  1. Hello everyone Managed to lock my self out of my account again , really should not be allowed on the internet with out an adult !!! we are back in Sri Lanka after a few weeks in the UK which as lovely and a well needed break off to read back now Sam x
  2. Dog we sterilised from out of our normal area last week died suddenly last weekend after some odd symptoms and we performed a post mortem rabies test today ( I learnt how to do that in Malawi ) and it was positive everyone who has been in contact with the dog is now have boosters and titre testing Makes all our work really worthwhile and brings it all home
  3. I think his father's attitude is chilling , he really seems to believe what he is saying doesn't he
  4. Thats how I feel , I personally voted to remain but I respect that more people wanted to leave and thats democracy you can't generalise about 17 million people , there has been mis information and misdirection on both sides , good and bad reasons for people making the decisions they have, like most of you I have seen very rude messages from both people on both sides attacking each other and we have all seen very bigoted views from some people who were totally focused on immigration and I am sure rational people on both sides find those extreme views very worrying
  5. Aisling tells me Mark and I have now voted ( she has our proxy ) I did not dare trust the post from here !
  6. I had a very odd dream last night but as soon as I woke I forgot it but I do know it was so odd that I even knew I was dreaming at the time even the whole idea of dreams is pretty bloody mad when you think about it , all that make believe stuff in your head in pictures with no rules if they didn't exist and someone suggested the idea you would think drugs were involved
  7. Is amazing how much eyebrows can change your appearance isn't it ? I don't wear make up but I do sometimes get my brows done if I am starting to look like Denis Healey It sickens me , their are so many things that people need to get angry about in this world and bloody football is not one of them , with that said I fully understand the people doing this are not fans just thugs and they should all be bloody locked up congratulations all round
  8. ahh yes the daily mail reporter sat with me and mark at dinner one evening , he was clearly taking notes ! overall the dogs were pretty okay , and in the areas where they were less healthy so were the people Just had a call about 3 potentially rabid dogs so we might be out with our nets later trying to find them if the caller comes back with location details
  9. I know its June but I have just booked tickets to visit UK over xmas ! at the amazing bargain price of £371 per person return it really does pay to book in advance it seems !
  10. you can get it more than once and its her 2nd time , there is a Hemorrhagic version which she had this time which is more serious and does take longer to recover from
  11. Malawi was actually quite cold at times ! mind you I am used to plus 30 now so most places feel cold to me !!! Srima is fully recovered from her Dengue , luckily the countries leading Dengue hospital is close by so medical care is pretty good
  12. morning all , I am struggling to get back to the swing of things here I think I am still on African time and the weather is awful , Mark and I were shaken out of our beds around 4 am with what I believe was the worlds largest clap of thunder , its been raining all morning so we can only hope we don't get any more floods Whats everyone else up to today ?
  13. morning all all my bags did arrive much to my surprise , and today is a day off for us both my housekeeper knowing I would have done the same thing was offering all the local villagers use of my washing machine as all their clothes were wet and dirty due to the floods , today the meter reading man who had heard about the free squirrel washing machine service has said that the electricity board will not be charging me for all the extra electricity we used which I thought was very kind indeed , Griff and Suzeanna hope you both get a pain free good nights sleep tonight x I am going to spend my day watching series 3 of Line of Duty which is my new favourite TV show Sam
  14. I think its the law have a very happy birthday xxx
  15. hello everyone I am currently in Mumbai on my way back from Malawi , what an amazing and very emotional trip that has made me really take stock of life , the challenges for people living there are simply overwhelming as Malawi is one of the 10 most poor countries in the world the children coming to clinics wearing literally rags without shoes or even worse just one shoe are like something out of a Dickens novel. Malawi is a beautiful country and I was so lucky to be able to travel on my few days off and see some wildlife and to see some amazing scenery as part of one of my jobs which was to walk 10-15km a day in rural areas with a local guy so I could vaccinate dogs and cats against Rabies. not sure if the link will work but I have added some photos to Facebook , if not I will post some here when I get home to Sri Lanka https://www.facebook.com/samanthajanegreen/media_set?set=a.10153513877907611.1073741847.701502610&type=3&pnref=story Sri Lanka has as many of you will have seen huge floods and landslides , My house has been damaged but nothing we cannot fix and its still habitable so like many unaffected households we have currently have been hosting 2 families from our village are living in our house as theirs was underwater for a week , our local hotel has been providing free food for the many displaced local people every day. Sam x I posted this one a while back , a friend of mine has been using it with great success https://www.trustedhousesitters.com
