  1. Laura, I just feel sickened by what those boys were doing to that poor dog :mecry: What kind of an upbringing does someone have to want to do that to an animal (well to anyone, people throw fireworks at other people too don't they). I wonder what happened to the dog :( Good on the police officers.

Very glad your friend's GSD was caught safely Phebe. It is so awful to think of all the animals that go missing/get hurt because of fireworks :(

I am feeling extremely fortunate, having read through others' experiences in recent days. After the few we had the other day it's been very quiet. Rob said there were a few last night but he heard them when he was upstairs; thankfully the noise downstairs must have drowned them out as I didn't hear them and Sno definitely didn't.

Not looking forward to later on this week, but feeling rather grateful right now.

  2. Morning. Just. We've been struck by the Bad Weather Fairy too :(

Im having a hellish time trying to get hold of an owner with a query about her ambull bitch. She is either coming into season or has an infection starting. I dont know if she is spayed and vets dont know either as she came from rescue and no records of it. I cant risk not getting her checked over incase its an infection or pyometra, but if its just a season i guess i will look like a right muppet at the vets  She is not swollen at all, but nor is she out of sorts in any way. guess i shall have to look like a muppet

Bit of a late response, but hope the dog is ok and it isn't pyometra :flowers:

    Roll on Bonfire night

God I'm dreading it :( There will be one extremely freaked out dog here and it's horrible :mecry:

im off to wales in half an hour. I might take pictures of the stinky puppie we are picking up

    You're getting a puppy?

  3. There are a few Vizsla around here, including the wirehaired one I photographed previously.

We were talking to another dog walker recently when a Vizlsla dog appeared at the edge of the field - the guy said it was "a Polish Pointer or something like that", did make me laugh .

We've been remembering Rob's granddad today as it was about a year since he passed away, so we had a walk in the forest with family and went for a coffee. Still feels very much as though he is around, it really doesn't feel as though he has gone

  4. :GroupHug: for those that need them.

After the ones that went off in daylight  things went quiet and we've had a peaceful evening. I know we are very "lucky" where we live, compared to many. I guess even in this recession some still have money to burn though - literally.

    Wishing everyone a peaceful-as-possible-weekend :flowers:

  5. Thanks Ange :GroupHug: I am having good days and bad days, but mostly inbetweeny ones. I am finding it hard to do the self Reiki at the mo, but can still send (odd??) and am starting to learn EFT to see if I can master that. Mostly I am being quiet and getting on, if you know what I mean.

Taking my dogs off for a cuddle now xx

Keep self-treating anyway, even if you don't feel it, I bet it will be helping :flowers: EFT is meant to be very good, always mean to give that a go. Take care :GroupHug:

  6. A woman in the waiting room suggested that I put her in the waggiest tail class at the fun day a week Saturday  Said woman had three children with her, the two older ones (about 7 or 8ish at a guess) were very polite and asked if they could stroke her. I said they could, as she looked comfortable enough with them, so they gently stroked her while she wriggled, but when the youngest child came towards her she started to look uncomfortable so the mum told the kids to stop. It was nice to meet such well behaved children, such a sensible dog-centric mum and I was very proud of Milly cos usually she's very scared of kids of any age

    Milly

Continuing to send Reiki and I know others are too :GroupHug:

  7. Still I am grateful that they've not been going on for weeks as they have for others. Thankfully we got back to the dogs just minutes before they went off (it was still light mind) but poor Sno was shaking :( He's been dosed up, have persuaded him out for a wee with the promise of a fish bones treat and he's now gone to his crate (and is now helping daddy cook dinner). I leave him be if he's not in a blind panic.

I think what some people don't realise is, that it's not just the immediate effect/reaction, but that for days and weeks afterwards it can be difficult to get your dog to go out into their own garden for the loo, that you have to be careful not to be out after dark (or earlier seemingly ), that you have to be careful what time you walk the dog etc. Why oh why can't they be available for public displays only.

Thinking of all those animals who are scared and their people :GroupHug:

  8. Poor cats, but yes hopefully the fact they are cute kittens and have been publicised in a national paper will mean they are now safe. Shame the same can't happen for all the other animals waiting on death row.

I don't know why I read the comments under these things though. They just make me want to shoot people

  9. I'm not sure the RSPCA would be able to do anything (not that they don't care but I don't think there's any legal restriction on how long you can leave a dog as I remember someone checking over a puppy). They do have company at least and shelter - but I would worry about how their staffie coats will cope with the cold weather if this is a long-term plan.

Have you had a chance to chat with the woman? Who knows what has led her to this, perhaps while it's not ideal, she's doing the very best she can for the dogs right now and would be grateful for some support/offer of help if you're able? Am guessing you are home all day to know that she is leaving them unattended all this time and not coming back at lunchtime, so could you offer, as others have suggested, to go in and see them?

I know you shouldn't have to but if they're friendly dogs and the woman said yes, it might be better for all involved, you included, if you could help? :flowers: You might find out why they are outside and hopefully you'd be able to better judge the situation before doing anything further?

Plenty of people seem to go out and crate their dog during the day, or leave them in a small room, with a break for lunch. At least these two have a bit more space than a crate and they have each other for company. As long as she's not leaving them out there 24/7 and she's giving them her time and attention when she is home and she's usually leaving them 7 rather than 13 hours a day(?) ...

It's good that you care and are watching out for them :flowers: and I wouldn't want to leave my own dogs in that situation, nor approve a home that did, so don't think I'm saying this is ideal, I suppose I'm just thinking she might have a valid reason for it.

p.s. lovely to hear you have adopted a new doggie friend - have we had an introduction thread?

  10. Thank you :flowers: He does indeed have a lovely grin when he's happy

I sent the photos to one of his "mums" in rescue (who got demoted to Auntie when I adopted him ) - it was her I had in mind when I asked if I could take the photos - and she is very proud of him too

  11. Hello, welcome to the Refuge :flowers:

A lot of people use http://www.photobucket.com to host their photos - if you can work out how to upload them to that from your computer, you just need to copy the IMG code from the photo in photobucket and paste it into your reply box on here. Good size for forum photos is about 640x480. Sorry if this sounds like a different language!
