Dogs with blocked or infected anal glands often chew their paws - I think they do it as general stress relief because they are in discomfort. Might be worth getting it checked if the vet hasn't already?

I've got Softee Country Dog waterproof beds for mine (like this) and put a piece of vet bed over the bottom cushion to make them cosier. The feel of them is like canvas, they aren't slippery and squeaky like some waterproof beds. The dogs really seem to like the high sides.
The Large is easily big enough for my greyhound-sized lurcher (in fact he often squeezes into the Medium I bought for the smaller dogs), and they do an extra large which would probably fit all five of mine

That's not good
My only experience with them was positive, I ordered four dog beds from them and they arrived five days after the order was placed.

Possibly it wasn't 2011 Elaine However you must be one of our longest serving fosterers
Amazing to think it's been six years, where does the time go
A huge thank you to all our volunteers who have made this possible

Well done all involved in Westonbirt, the stall looks great and that's an excellent amount of money to have raised
Olive - I'll send you an INAH lead, I didn't realise you hadn't got one.

I am *just a bit* in love with Billy, he's so gentle and laid back, a real gentleman

What a handsome boy, I'm so pleased he's safe and being cared for now, Elaine

Oh of course it is, how stupid of me
Lovely to hear how Bessie is doing

Some dogs are naturally more vocal when they are playing than others -Meg (small hairy crossbreed) has a whole vocal repertoire of barks, yips and 'growls' which can sound very alarming, but she hasn't got an ounce of aggression in her. Other dogs seem to recognise that she's completely non-threatening, but owners sometimes get worried. My lurchers often sound as though they are killing one another when they play, though oddly they are much quieter with strange dogs, I guess because they are a bit less relaxed.
Bessie sounds fine, and as Anne says this will probably settle down anyway as she gets more used to socialising with other dogs.
What sort of dog is Bessie? I hope we're going to hear a bit more about her and see a picture at some point

I'm so sorry your beautiful girl has gone
Sweet dreams Sophie

One of my past greyhounds had to have 22 teeth out shortly after he arrived with me. Amazingly, once his mouth healed he still managed to eat dried food with no problems, and could manage things like rawhide chews (I think he used to suck them into submission )
-
Poor Billy, that's a lot of teeth to have out
Once he's recovered I'm sure he'll feel a lot more comfortable without them though.

How did I miss this?
A belated Happy Gotcha day to beautiful Sham

That is just appalling

Would a pressure washer operated from the ground do the trick? You can hire them if you don't have one.
There are all sorts of cleaning agents you can use with them, but I have no idea what you would use for exterior paintwork - you may find just a wash down with water under pressure will do the trick.

She was a smashing little dog and was very much loved in her final home. She was full of beans right up to her last few days, it's very sad she's gone but she had a wonderful year
-
I'm so sorry Nigel, it's just not fair after all you have been through last year
All my thoughts are with you and little Archie

This is a difficult one, legally he has to do his 7 days in the pound (or 28 days with his finder) before he can be rehomed or placed elsewhere. He will at least be safe and can't be pts until his time is up- and of course it's possible he will be reclaimed in that time.
Rescues aren't normally prepared to take strays until their 7 days are up and legally can't do so without the DW's consent. It may be better to try to find a rescue who will take him after his time in the pound is up, but that's not going to be easy

Yes, we have public liability insurance, I can send you a copy of the policy document (but not sure if I have your e-mail address, could you PM it to me?)
We also have a very simple template for a Risk Assessment form that you can adapt, I can send you that as well if you like.

Agree absolutely with Victoria, I've seen proposals for variations of this scheme or similar discussed many times, but enforcement would be hugely expensive (and unworkable for all the reasons above).
I'd rather see any (mythical) additional resources go to provide education for owners and free or cheap neutering services in problem areas.

Awwww, she looks as though she's saying that she's decided that she's got her nice warm coat on, it's time to go out!
