  1. Hello, Slipper has now found her loving forever home, so this thread can now be locked please! Many thanks
  2. Hello, Jester has now found his forever home! Can this post be locked now please? Many thanks!
  3. TYKE Sex: Male Age: 10 years approx Breed: Staffordshire Bull Terrier x Tenacious Tyke came to us from the pound after he was dumped there following his involvement in a road accident. He didn't move from his bed for over a week after he got back from the vets, but he hung on in there. He was there longer than his seven days as he couldn't be put up for rescue or rehoming until he had recovered. He has now fully recovered from the accident and is now ready for his new home. Tyke is a lovely lad who would happily fit into a home where long walks, love and companionship were the order of the day! He is a friendly dog, good with people but is wary of other dogs, so would be better in a pet free home, and one where any children are older. He is a strong dog, so needs someone used to or able to deal with a strong dog on the lead. He may be a little deaf as he doesn't always react to what he is told straight away...or maybe that is selective hearing! Tyke is a senior boy who would love to have a home of his own....he has fought so long to be here with us still, can you now offer him the comforts he deserves in his later life? He will be vaccinated and neutered. Could Tyke be the right dog for you? If you would like to know more about Tyke please PM me or ring 07941 653924 www.poundhounds.co.uk
  4. Hi Karen, PoundHounds have rehomed dogs to people working full time, as long as they can get home at least once during the day. We currently have a very well behaved, placid, fit n healthy 10 year old staffy cross in foster called Max who is a fantastic dog - but he keeps being overlooked due to age. I don't know where you live but our rescue is based in Leeds with kennels in Worksop and fosterers all over the country. If you'd be interested in any further info please give me a shout! Maly x
  5. Hi, Meet Jester: He's a medium sized dog with a big personality! He came to us direct from the pound where he caused a stir with his antics and comical ways - hence his name. He really is a funny fella - you name it, he does it: funny noises, silly little walks, bouncing for no apparent reason... We don't know exactly what breed he is but best guesses so far are terrier x beagle with maybe a small amount of GSD thrown in for good measure! He loves people, is fine with other dogs and we're currently testing him with cats (and the goats, just incase). Jester is currently awaiting his forver home. if you think you could help Jester please visit the PoundHounds website, or email [email protected] Thanks
  6. Hiya, Meet Slipper the cuddlebug: doing what she does best - giving cuddles! This gorgeous girl has been in kennels for such a long time and no-one has any idea why! She's quiet, calm, friendly, good on her lead, fine with other dogs, cats, even goats! She's got the soft fluffy coat and tail of a GSD, but is the size and stature of a whippet. She'll literally stop anything for a cuddle - as soon as you're stood still she'll gently stand on her back legs and put her front paws on your hips and nuzzle her head in to your body. She'll happily stand like that for as long as you'll let her - all day if she could! If you're sitting down she'll gently nuzzle into your legs for more strokes. Slipper really needs a forever home of her own. She's constantly overlooked in the kennels as she's so quiet and doesn't run to the front wagging like so many do. If you think you could offer Slipper a loving forever home, please contact PoundHounds via the website or ring Maly on 07762341090
  7. Hi all, Meet Louis: He's a lovely friendly AmBull who is a bit hard of hearing. He was handed in to the pound by his previous owners and after serving his seven days, came to PoundHounds where he is now waiting for his new forever home. He walks well on his lead and is fine with other dogs (he previously lived with a bitch). He's been in kennels for a while now despite people showing interest - I think his size puts people off! He was slightly rotund when he came into the kennels, but has slimmed down to a more reasonable size thanks to a decent diet and some proper exercise. Louis would love a new home with understanding owners who are willing to work with him to help overcome possible difficulties arising from his partial deafness. If you can give Louis a home please contact PoundHounds via the website or pm me for more details. Thanks!

    Pound Dogs

My mum once lost her small cavalier king charles spaniel as some idiot workment left the living room door open then the front door! I raced to shut them both but the dog was halfway down the street by then! Luckily we got her back.... At that time Pepe was only about 10 weeks old so as of yet hadn't been chipped. If anyone had found her I dunno what would have happened! it really bother me that when you routinely take a dogs to a vet, they never scan for a chip and check the details on the computer are yours! How many dogs are in the wrong hands that have bene chipped etc but no-one has checked them! Little OT but I know of a person in Newcastle that is the most uncaring person when it comes to dogs. She's had no less than 5 in the past 5 years - 1st was a deaf dalmation that she just got sick of so gave back to the breeder (at 3 years old). Next was one of those dready dogs - again she got sick of him so she left the door open for him to run off. 3rd was a lovely pedigree rottie who her husband punched square in the face then when he held his hand in his mouth firmly (not bit, just a 'hey, watch it sonny!' gesture) whisked him off to the vets to be pts saying he had bitten their 3 year old son! Next was a bulldog, he lasted 6 months before hubby 'found him dead'. PM confirmed he had a ruptured windpipe. Hmmmmmm. Now they've got another bulldog, he's 2 and he's got all sorts of problems. I've now (with the help of the RSPCA) managed to convince her that he is her last dog! I was reading a thread on some dog furm yesterday and a girl whose profile says she is a kennel hand said 'Staffys? I was wondering what you were all talking about but now someone's said pit bull I know exactly what you mean. We get loads of em in here and they're all put down straight away cos they're banned dogs' !!!! And she was a kennel hand!!! I must try to find a link when I get home. I dread to think how I'd feel if my AmBull went missing and instead of scanning her for a chip some idiot just said 'oh another pit bull, best put her down'!!
