  1. I am a very bad Fugee who has been lurking and not posting here again for ages.

I have to cross into the foreign territory that is Cardiff tonight.

As I once worked for someone who was convinced they needed a passport to go to Aberdeen (senior person, obviously, with lots of academic qualifications, and therefore much cleverererer than me) I thought I'd give them a ring in a moment to see if they think I need one for Wales .........

According to the hotel details there is internet on the television in the rooms. I may have to check in if that's the case. :D

  2. Now you see I would just have both on the go!

I don't like to knit in the summer (here's hoping!) because my hands get too sweaty with the wool, and, although I have a daylight lamp, I much prefer the natural light of summer for cross stitch.

And of course you can knit while you read or watch television, whereas cross stitch needs a little more looking at.

Not to mention that hopefully you won't be needing the jumper until the autumn anyway.

Do both - and tell yourself there's good reasons why!

  3. I don't want to go into full details here, and I'm not quite sure how the Oldies Club is organised.

However, if there is anyone in the Lincolnshire area I could contact, there is a "situation" which I accidentally became involved in last night, which I could do with some urgent help/advice on.

If anyone can chat to me, I'd very much appreciate it if they could PM me a contact name/number.

    Thanks.

  4. Sometimes I need to remind myself that this was how Tigger looked the first time we saw him.

Our little man, scared of life, scared of people, has grown over the last three years into a confident loving young man, who squeals with delight when he sets eyes on his favourite two legged friends and, just like his namesake is bouncy and fun.

So three years ago, on St George’s Day, an Irish boy called Trigger left Wiccaweys to share his life with us under his new name of Tigger. Paul at Wiccaweys had told us he was “a cuddle monster†when he first spoke to us on the ‘phone about Tigger – it took us time to find the cuddles part of this personality rather than the monster which he seemed determined to display– but as usual we found Paul was so right.

And, with much help from Wiccaweys, Tigger has become what he is today – life here just wouldn’t be the same without him – thank you Sarah and Paul for letting us adopt him and for supporting us through all Tigger’s downs and ups. And thank you to others who’ve offered their help, advice and support over the three years, and who remind us from time to time just how far Tigger’s come.

I’ve been and bought the mackerel this morning- the only decision left now is for Tigger to decide whether he wants plain mackerel or mackerel and garlic cake for his gotcha day party. Knowing Tigger he’d prefer both!

  5. Sorry I haven’t updated sooner – arrived home at 6.50 pm to find OH wanted to take Daisy for a Good Citizen Bronze rehearsal and was in need of moral support. I was actually in need of a mug of tea, dinner and sleep in roughly that time, space and order, but I went along to watch Daisy last two minutes in the Hall before she descended into numpty barking and had to be removed to give the others a chance of passing!

So “dinner†was at 9.45 pm, and by that time I was not capable of sensible scribblings.

The interview was fine – lasted an hour and a half – no particularly difficult questions, which might be a shame as I tend to interview at my best when I am given difficult questions to answer. So the questions were along the lines “what are you doing now, why do you want to do something different, how do you feel about speaking in front of large/small groups of people, what experience do you have of staff management/appraisal, how would you deal with these particular problems …….†The question on “working from home†came up – so it was great to say “actually I’ve been talking to people who work from home …….†– thanks Fugees. Not a single question on dogs, cats, rabbits, horses, rats or mice though. Probably just as well!

So, I know they had had a lot of interest, and called four for interview. They have asked if I would be available to start between 1st June and 1st July. (“YESâ€) and asked which one of the two references offered I would like them to take up – they’re asking all of us this by the way. I dithered badly at this point, but plumped for my non-work reference so as not to queer my pitch at work if I didn’t get the job – and they really didn’t seem to mind which one I offered.

Results of interview will be known in three weeks ……………………

Thanks for all your support :)

  6. Thanks for all the replies folks. You touched on things I had thought of and brought up a few that hadn't crossed my mind.

I've just been scribbling down the main points in my notebook as a reminder for me to look through tomorrow as I head off for interview.

Assuming the question comes up - but it does seem an obvious one to me!

  7. Well, as it says on the bottle (or in the title) I have an interview tomorrow for a job I would really like.

All sorts of things going for it as far as I'm concerned - and as Fugees are always an astute bunch, the fact that a couple of my recent topics have requested information on "working from home" and "have you heard of the National Women's Register" may lead to a lack of surprise to find it's an interview for a job with the NWR based at home!

