  1. Thanks for all the replies :flowers: I really hope some of the dogs mentioned find their forever homes soon. I also love Oldies Club Boysie and Emps. Well I love them all really.

Yes Ian it really would be lovely if there weren't too many to list. There are just so many dogs looking for a home :( I do know of quite a few dogs around here who were adopted from rescues though, so that's good :)

  2. My ups and downs (they are me, they make me). My sensitivity, my passion (and sometimes short temper), my sometimes impatience, my love for my husband and my dogs, my photography, my love for all animals, my hair, my quirks. Reiki and chocolate :)

Oh and I admit I'm a control freak, so I'm not sure about that theory

  3. Thank you all :flowers:

He reminds so much of my Sophie - you must be soooo proud :flowers:

I've thought the same about Sophie when I've seen video of her

    That's just absolutely fantastic!!! :partytime:

Having a dog who is socially not the most confident, I know how a seemingly little thing actually is massive progress. Well done Sno  - and you for persevering! :flowers: :flowers:

Thank you - and that's exactly it, if I took a photo of Mins with a child it would just be a cute photo as she loves children and I've made sure she has met lots since we adopted her, but with Sno it was such a special moment  I know he will never be the kind of dog I can take just anywhere but it is lovely to realise his progress :)

  4. Sno has had very little direct contact with children, though he has increasingly got used to "hearing them", either playing at the local school or in nearby gardens when we're out walking. The other day we walked into a field to find two kids headed our way with a remote controlled helicopter type thing and although we didn't get up really close, they did fly it a few times and I was very pleased that he wasn't bothered by either the kids or the noise/movement of the toy.

Yesterday we bumped into a lady with her daughter and a few dogs so we stopped for a chat. I was watching Sno carefully to make sure that he wasn't scared of the girl but she thought he was lovely and he seemed to return the feeling, he was very happy to be stroked by her - and she was a lovely kid and obviously very good around dogs.

I was so pleased I asked the mother if I could take a few photos and she was very happy for me to do that, so here they are, of the two of them posing together, having met just a few minutes before

I just love this one   Believe me he was feeling exceptionally comfortable with her to do that

I was so over the moon with him and was almost in tears as we said goodbye

Must also give Mins some credit as I am sure she has helped boost his (and my) confidence

  5. RMF my left(face)cheek hurts when I blow my nose, tis odd and as I have a face full of snot, bluddy annoying.

    NN

Might be sinus problems, I had a sinus infection last year which was blimmin agony and had me in tears in pain and I ended up on ABs which is most unusual for me. Hope it is is less hurty soon :GroupHug:

:wavey: I am back from Bath. Sorry I couldn't arrange to meet up with anyone :flowers: Didn't arrive until Saturday afternoon and really needed to spend Sunday with my brother (who hates dogs!). He chucked us out this morning as he was going to work so we went to Longleat for the day which was fab apart from a bit of an accident when I threw a fish at a random bloke instead of the sealion

   I nearly choked laughing at that. OMG. Please tell me someone was recording it on video at the time?!! Sorry you weren't around long enough to meet up, let us know if you're ever down this way again :flowers:

  6. Where do you live? I think I need to move there!

Tess is in a right state again this evening. We have had some really loud fireworks going off tonight and I fear that this is going to continue long into November. sad01_anim.gif

I know that I sound like a real kill joy, but why do people feel like it's necessary to drag these things out for so long? It used to be firework NIGHT, now it's a two month ritual of non-stop explosions!

In Wilts, but I think it's partly where we are now, as we lived about a five minute drive away in our last house and while I don't recall how bad fireworks were there as we didn't have Sno then, I suspect things would be much worse that way as there are so many houses and no fields nearby. Whereas here there are far less houses and plenty of fields, so aside from traffic it's pretty quiet. On the flip side there does tend to be a fair amount of shooting but thankfully nothing close enough to freak him out generally on walks.

I also think last year's noise was possibly better than it had been and wondered if the recession was responsible for that, so I'm hoping it might be quieter again this year. We do certainly get a lot going off nearby for a few nights and then the rest get used up, but I know others face them for weeks and weeks on end :(

I don't think you'll find many if any people disagreeing with you here Laura :flowers: I think most people could accept a few nights a year at organised displays, for whatever celebration is taking place, it's the going on for days/weeks on end and never knowing when they're going off. I never take Sno out after dark and I try to get him out for toilets before it gets dark, but then you have to wait until it's really late for the next toilet break as I do worry how he'll be if one goes off really close by and he's outside :(

  7. Erm did you notice the smell before or after the sideboard arrived Alex?

    Hello Katie & Missy :wavey:

Victoria, hope the poor black Lab finds her way home safely. Blimmin people that let their dogs get out easily/run loose like that drive me mad :( Especially when they are rude to you if you try to help the dog :(

We have been further planning the festival today with our fab organising person. Took Mins, who decided to have a poo on their carpet  She has never done that in anyone's house before. I think she got a bit confused as they are doing building work so there was lots of rubble around in the room and she's normally very good here and in other people's houses. Thankfully they have a dog of their own and weren't annoyed  We are currently deciding whereabouts in the field(s) the stages, stalls, parking, camping etc. should go. It's all rather exciting, scary but exciting. A few people are travelling from the US for it, how cool :)

  8. No need to apologise :flowers: I was trying to offer possible solutions for others so possibly didn't make the severity of his fear clear. I feel for any animal (and their people) at this time of year as it is horrid to see them so scared. He does have times of nothing being able to "reach" him, at which point I generally hold him, but I think we have made progress each year if I look back. I do think his "recovery time" has improved quite considerably since we adopted him, in terms of fireworks, stuff out on walks etc. and he has definitely gained in confidence over the years which is wonderful, though he will never be the "dog you can take everywhere", bless him. He's very happy with his quiet life

I hate seeing him so frightened, I have heard of dogs fitting in fear of fireworks and I can fully see why it happens when they get so scared, it has been a worry of mine for him at times. I am very grateful to live here though because in comparison to others we seem to get off lightly. I'm really not sure what we would do if they were going off for weeks/months on end. It does make me think, if we ever move from here, he will have to be a serious consideration as to where we end up!
