  1. As she had quite a big op within the last three months, I would have her checked over. If she is sore for any reason it would explain her shying away from being touched.

It does sound as though she is starting to come round (you said she allowed stroking recently, albeit briefly) so she may just need a little more time. On saying that, play can be a great ally. If she is toy orientated (particularly playing fetch) a gentle, brief stroke before re-throwing the toy and gradually building up her confidence that way can work wonders.

  3. I didn't see a spoilt girl having a tantrum. I saw a very nervous girl, who realized she was making mistakes in her performance, which made her loose all confidence in herself for a moment, and beg for a second chance.

I agree with you. The youngster is 10 years old for heavens sake.

If they are going to let youngsters eenter the show (which, in my opinion is a mistake) then they have to accommodate them in any way they can.

To be honest, after watching the show last night, the only semblence of any sort of talent was put through to the final. Greg Pritchard, who I liked in the heats was very, very disappointing - so out of tune it was embarrassing to watch him.

  4. I hadn't really planned on going on a diet despite being a good 2 and a half to three stone overweight, but then other half was diagnosed with diabetes just before Christmas. He was three stone overweight and something had to be done. Together (for morale support) we changed out diet to three meals a day. Low carb and low fat. Started New Years Day and, to date, hubby has lost over two stone and I've lost just over one and a half. It's been quite easy to be honest, but without that diagnosis, which seemed like a death sentence at the time with all of the dire warnings that went with it, I doubt we'd have done anything. So, in a way, diabetes has been life changing in a good way. I can't remember the last time either of us felt fitter than we do now :)

    Every cloud, as they say.

ETA: Hubbies blood count has also dropped so for the foreseeable future there's no need for him to go on meds.

  5. Sorry, Kathy, only just caught up with this.

First thing is to get rid of the guilt! We all feel guilt when our dogs are unwell because we all want that elusive magic wand that makes everything alright again. That's got nothing to do with money, that's to do with our own fears and inner turmoil.

I've got everything firmly crossed and sending loads of positive thoughts so adding those to all the others that are winging their way through will hopefully help her.

Thinking of you all today and willing a positive outcome :GroupHug: :GroupHug:

  6. Of course, if the job turns out to be the same one that Tempest is holding interviews for, just think how impressed she would be if you did a presentation based on a murder mystery night involving the local amateur dramatic society. Great proof that you are good at taking on and using ideas :) .

It sounds as though the presentation will be looking more for a mini-business plan type of presentation to show how good you would be at turning a profit rather than the event itself.

Good luck with the interview and good luck with the interviewing both of you.

  7. I had a laptop from Currys which was continually breaking down. The ruling that they have (and as PC World is the same company I imagine theirs is the same) is that if the repairs extend beyond 28 days they have to replace the laptop - in my case, I got a refund. The repair isn't one single repair, but any repeated repairs for the same problem. Log everything with dates so that you can prove you aren't deliberately delaying getting the machine fixed to get it to go over the 28 days and once you get there ring them and also write to them to state the problems (with all your logged information)asking for a refund under their 28 day ruling.

Unfortunately, you are batting your head against a brick wall until you reach that point. Believe me, I know!!

  8. I must be very strange because I quite enjoyed it. Some good points made on inappropriate handling and training from the judges and a couple of good examples of how the unexpected can happen when push comes to shove :)

The husky was having a lovely game and, far from being afraid of the handler, was showing typical play behaviour - chase me! chase me!

Don't like Tara wotsit, but she proved a minor irritation with what I found to be an entertaining couple of hours of easy watching (with the odd chance to chat to the TV when I didn't agree with the marks :) )

Any platform that encourages getting dogs out of rescue centres and into homes can't be all bad :)

  9. Those enchanting blue eyes of hers are going to have her dad locking her in her bedroom from the minute she hits her teens until she's at least 32 :) :)

I hope the bad times are easing for you all Wendy and that memories now bring smiles not tears.

  10. How to accommodate the different learning styles.

Schemes of work and lesson plans

How you would monitor students' progress

Type of mediums you will use to teach the subject (powerpoints seem to be very much in favour with many uni's and colleges, but you might need to check out what IT systems are in place at the centre)

How you would cope with problems

How you would keep the lesson on track if you get a couple of chatty students in that tend to disrupt by taking the topic off course

  11. My thoughts are with you all, Wendy.

Frodo had an incredible life journey. Lots of ups and downs for you all, but what always shone through was the love you all shared.

Run free handsome boy. A star shines extra bright in the sky

  12. So having a whole heap of what appeared to be armed response police in the middle of the night was preferable to one or two knocking the door and asking to see the dog ?

If he is a drug dealer he would have shown them very quickly rather than risk getting raided.

I enjoyed watching the dogs work whom showed themselves to be professional but found the officers showed themselves in possibly not the best light.

Sounds reasonable until you realise that any and all drugs would have been disposed of before answering the door??

  13. Unless things have drastically changed, gas/electricity companies can request that Debt Collection Agencies halt their process if an account is in dispute.

The forms you were sent wanting to know the ins and outs of your finances are standard. Once returned, usually minimum payment is set which, four or five years ago, was £2.64 per month if you proved you were on benefits. The 'collections' department of the gas/electricity company will suggest all sorts of stupidity like getting rid of your phone so that you can save money and pay them more, but tell them you need it for emergencies (sick relative does the trick). Remember, these guys are paid to get the maximum monthly payment they can from you.

Citizens Advice and Energywatch carry weight and can get things sorted out.

Estimated meter readings that are incorrect are deemed to be the fault of the customer, not the company since they are put onto the bills that are sent out - theory being that you are supposed to check them. Since privatisation of the industries, meter readings are less frequent and meters can go unread for 2 years without any wrongdoing on the company's part. Direct Debit payments set too low are deemed to be the customer's fault, the theory being that bills are sent out and the rising level of debt should have alerted the customer to contact the company.

I've never had a problem with NPower. I did work in customer services for three gas/electric companies (at the same time - customer services covered all three).

Do not let Bailiffs enter your property - don't even open the door to them.

There are usually quite a few threats before things go to court, so try not to stress out too much, but do go to CAB and Energywatch and stress the urgency - they should be able to help you get things sorted