So, tomorrow sees me wending my way to Birmingham for an interview at 1.30 pm.

The suit has been dry cleaned, shoes polished, paperwork packed into a briefcase.

Just off to check out my train times again.

And to work out how to convince my OH that a bit of a drop in salary ('cause it's part time!) when prices of stuff are going up all around us, is a small price to pay for some sanity in my working life.

  8. I am finding all your replies v-e-r-y interesting. And helpful.

They say NWR is for "lively minded women" .................. who I can see would probably not enthuse about discussing the price of mince!

And there was me thinking the Refuge was full of "lively minded women". :)

  9. So, I'm after more intellectual information from the all-knowing Fugees.

I kind of have the impression that some of you are "home based" workers.

I can guess at some of the distractions that can occur if you work from home .......................... however, if you were going to an interview for a home based job, and they asked for your views on what you consider to be any problems/benefits of working from home, what would you say?

  10. I will explain why when I have more time, but I need to do some research for something that's happening in just over a week's time.

I would be very interested to know/it would be helpful if anyone can tell me if they've heard of (or even belong to!) NWR - otherwise known as the National Women's Register, and previously known as the National Housewive's Register.

I promise there will be no sinister follow up questions!

This could practically become an RMF topic on it's own I suspect.

  11. Just been searching for views here on vacuum cleaners - as ours is pretty ineffectual at collecting all the dog (and human hairs) that accumulate on the floor here.

Straw poll seems to be with the Miele.

However, I was wondering if anyone would like to comment favourably or otherwise on whether it is still OK if your hoovering episodes are, erm, less frequent than they probably should be with three hairy monsters around?

Let's just say a once a week vacuuming is good going in my house. I'm trying to be better, but if I'm working at the weekend, it all goes even sloppier than usual on the housework front!

  12. We have snow. Good proper covering snow, although it's falling off the trees already.

I'm very excited 'cause Daisy's never seen "proper" snow while she's lived here.

And I'm also excited 'cause actually I don't have to go anywhere today, so don't have to worry about travelling at all.

:worried_anim: for those who have to go out today.

Report so far, Tigger trotted off to do his normal investigations this morning, and Daisy said "WHAT" - if you think I'm brave enough to go off the kitchen doorstep when someone's put something weird and strange in my garden you have another think coming.

Once Daisy was persuaded, she decided it was play time and has been romping around the garden playing March hares with Tigger. :)

  13. Yesterday my coach to Crufts was cancelled. :mecry: They had a whole four people booked - and the price included admission and was really good.

However, lots of folks were really nice, kind and helpful and I now have a lift. :flowers: 6.30 am which is quite a civilised hour, so hopefully I'll see you there. And my lift is taking me and a dog, and so has l-o-a-d-s of room for my shopping.

Will probably be wearing a Wiccaweys polo shirt - which might even be my "Mrs B" one.

Will try to make it to the PAT stand .......... if anyone could out up the Hall reference when they had it, that would be good. Otherwise I'll find it.

    Now I'm excited again.

  14. I now confess that we were away last week (so no weigh in).

I wasn’t completely bad, but we did have one or two meals out , a cooked breakfast or two, a milky drink one night and there was a lot of home made cakes travelled with us ………. and less came back! But I was still fairly disciplined

However, I came back thinking “maybe a little gain, but hopefully I can at least be near what I was before I went on holiday in time for my weigh in this Friday.â€

That was Sunday, but now I’m having a really bad non-healthy eating week, and while I think some could see this as an excuse, I’ve a feeling it has much to do with being back at work yesterday. Nuff said!

However, I need to get my act together, brain in gear, motivate myself again, give myself a good shaking and start thinking positive (and throw that empty crisp packet that’s on my desk in the bin!)

So, I can’t let myself, or Mrs HGLS down, so someone had better help me sort myself out before Friday!

Meantime, talking of Mrs HGLS, I’ve been reading what you’ve been overhearing your work colleague say. Now listen carefully – they’re not worth it! How do YOU feel? It’s quite obvious that before they expressed thei r ninny opinions via their big mouths, that you were feeling good about yourself, and how you looked, and what you had achieved – and that is worth much more than someone else’s ill-informed opinion that’s for sure.

Whose opinion do you value anyway at the end of the day? And what are they saying about you?

Hoping that you’ll be there on the day I’m going to Crufts so I can check out the slim-line Sam that I’ve been hearing so much about.

    So there!
