  3. Yes, i agree, I would take her to the vet just to get it checked as it is so close to the eye. Anyway, I have found that if you take dogs into the vet after for minor things after they have had a not so nice experience, it helps them get better about going back. Hope she is all right Anne
  4. You are welcome Selina. I keep a lot of doggy stuff on file, in case I ever need it. It's nice when I can help someone with my pile of "useless" information. Anne
  5. How is Jack today, is he feeling more settled?? Anne
  6. Selina I am very sorry to hear that Ollie has Pancreatitis, here are some links to some useful information for you. The first is from Lew Olson's B-Naturals newsletter Pancreatitis Since Addison’s, Cushing’s, Diabetes and Hypothyroidism can all lead to pancreatitis, I have added some links on that ailment as well. Pancreatitis is a symptom of an inflamed pancreas, and feeding high fat diets can aggravate it, but they can not cause it. Besides the four disorders above, pancreatitis can be the outcome of steroid use, certain antibiotic use and a few other prescription drugs. Always check for the reason causing this problem. I will post a website for recipes at the end, which I find more beneficial for nutrition and controlling the fat in the diet, while still providing a good variety of foods. http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?cls=2&cat=1580&articleid=335 http://www.vetinfo.com/dencyclopedia/depancrea.html http://vetmedicine.about.com/cs/dogdiseasesp/a/pancreatitis.htm Pancreatitis and diet. This link includes easy-to-follow recipes: http://www.b-naturals.com/Jul2004.php There is also a yahoo group on the subject which might give you some pointers. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dogpancreatitis_ HTH and of course, the best thing I send is love and a huge hug to Ollie Anne

Everyone always thinks their own dogs are the most beautiful in the world, so it lovely for you guys to compliment them as well. Anne
  8. Poor Ollie, I hope he is feeling better soon Anne

  11. Sorry, I have failed - how do I post Pictures Anne
  12. Hello, I have been here for a while but just not got round to introducing myself before. I live in beautiful South Derbyshire with my husband and our two rescue dogs. Barty, a nearly 5 year old lurcher with no hips and Chloe, my 3 year old rough collie cross who lived all by herself in a field for two months after being dumped when she was 4 months old. We travel up and down to our house in South West France 4/5 times a year and in between we do what we can for any rescue's that need our help. I semi-retired last year and am now doing some freelance marketing work from home, so I get to spend lots of time walking and playing with my dogs which is just heaven. I look forward to hearing about everyone else here and if we can help in anyway, do let us know Anne, Barty & Chloe
  13. I can't believe after living through all that he is such a gorgeous tempered boy. Jack, it was a pleasure and an honour to have met you. Anne
  14. Tracey, you very nearly didn't get this one, Roz and I were fighting over who was going to kidnap him on the journey. He was an absolute angel, a little star and we both fell in love with him the short time he was in our care. I hope he is very happy with you until he finds his forever home. Anne

    Bulging Disc

I don't know whether anyone has any experience and could give us advice but ... Barty my lurcher with very severe HD (off the scale) had an accident in April last year from which he never really recovered. We have finally got a diagnosis that he has a laterally bulging disc in the bottom disc (sacral) of his spine for which there is nothing they can do surgically. We are having acupuncture but he at the moment can't function without PLT tablets twice a day. I would dearly like to get him off these steroid tablets and would appreciate any advice. Thanks Anne
  16. Hi I have a lurcher with very severe HD, he was diagnosed at 5 months (dumped - obviously) and I have had him ever since. He will be 5 in May. Important things with HD - always keep them on the thin side of normal, Barty weights 28 Kg and a normal lurcher his size would be around 29.5Kg. A good glucosamine, chrondroitin supplement is important - dogs must have more than 1000mg a day of glucosamine otherwise their stomach acid neutralises the effect. I use Synflex which seems to work just fine for my boy. Swimming is also very good for HD - it helps in loosing weight and keeping muscle tone good. My boy is terrified of water so he won't swim but for most dogs it is great. Regular exercise is also very important - two shorter walks a day are the ideal - three if you could manage it. If your dog needs pain relief - Devils Claw is an excellent natural anti-inflammatory. Until you have got your dog comfortable I would try and not allow him to do stairs or too much jumping. It took me a year to get Barty stabilized but now he is he does stairs, jumping and everything or he would if he hadn't screwed a disc in an accident, but that is another story. Anne
  17. Hope Guiness and Scooter are feeling better today and good news that there might be a permanent home for them. At least there should be any more humping for a while !!!! Anne
  18. Lynne, I scarcely recognise them. Well done you. You must have spent hours shampooing and trimming them !!!!!! (vbg) Anne
  19. Fantastic news and I really hope she has an even longer and much happier life from now on. Anne
  20. They humped all the way from the owner down to Roz on their transport run. I was hoping it was a stress thing but I think they just like humping !!!!! Poor things I am sure everyone will be happier if they get the snip. Good luck Lynne Anne
  21. Hang on in there Chloe - I have a special girl called Chloe too and she is sending hug licks and woofs to get you through your ordeal. Anne