  16. hello from Malawi , we have been here a week and we are lovely it but the internet is very very very slow so we are not online Hope you are all well Sam x
  17. wow Griff thats really really rude and I agree very I would have felt very uncomfortable Mark visited our housekeeper Srima today and she is feeling a lot better and will be moving in with her family to house / dog / cat sit whilst we are away but is under strict instructions not to do any cleaning for a few more weeks as Dengue is very serious and you must not rush the recovery. I imagine it must sound like Mark and I are Lord and Lady Grantham with our house keeper / gardener / handyman but in our defence they came with our house ( all the same family ) and I felt it would be bloody mean of me to have sack them when I took over the tenancy just to save a few bob a week , with the hours I work its great to have some one to look after the animals / house etc and Srima loves all the animals so I know they are very happy when I am away We are in the grip of a dreadful heat wave here , at midnight its still 32 degrees in my bedroom and its well over 40 in the day but as my thermometer only goes up to 40 I have no idea how hot it actually is. The monsoon rains are due soon and every one cannot wait for some cooler weather I head to Malawi on Friday , temp there is only 20 degrees which will be like standing in a fridge compared to here !
  18. sorry to read you have had your op cancelled at 11th hour but it sounds like you are not happy with the planned procedure so maybe a blessing in disguise
  19. Ouch , hows your back now ? Where did you go ? we are going to Malawi but fly via Kenya from India so its a but of a odd routing ! I figured after 10 years in Asia it was too good an opportunity to miss I have a friend who gets very worried about travelling overseas so I think its actually pretty common , she has come to Europe with me twice when we were at conferences and really enjoyed herself but she won't visit us here because its just too far. Srima is due out of hospital today but she will need weeks to recover , she is moving in to my house when we are away so I am telling her I want her to lay on the sofa watching tele dramas ( soap operas ) all day !
  20. Glad you got your bed today Snow hope you are in and out in super quick time Sri Lanka has been having a heatwave the last few months , hottest summer since the last freak heatwave in the early 80s , we were at 39 degrees today and all of us are melting during the field work. Its so bad Sri Lankans are getting heat stoke ! Monsoon season arrives in the next few weeks and every one is really looking forward to the rain My lovely house keeper Srima is also in hospital with Dengue fever , she lives in the same village as me and her husband had it last year and he was very poorly for a month Not sure if I mentioned this but Mark and I travel to Malawi next week for a 6 week stint with Mission Rabies, I have never been to Africa before so I am very very excited
  21. make sure you are sitting down my vets still talk about you fainting ! they say its the most spectacular faint they have ever seen !
  22. I go to Cricket here and its easier to watch at night madly ! What an amazing 4 last balls , the West Indies really deserved the win but I do feel sorry for the English bowler
  23. Hello I am back as me ! Thanks Snow
  24. This is Mark with a guy from a local village who has a mental age of about 7 years old. Now this chap loves clothes, totally adores clothes and once came to our clinic 6 times in a day with lots of different outfits on so that we could all admire them (which we all did) When we passed him yesterday afternoon he was totally rocking a look which was a ladies flowery tee shirt, a orange pair of fishermen’s pants and a gold pair of crocs and waving at us as always. Mark stopped the car and ran back to him with one of our Dogstar baseball caps and he hugged Mark and told him he loved him, Mark just hugged him back and told him he loved him too. I tell you it brought bloody tears to my eyes and to the village ladies who were also watching. I think Mark made his week, it certainly made my day to watch it and it made me think how luckily I am to share my life with some one who cares so deeply about how others feel and goes out of his way to make a difference in others lives
  25. Cripes ! I have seen the photos of the dreadful flooding in your area , I do hope you , Ruby and Archie manage to stay dry xxxx
