  1. Of the symptoms on that link Otis had.... 1. Lethargic behavior such as a lack of interest in play, frequent napping, tiring out on long walks 2. Weight gain, sometimes without an apparent gain in appetite 3. Bacterial infections of the skin 4. Dry skin 5. Hair loss, especially on the trunk or tail (“rat’s tailâ€) 6. Discoloration or thickening of the skin where hair loss has occurred 7. Cold intolerance/seeking out warm places to lie down 8. Slow heart rate 9. Chronic ear infections 10. Severe behavioral changes such as unprovoked aggression, head tilt, seizures, anxiety and/or compulsivity 11. Depression 1. Yes 2. Yes 3. Not really, but very slow healing 4. Yes 5. Yes, he looked like a pony with a trace clip for a while 6. Not really 7. Yes, and heat intolerance too 8. Hard to tell, as he gets so excited going to the vet that his heart rate always goes through the roof! 9. No 10. Extreme behaviour towards unknown dogs (the red mists ) overexcitement, compulsive behaviour and a 'three second memory' yes, but no head tilt/seizures 11. Not noticeably, he tends to be quite a happy chappie normally. Once we managed to get the dose of soloxine right, most of the symptoms either disappeared or lessened significantly. Just check that your vet is aware that greyhounds/lurchers can have have the T4 levels of other dogs and still be 'normal', as lots of vets aren't aware of this. Otis has never been sick, but does have a habit of bringing up water after drinking, which may be the start of laryngeal paralysis, this is sadly linked to hT. Free free to pm me if you want any more info, and don't worry Once controlled, if it is hT, Daisy will be much happier in herself
  2. My lurcher with hypothyroidism (his thyroid function is absolutely zero and has been for about a year - he is treated successfully with soloxine) drinks far more than my lurcher with a bit of saluki (who drinks very little) because he can't regulate his body temperature and is often too hot or overheats quickly. Is it only weight gain that is pointing towards hT, because they tend to exhibit a number of the symptoms? Otis displays the lot! Incidentally if Daisy has deerhound in her, then hT is more coomon in deerhounds/deerhoundy types
  3. Thanks Mel, but it was best that we did before I cut him into little pieces and fed him to Otis, it was a long time ago (2004) but the financial dispute resolution has taken a while, as result of much missing money!
  4. It has been empty since August, should have let it out on here I guess! Leaving it is a small price to pay for having the blood sucking leech of an ex husband removed from my jugular vein though
  5. RMF: Sale of my house has completed Funds on the way
  6. Funnily enough, Queen B is the only 'tooter' in this house - we put it down to her age!
  7. so it is now hanging in my kitchen
  8. I've been thinking about one (a Mooncup, not a chuff twitcher) might be brave and take the plunge now
  9. I've always understood wounds 'breaking down' to mean not granulating properly. I guess, depending on the type of wound, it could be as a result of the edges having rolled (healed back on themselves) in which case then they need to be debrided. Otherwise is the wound too dry or too wet? Both can prevent healing but you can get different dressings to combat this. Does the dog have any other medical condition which might affect the healing process? For example, Otis's hypothyroidism seems to have an impact on his skin healing rate Hope whoever is sporting the wound is soon healed PS I have no medical knowledge whatsoever (unless O level Biology counts!) I just happen to live with lurchers
  10. My birthday is 'Be an Angel Day'

  12. Believe it or not Florence is Bearded Collie cross Staffordshire Bull Terrier. She disappeared, assumed stolen, from Nonsuch Park, Epsom on 8th February. The main thing is she desperately needs medication for an ear problem. When under stress she will chew at her paws until they are red raw. Florence is Black and White, 10 years old, she is speyed and microchipped. The picture shown is not the most recent, her coat is much shorter and not so shaggy as she was recently clipped. Owners can be contacted on 07960 317564 Please forward this email to everyone on your mailing list a.s.a.p. and crosspost to forums Regards Jennie
  13. Forget child-free dining, I want a room where both cigarette and cigar smokers can go, eat red meat (preferably rare) meat on the bone, game and offal without being tutted at by other diners - you can call it discrimination against a sector of society if you like, I'd call it perfect!
  14. I don't tend to eat in family type restaurants and I don't mind children where I do eat but only if they are well- behaved...although I am not sure that children should be allowed to run amok in McDonalds, for example, just because it caters for families. PS The only thing I REALLY cannot bear is when children in nappies are lifted above the table for the parent to smell their bottom to see if they need changing - I can understand one needs to know, but please don't do it in a restaurant when I am eating, because it makes me gag
  15. You ok? Call me if you want to So sorry to hear about Littlest, bet she is running at the bridge in search of sausages, hugs to you and Bryan from all of us here xxx
  16. Run free Bridget, clearly a very loving and much loved girl. My thoughts are with you all
