  1. I've got Softee Country Dog waterproof beds for mine (like this) and put a piece of vet bed over the bottom cushion to make them cosier. The feel of them is like canvas, they aren't slippery and squeaky like some waterproof beds. The dogs really seem to like the high sides.

The Large is easily big enough for my greyhound-sized lurcher (in fact he often squeezes into the Medium I bought for the smaller dogs), and they do an extra large which would probably fit all five of mine rolleyes.gif

  2. Some dogs are naturally more vocal when they are playing than others -Meg (small hairy crossbreed) has a whole vocal repertoire of barks, yips and 'growls' which can sound very alarming, but she hasn't got an ounce of aggression in her. Other dogs seem to recognise that she's completely non-threatening, but owners sometimes get worried. My lurchers often sound as though they are killing one another when they play, though oddly they are much quieter with strange dogs, I guess because they are a bit less relaxed.

Bessie sounds fine, and as Anne says this will probably settle down anyway as she gets more used to socialising with other dogs.

What sort of dog is Bessie? I hope we're going to hear a bit more about her and see a picture at some point flowers.gif

  3. One of my past greyhounds had to have 22 teeth out shortly after he arrived with me. Amazingly, once his mouth healed he still managed to eat dried food with no problems, and could manage things like rawhide chews (I think he used to suck them into submission laugh.gif )

  4. This is a difficult one, legally he has to do his 7 days in the pound (or 28 days with his finder) before he can be rehomed or placed elsewhere. He will at least be safe and can't be pts until his time is up- and of course it's possible he will be reclaimed in that time.

Rescues aren't normally prepared to take strays until their 7 days are up and legally can't do so without the DW's consent. It may be better to try to find a rescue who will take him after his time in the pound is up, but that's not going to be easy mecry.gif

  5. Agree absolutely with Victoria, I've seen proposals for variations of this scheme or similar discussed many times, but enforcement would be hugely expensive (and unworkable for all the reasons above).

I'd rather see any (mythical) additional resources go to provide education for owners and free or cheap neutering services in problem areas.
