties which nobody else wants to know about and has a good volunteer base.

Would like to hear what experienced DDA people think?

  6. Find your home by pressing + - (zoom in zoom out) and the arrow buttons at the top.

Then click the "add a placemark" icon ... blue upside down teardrop thingy ... this lets you move it to where your house is. Once the tear drop is in place on the left there is a listing headers in blue .... click on yours (which will be something like Placemark 3) and it will allow you to edit it .... write your name and description in the box and then click Save at the top of page.

  7. I use Glycoflex for two of mine ... I crush mine up in pestle and mortar and put on food.

    http://tinyurl.com/glycoflexatvetuk

Glycoflex II: contains 750mg Glucosamine HCL, 50mg Dimethyl Glycine, 600mg Perna Mussel (containing Chondroitin -4 & -6 sulphates) & 500mg methylsulphonylamine (MSM) plus manganese 10mg.

Chondroitin and Manganese both necessary IMO

I also use Fish Body Oil for all my dogs .... for myself as well  .... as long as it has minimum EPA 180 DHA 120 they're all the same ... the cheapest place I can get them from is

    http://tinyurl.com/zipvitfishoil

although Holland and Barrett sometimes have them on offer for really cheap prices.

1000mg per 20lb body weight or therapeutic dose 1000mg per 10lb body weight ... that is info from a good canine nutrition list ... however I would start a medium sized dog on 2000mg per day.

  8. I am sick of trawling through Google to try and find a site that sells "different" fabric collars at reasonable prices :(

    Anybody know of one?

I don't want Rogz or other fancy stuff .... just 3/4" normal plastic clip fastener but something a bit different for the fabric. On ebay the only ones I like are "from Hong Kong"

  9. Vera Baird .. arrogant when I've seen her on TV ... and has been mentioned not the best place to take a "pup". Politicians ... "do as I say not as I do" IMO.

In our village there are only a few people who deliberately don't pick up .. but I went to visit a friend in a town recently ... very "nice" area but high dog population ... and there was pooh everywhere ... pavements and kids playing field.

This is an unworkable law because the dog wardens don't have the time or inclination to enforce it. This means that anti-dog feeling gets to such a pitch that the council's try to bring in more draconian laws like keeping all dogs on leads everywhere which effects the responsible owners as the pooh leavers don't take notice of laws anyway.

I would say in these days of mobile phone cameras it would be quite easy to enforce the dog fouling law. However it doesn't help that the dog wardens department (in this area anyway) gives information on the complainant to the person committing the offence. I have personal knowledge of this through a friend who has a Lab (and was in the wrong) and somebody complained about her dog being pushy with her Yorkie and when my friend rang the dogwarden dept about it they told her who it was!!!

So if you tell the dog warden about some big macho bloke letting his dog foul they tell him who it was so you get a fist in your face.

  10. and whay oh why does the report have to mention staffys and rotties..

whilst were on the topic of stupid things police say..

someone took one of the dogs from our centre, a lurcher, out for a walk to see what he was like with a view to homing him. he was approached by a volunteer cop type thing and told he was breaking the law walking a dog unmuzzled in public...this was in morley in leeds. If the dog had been off lead and out of control I could forgive it a little but the dog was double leaded on a harness and collar, walking at the blokes side along the pavement ( not in town centre) and was very friendly with people...hasten to add he didn't take the dog becuase he didn't want a dog he'd have to muzzle in public, i tried explaining that was not the law but obviously a man in a almost police uniform has a lot more sway than me. made me very angry.this was about 8 months ago.

This doesn't surprise me in the least ... I know an ex police officer (female) who told me that she and a colleague were on patrol and saw a bloke with a Japanese Akita ... it was on lead and they went up to him and told him it was classed as a dangerous dog and should be muzzled. The man didn't know any better than to just say "fine I'll get him muzzled".

I told her that Akita's weren't on DD list and she told me I was wrong. Only agreed with me when I emailed her DDA info on the breeds in question.

Well lets face it .... Japanese Akita.... Japanese Tosa ... anything big and tough with Japanese in front of it's name ... bound to be on the DDA listing

Your average run of the mill police no b****r all about dogs and dog breeds. :(
