jazz please dont give a stuff about what people say you did the right thing particularly if nesty did have a tumour. having lost a dog to brain tumour myself last year after making the same decision as you i wouldnt hesitate to do the same again
luckily my bullseye lost his sight almost overnight which then led to diagnosis reasonably early (woke up one morning and his eyes were bulging out of their sockets because of the pressure) tho he had been acting a little odd for a few weeks i had put it down to senility
Brain tumour is a very painful and very scary illness for a dog and they cant tell us whats up.
Please take comfort in the fact that you put nestys needs above your own, so many people dont

Im a bit of a secret fish fiend and keep currently three tanks (soon to be more)as well as koi carp in a pond in the garden.
A lot of my fish are rescued but i also have some rarer fish that im hoping will reproduce to help keep them from extinction.
So does anyone else keep fish or am i the only closet fugee fishkeeper

before i looked i was certain that it would be a staffie but collie up a tree yep can see how that happened -
Our little man came to us aged just five weeks suffering from cerebellar ataxia hyperplasia a brain defect that had left him unable to co ordinate or to walk, drink or eat unaided.
Its been a long hard slog with trials of new drugs to improve his capabilities as well as ttouch by auntie Rachel and physio done at home, but we have reached a milestone that very few dogs suffering his condition reach two years old tomorrow
Pickle is still unable to walk unaided ( but his new adult wheels are being designed and engineered)but he can now co ordinate enough to get where he needs to, to eat unaided, and to play rugby with his fave mini rugby ball
drinking can be hazardous as CAH dogs are prone to inhalation pnuemonia but we have got around this and he hasnt had a drink for almost a year much preferring to crunch ice cubes regularly.Im so proud of our boy i could burst and hes gonna have the best birthday ever tomorrow.
Many thanks to Professor Erica Gibson from the Animal Health Trust for giving me the confidence to persevere and to auntie Rachel for her skills at ttouch and to everyone else who has supported us and encouraged us along the way

agree on acp horrible stuff particularly if the animal has alreadygot itself wound up, as lesley says theres no man made drug thats stronger than adrenaline. we use diazepam from vets which takes the edge of the fear without doping them completely.

Why is it that the two remote controls on the bed always end up underneath Bojangles nuts ?
Its a good thing he doesnt bite. He has reached the point of panic every time the phone rings because Im trying to stop sky so I can hear people on the phone.
Dibs has taken to her sick bed. The lurgy has to be something horrendous if it stops her in her tracks.
Ive gone through the various stages and Im now at 24 hour sleep without visting the facilities stage. I have to feel better tommorow because Im test driving a pony that allegedly tries to kill people with his front feet.

Mel had to rush Dennis to the vets this morning and faced the heartbreaking decision to let him go to the bridge
he will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all those who knew him, knew of him, and those who appreciated his art.
my heart goes out to Mel, trev, sam and ellis whose lives he ruled for so long

my neighbours 11 year old dog buddy collapsed in the street an hour ago coming back from his walk and they came running over for me. we got him into hubbys van and rushed him over to my vets who is one of the few these days who do their own call outs, his gums were really pale and scans showed he had an unknown tumour that had burst causing internal bleeding and they have had to let him go to the bridge
please spare some thoughts for his devastated owners ian and valrun free buddy boy

ive been offline for five days due to a fault at virgin media, gawd ive been lost without the internet
you dont realise how much it takes over your life until someone snatches it away 
so having broken the van three times, the car once and 1 dog and a ferret, as well as the internet all in a fortnight. potential visitors should be warned to avoid us if they want to remain intact

my house looks like im preparing for armageddon
i have a living room full of watertight containers and assorted other stuff that we need in order to collect my new fish tank and its contents including fish and then i have to rearrange my huge current tank to look like an amazonian river bed so that the new fish will feel comfy when theyve been quarantined. This will involve much cursing as first i have to catch around 70 baby platies and move them into their growing out tank and boy are they fast -
blinking heck Mel is that for a whole new engine? I supposed the consolation is when it's done you shouldn't need to do anything more enginewise for a few years
Nope its for rockers, valves and a head gasket set as well as a timing belt and pulleys.
The belt wasnt due to be done when it snapped but it looks like the previous owner only changed the belt and not the pulley system as reccomended (obviously cos the belts only 40 quid and the pulleys are 140 quid)and its the pulleys that caused the belt to snap
.We know the importance of changing timing belts on time and checked on the service history when we bought the van which said it had been done cheapskating bar stewards

engine damage to our van is standing us at around a thousand pounds so far
and rising

hubbys van just stopped as we were driving into town yesterday and we had to be towed home, turns out the cam belt has snapped and the engines buggered
Hubby has been stripping it down all day and is likely to be rebuilding it all day tomorrow
on the plus side whilst hunting out tools in the shed i found a shiny new nylabone so pickle is ecstatic

a two year old child is in the news currently after being seriously attacked by his grandparents collie and whilst my heart goes out to the poor little lad i could cheerfully slap his mother for the following comment
"i mean you dont expect a collie to attack do you? i mean you expect it of a Staffordshire bull terrier dont you."
No you bloody well dont you should be aware whatever the breed of dog that dogs and children often misunderstand each other, i hesitate to add that staffies are one of only two breeds recommended by the kennel club as good with children as i believe that their "good with kids" tag and the complacency it leads to in owners and parents has contributed to attacks on children by staffies in a "we dont need to supervise cos they are good with kids sort of way" and the view that only bullbreeds bite kids is clearly contributing to attacks by other breeds.
dogs and children use very similar gestures to each other only they mean very different things to each, leading to misunderstandings that result in a bite.
Reports say that the dog in question had not been brought up around kids so why were they at such close quarters.
Supervision, education and common sense are the key to preventing these horrific incidents from happening. When will people learn?
to the poor little boy who is the one who will carry the scars of this for life -

Battersea work with the Met police by choice and some local councils will bring in the police if they feel they have a type dog in their care (pound)
The police will also as always act on complaint so if someone calls them to say i believe such and such (private owner or kennels)has an illegal dog in their possession they will respond as they will do to a report of any criminal offence.
But they do not as a general rule go trolling round rescues looking for possible pit bulls.
If they were to be called out to a rescue then the rescue would have to go forward as owner and provide a designated keeper in order to be able to get the dog registered, technically this means the dog cannot be rehomed to anyone else.
