  1. can I ask a question, I am on a healthy eating diet thingy cos I was so ill over christmas that I need to give myself a boost. I have decided to cut down on fat and carbs and eat more fruit and veg etc. Anyway today I bought nuts and trail mix to snack on, but noticed that they are both very high in fat, including saturated fats, so does this mean I should avoid dried fruits and nuts if I am trying to lose weight? I only started on monday, umm yesterday
  2. Bilbo has a few split claws, I was wondering if anyone knows of a supplement I can give him to strengthen them??
  3. nightmare hack today, someone was in an arse mood - spooking at everything, we had stops and rears and spins and all sorts - guess what happens when you aint been out for a while, half the horses are in and because of some of the mares being out round the house we cant put the stallions out, bring on the decent weather and the new barn for next winter.
  4. wow, sounds like fun, is he coming for rehoming or retirement? Those of you that have the Rimfrosts, do you use them all year round or just winter? cant decide between Rimfrosts or lined johd boots and half chaps
  5. if anyone wants a medium Musto snug, light blue outside and dark blue inside, new with tags, £50 including postage, I bought it and cant find the bloody receipt to take it back, will have to ebay it but its a great deal if anyone is looking for one
  6. riding boots that can be worn over jeans and keep toes toasty warm, ideas please as my toes got cold hacking today
  7. not good pics as it was my phone, will try and take camera one day. Just a short hack to avoid the main road, 1/2 a mile down we met a monster - aka a black pony in a woods, so Nookie had a wobbly and decided to spin in the road and try and trot full speed home, to conquer our monster fears I had to walk him past the black ponies field so that he could see it was just a pony - he walk up to the field bellowing and the little pony refused to answer which only convinced Nookers even more that it wasnt a pony Hopefully we can get over our monster pony fear the next few times out down the drive past the big field that we cant gallop about in even though it looks fab down the road towards the monsters house
  8. that is one cute little foal. Jenny, good luck with the pig oil hope it does the trick for you. Jackie - I am envious of your chance to go hunting, I am dying to start teaching one of the Appies to jump cos I love jumping, might start teaching Nookie and see if he likes it, but we have a yearling filly whose partbred thoroughbred x appy and her appy sire was a grade A showjumper so she will have bags of promise - she has been bought in as a potential brood mare to put a bit of sports horse into some of the foalys and a bit of height, ours are all about 15.2hh. Nookie is getting his shoes today so we are off for a hack tomorrow, havent got any off road hacking so its gonna be fun. I will try and take some pictures
  9. its gonna be taken out, vet says its not bothering him now but that it will do in future, he hoped it might come out itself as Pea is only just coming 4, but doesnt seem keen on shifting. I stood my ground and suggested a snaffle which they are going with for now, he works well in a snaffle so no need to faff about
  10. anybody got experience of using western hackamores, the new owner of Pea is buying a western saddle and they have been told to use a hackamore - now my understanding is that a hackamore is quite harsh and needs gentle hands, is the western style hackamore the same - the new owner of Pea is a novice rider. He does have a retained wolf tooth which causes him to play with the bit, but a light weight snaffle didnt cause any problems? any ideas?
