  1. Hi-has anyone got any recommendations for campsites in the lakes that are dog friendly? My son has been despirate to go to the lakes for ages and we don't live too far away, but i would have to take the dog and she has never been camping before. Cheers Fenella x
  2. Good grief! This post has sparked a bit of a slanging match! Thanks so much to Kev for coming over today and working with Pushka-i feel really positive and am going to keep up the good work. Have ordered a collar and long line as i thought they worked so well today. Thankyou so much to everyone who has taken the time to answer my post-i have felt really well supported. Now could you all stop having a go at each other? Surely we are all here for the same reason-our love of dogs-thanks-fenella x
  3. I got a phone call back from one of the behaviourists i contacted and it turns out she knows Pushka already! What a stroke of luck. She worked with her in her previous home before the owner decided to give her up. The behaviourist says the dog plays as rough as you can get, and is a lurcher/staffi cross. So it sounds like she was playing after all. She said i was doing everything right and is coming to visit next week to start work on her again. She also gave me a tip on how to control her if it happens again. She reckons the games of tag etc have very little to do with what happened, just that she loves her toys and playing.I have taken her out again -minus the son!-and she was a pleasure to walk-so am off to work feeling a lot happier!
  4. She is really nice natured! Usually! Her leads are nylon-and her pull toy is nylon so thats going in the cupboard! Just had a phone call from the rescue who are going to come round tomorrow and see whats what-I am not giving up on her. Now i have recovered and calmed down i am determined to give this another go. I have left messages with 2 behaviourists. Will take her out again before i go to work and try a more firm approach if she tries anything again. Will keep everyone posted.
  5. I use a harness already and she works/walks really well with it on-and is definately getting much better at not pulling so much. If she starts to pull i say-WAIT-and stop and she stops and then is only allowd to walk on when i say so. Sometimes i have to do it 3 or 4 times before she will walk without pulling and sometimes less. But i am having to do it less and less each day. The lead biting has only started in the last couple of days-actually-while my son has been with me! Maybe he is the key!
  6. I will get a muzzle and halti on my way to work and use them when i take her out in the morning.
  7. Games have been stopped.Ii have left a message on her answer phone and the kennels where i got her from are trying to contact her on her mobile-Dog will not be going out on a walk tonight while i am at work.
  8. Well now i am really confused and don't know what to do. I don't want to give up so easily, and i have to go to work tonight but how can i gurantee my kids safety while i am gone? She loves playing in the house and plays tag and tug-of war really well, and is not agressive at all. But this attack felt very different, like she was possessed.
  9. I have sent her a message but do not have her telephone number so all i can do is wait for her reply-unless i contact the kennels she was in-i know their number and address.
  10. She was originally from the newcastle cat and dog shelter and was homed to a lady who adored her but after a couple of months could not cope with Pushkas strength. Her knee got shattered by pushkas' rough playing with another dog so she reluctantly got rid of her.We don't know why she ended up in the cat and dog shelter first. She is 3 years old and i feed her on JWB.
  11. She has never gone for me before-just the leads,so i turn my back just to give her the message that i am not playing.
  12. I have just had a really scary experience while out walking my new rescue dog. Had her 2 weeks and have been walking her with 2 leads and a harness as she is extremely strong and has a tendency to pull. Sometimes while out she will attack the leads like in a game of tug-of-war,so i just stop walking and she soon stops and carries on walking again. But today while out after 2 hours of her walking really well she suddenly went for the leads and then for me. I turned my back on her as i always do and she just repeatedly attacked my arm and the managed to break one of the leads and ran off. She ran back almost straight away and let me easily pick up the lead and walk on as if nothing had happened. My arm is really sore-luckily i was wearing a thick cardi and jacket, but i have some really nasty marks and bruises on my arm. Now i don't know what to do-if my daughter had been out walking her i dread to think what would have happened.Fenella x
  13. Here are some photos of her looking knackered after all the walking i am doing with her!
  14. Thanks for your replies. I will try and put pics on but i'm not very computer literate! If any of you are on facebook then feel free to add me-fenella judd-there are lots of photos of her on there with all my rats as well-and some of the kids! She is not lazy though! I walk her for 4 hours a day,and i rekon she could do a lot more!