  9. I know that now :/ Tila & Lola were my own first dogs, but not my families. I've always been around gos and not just me, but several people in my family have kept same sex bulls without any problems. I did do my research first too, unfortunately I was given very bad advice - by vets as well no less! I spoke to various people and they all reckoned if I got the dogs at the same time then there shouldn't be much of an issue. They recommended I feed them separately to stop an foody issues (which I did) and to be honest, until we moved the most I ever witnessed was a slight growl if one dog was asleep and the other droped a ball on the other to ask to play. They had their own spaces and slept in different places so had some time alone, but I suppose they always knew there was someone else around. I'm erring on the side of Tila being lonely and stressed. The fact that she never even looks at doors, walls etc when someone is in clinches it for me. She's perfectly happy as long as somone is around. I just worry so much when we leave her alone, you hear so many horror stories about dogs eating something they shouldn't.... I'll look into some other possible remedies in the meantime anyway
  10. I'm in Leeds - it'd be great if someone can recommend a good behaviourist! I'll look at the t touch thing, never heard of it before but great if it'll help! When we leave Tila, she has the run of a large long hallway on the ground floor, the bathroom (much larger than your usual bathroom!), the large landing space where her bed is, the stairway down to the basement level and the large hallway and a half down there. We always leave the bedroom doors shut (she's not allowed on our bed) and I'd be concerned about leaving the door to the lounge/ kitchen open as there's leather sofas in there that could easily be chewed & a plasma screen tv that can be knocked over if it was run into (polished wooden floors, a clumsy dog and a love of chasing balls don't mix if unsupervised!) I've never let her (or Lola) have the run of the entire house while I'm out but it's not like she's stuck in a small space or anything. Although this is a new house, she had less space during the day at my old place and she never chewed
  11. Aw I'm so glad they liked them It was so nice of you to pick them up. Hope they makes some poor dogs a lil happier. It was lovely to meet you too! I'll let you know when my boyfriend comes round to my way of thinking (notice I said 'when' ) x
  12. I'm in LS6, bottom of Headingley. I'm pretty close to Otley Road and Burley Road. I'll PM you my phone number and email address so you can get in touch. It'd be great if you could pick it up. Seems such a shame for it all to go to waste! I'm pretty sure I've got some small dog toys that Tila n Lola had whe they were pups if you think they'd be interested in them too? Maly x
  13. Hi, I've got a rather large amount of food n treats that my rather large fussy dog Tila has refused to eat, so I'm trying to find a local worthy cause to donate them to for Christmas. Unfortunately I don't drive and the only rescue I know of in Leeds is the Dogs Trust. Does anyone know of any others? I'd rather they went to a smaller public run place if possible. Alternatively if anyone is passing through Leeds on a transport run they'd be welcome to pick them up? So far there's (all sealed): Large bag of Bakers 12 tins of Butchers tripe tins 2 x 1.5kg bags of Terrier Eukanuba Various small sample bags of Royal Canin, Trophy & other dry dog foods Box of Pedigree treats Various Bakers treats Cows ears Pedigree Jumbones There's bound to be more in the other cupboard, I'm just being lazy n listing what I can see Maly x
  14. Hiya all, Sorry to pretty much reply to all comments in one thread! I got both Tila & Lola at the same time when they were very young pups. Up until they were about 6 months old there was a fair bit of chewing going on, but I figured that was pretty normal for bullbreeds! After around the 7 month mark it pretty much stopped with only the occasional chewed up tennis ball as a reminder. They seemed to be far more interested in playing with each other than chewing walls/ carpets etc! Things pretty much stayed that way until I had to give Lola up (both dogs were in kennels for a while during the move, but once we got in the new house Tila just wouldn't let Lola anywhere near her which made Lola very depressed and caused me no end of worry) As soon as Lola left, the destructive behaviour returned. Only while she's alone though - never if someone else is in the house with her, even if they're in different rooms, locked in the bathroom etc (again, except maybe the odd tennis ball). Now if I leave her toys or anything else, she just chews them up. I've also tried the hormone plug-in thing, recording my voice, leaving the radio on, leaving TV on.... That's why I'm not sure if another dog would help the problem - she genuinely seems to hate being alone! I hope that helps answer some questions. I don't know of any good behaiourists in my area. The only two I've found practise methods that I don't agree with (totally ignoring your dog to show it who's boss?! She's depressed enough as it is!) Maly x
  15. Hi all, I was on here in July/ August as I was in desperate need of a new home for my Staffy Lola. She found an excellent home and is now fully settled with her new loving family However, my other dog Tila, an AmBull now seems very lonely She pined for Lola for weeks, even though she wouldn't tolerate her now we're in the new house. Basically, I'd like your trhoughts - Tila HATES being left alone (even though she's only left for 4-5 hours a day) and has started being pretty destructive. Some of the vets I work with suggested getting another dog to keep her company, as until Lola left she has never been alone. Thye reckon a male one who has experience of being with other dogs and one who is probably of a disproportionate size and age to Tila would be best if I do decide to get another one. I've spoken to my boyfriend about it and he says if it makes Tila happy then it makes him too. But, being the sensible chap he is he suggested I consult as many people as possible to see if others have had a similar experience and how it has worked out. Has anyone heard of a situation like this? If so, what happened? Tila is nearly 2 and about 40kgs. She has occasional problems with her hips but is generally a happy bouncy dog when out n just lie most AmBulls is lazy as anything when in the house. If anyone hasd any advice to give I'd be very grateful! Maly x