  11. *waves* hello Well Pea has settled in his new home, yard seems empty without him but this week we are putting shoes on Nookie so that I can hack him out as the paddocks are getting a bit muddy for just schooling - plans for an all weather school for next year so fingers crossed This thread just gets busier and busier, lovely reading all the stories and great pictures. Your new horse is beautiful Andrea, looks like fun
  12. Pea passed and his new family brought the horse box and took him after lunch, and guess what - he did still manage to hit the deck once luckily he was only being lunged to get his heart rate up and he only went down on 1 knee, but everyone laughed and so he got all put out and showed off even more - of thats possible Great news Jayne, glad you and Blue and doing well together
  13. well done Catherine and Apple, sounds like a great day Wish us luck tomorrow, its Pea's licensing and if he passes thats him off to his new home - I will really miss him but I want him to pass. You guys think you have lunging problems, I have to lunge Pea for his licensing tomorrow and so today had a trial run, so out into the field and he shoots off, tail erect all set to show off, gets to the end of the lunge line, mis-judges the damp paddock and his ability to prance elegantly, neigh and ponce all in one go - and falls flat on his nose - lets just hope he has more sense tomorrow in front of new owner, vet and licensing officer
  14. wasnt meant to be, the right horse will always find you and the ones that go astray are the ones that are gone for a reason
  15. anyone hankering for a new Musto snug?? T K Maxx have them for £39.99, then are normally £100. Mostly summer colours on my store - pinks and blues but for that price they are a bargain. I am off to investigate my other local store in case they have one on my size in a colour I like, they had a lush dusky pink and grey one in medium, but not large.
  16. thank goodness Bumble is OK, what a worry colic is. I am sporting a very sore right hand side of my face today after a certain spotty arsed boy flung his head right back and brained me when we had a minor arguement about the direction of his trot circle - guess whose getting a running martingale An inch higher and I would have a peach of a black eye but am just sporting a very sore cheek bone - ow!
  17. Kimba's mum - good luck for the weekend and take your camera and get someone to take some pics for us. Pea is having his stallion licensing next wednesday, if he passes then he is off to his new home
  18. no pony bridles in the stash I just cleaned, I have tack cleaning arm today - its a medical condition caused by cleaning tack for 8 hours Didnt think of the cocktail stick, that would have made things alot easier than finger nails
  19. found this on their site about one of the bridles "This handcrafted deluxe padded leather bridle has a raised padded crank flash noseband, raised browband and hook stud billets. This bridle is made from European leather and features rubber covered reins and stainless steel buckles." so its not English leather. 3 more bridles done - 2 with brass buckles and browbands which took ages and ages
  20. was looking for something else but if anyone is looking for some really great deals on bits, bridles etc, then Tesco direct seem to have alot to clear, there snaffle bits are £3.19 and those of you with clubcards, 500 points (which if transfered into tesco club card deals is £20 worth of dry cleaning ) http://direct.tesco.com/q/N.1999273/No.30/Nr.99.aspx
  21. 3 full bridles, 11 sets of reins cleaned and 13 assorted bits in the dishwasher still got a stash more to do and put together. basically they have been dismantled and left lying about by previous stable girls and were getting wrecked so muggins volunteered, its very theraputic
  22. Naughty Evita, I love hearing about your day and especially about the foals and what they get up to Clare, that does sound like a right pain in the bum, you have every right to be peeved off if you are paying through the nose for your livery Jayne, looking forward to hearing how your ride goes tonight, hope you get good weather, its a bit iffy here at the moment. Who likes cleaning tack, I have got about 20 bridles in bits in a big sack in my kitchen, going to clean them all and put them back together as they have been left in a bundle and I have no idea what goes where gotta do my ironing first, yuck!! much rather spend the day cleaning bridles than ironing
  23. Back from a brilliant day at the stables, back riding again as we had a juggle at the yard and Nookie the main stallion had a mare and they were in the riding field so I couldnt ride Peacemaker near them as Pea is entire too - bloomin boys. So mare has gone home and we brought both stallions into the stables, then I lunged and rode Peacemaker who is coming on really well seeing as he is just learning - some rubber bit gaurds seem to help with him playing with the bit, did lots of halt and walk transitions and plenty of walking circles, just a short trot and only a couple of bucks, he is certainly more forward going than when I first started working him so thats great. Then I turned Pea out into an outlying paddock and got to ride Nookie for the first time - he is just lush, he is 10 years old but was backed and ridden alot when he was younger, just hasnt been ridden really for about 4 or 5 years, he hadnt forgotten a thing, such a gentle mouth and a suprisingly steady and compact canter. Didnt ride either for long as they arent that fit just yet, but I was grinning like a cheshire cat when I was done
