  1. He is a numpty and he seems to have some numpty supporters judging by some of the comments under the article.

I am not sure where Labs feature on the list of bite stats Kathy, but if they do feature near the top, I guess that may well be in part at least due to the fact that there are so many of them. They are the most popular dog by miles - something like 47,000 puppies registered with the KC in the UK last year, with around the same number thought to be born and not KC registered.

How do these people that want to ban bullbreeds just not get that the problem is with people and not dogs?

  2. We don't have a close relationship with any of the vets at our usual practice as there are now quite a few of them and we generally don't see the same one. However the receptionists are generally very nice and mostly the vets are too, even though I do tend to have lots of questions for them.

When we had to have Sweetie pts they were great, we asked for a home visit for the pts and then a private cremation and money was definitely not the priority for them. We didn't have to pay until we went in to pick up her ashes so that was all handled very compassionately and without pressure to pay.

Things are very different with our holistic vet, probably in some ways because we're on the same wavelength.

  3. Does the third party insurance cover multiple dogs or only one?

Mel said up to ten dogs :flowers:

following on from my liabilty insurance thread i thought it worth a mention that if you are a member (costing £20.00 a year)you get inclusive third party liability insurance for up to ten dogs free.

  4. But what use is it if only 25% of puppies are successfully immunised ? I'm sure they CAN be vaccinated, but the question to my mind is should they. I can see the need in some cases, but in a normal healthy pup going into a home enviroment (which is the case in the two I've heard off )I don't get it.

    Me neither.

If I were to have my cynical head on I'd possibly see it as another way of money making for the vaccination company/vets (if they are advocating three sets of vaccines), bit like when they opt to vaccinate a sick/very old animal.

Mins had her puppy vaccinations at eight weeks (in the rescue's care) and we took her for the second one at around ten weeks. I wouldn't have wanted her vaccinated at six weeks but I did get her out and about from the day after she came home.

We made sure she met everyone possible that came to the house and introduced her to everyone we could outside. Having had two undersocialised dogs it was very important to me that she be well socialised, that was a big priority. I did carry her around until after the second vax but had she been bigger and heavier I might have been less inclined

  5. That's a real shame Victoria :(

We had to miss a Jimmy Carr show last year because Sno was poorly and I couldn't face leaving him. I realise missing Jimmy Carr might seem like a good thing to some  but I love him.

Mags, hope you get the wedding singer sorted - are you trying to book John & Edward? <ducks>

I am wearing my remembrance day poppy hairslide from a Folksy seller. I was worried the poppy I bought would get lost/fall off and then I saw these hair slides, with 50% going to the Royal British Legion.

  6. Saw this link on facebook earlier:

    Article on Times Online today:

    http://www.timesonli...icle6898663.ece

The article is by Kit Malthouse, a member of the London Assembly and Deputy Mayor for Policing in London, which makes it worrying indeed.

Apparently Kit's email address is [email protected] if anyone wishes to email him. I shall be writing when I've calmed down enough.

It amazes me that so much emphasis is placed on the dog - do these people think if all dogs were banned the delightful characters that use dogs as "weapons" would become model citizens overnight? Why can't they see that humans are at fault here, whatever way you approach things.

In the meantime, loving pets are taken from good owners and other dogs suffer abuse at the hands of those who should never be allowed a dog :mecry:

  7. I don't find J&E entertaining at all, I just think they're awful and I think it's dreadful that they are still on the show when Rachel, who has a wonderful voice, was voted off. How insulting to her. Though I hope it does her career good in the long run.

  8. I'm really not sure what to say other than what has been said already.

Have you actually spoken to the owner yourself? That's not clear to me from your posts.

I think if you are concerned about the dogs' welfare and the fact that you know now that at least one of them can get out of their cage - and that you have a hole in your fence - then you need to talk to the owner and try to resolve things. Maybe if you get talking and she mentions she's bred in the past, you could let her know how many staffie types face pts each day

If you don't have any success/are still concerned about the dogs' welfare, then perhaps a chat with the RSPCA is your next option. Though I don't know that they would even come out, given from what you have said, the dogs appear to be in good condition, have shelter, water and are presumably fed regularly. Maybe if the shelter is not adequate for the cold weather they can advise her on that :flowers: I don't know if the dog warden would be able to help in this situation.

And don't think people on here don't care about dogs because that is so far removed from the truth :)

    Any body watch cesar milan?????.

Only when I need to remind myself what an absolute twit I think he is and how he should never be let near a dog.

  9. Arrrgh, who got knocked out?

Rachel. Disgusting since she has such a fantastic voice but hopefully this will set her on a wonderful career.

Who on earth is voting for the twins, there's a hell of a lot of boo-ing in the audience for them.

  10. mecry.gif Wow i thought this was a friendly dog site, sorry but some comments are abit hurt full (lester).

Only if your were living here maybe you would understand abit more, So what your saying then its better to have dogs caged up for hours on end just to keep you happy and that it doesnt matter about their mental statemecry.gif .

Im sorry but this isnt what i call good dog ownership, most dog rescue centres say left for up to 4hours.

I will learn to keep my nose out them even if they are cold and wet.

I cant help this lady out, she does have a bloke that stays weekends, i think his a long distance lorry driver.

Im home all the time because of illness.

Im sorry i care so much for dogs and sorry i thought this was a nice site.

I am sad that you have that opinion of this forum, I do think some of your comments are unfair. If you read the forums regularly it will become apparent that members care very much for all animals :flowers:

I'm not sure anyone on here would leave their dogs in a kennel/run area outside or that they they would place a dog into a similar situation, but we don't know why the woman has come to build this outdoor kennel/run area for her dogs.

Have you spoken to her and had the chance to find out a bit more about her and the dogs and why they are kept outside? Are the dogs inside with her before and after work? Does she spend her free time with the dogs? It doesn't sound as though they are kenneled 24/7?

You're right, many rescues do say a dog shouldn't be left for more than 4 hours - but some of these rescues will also be a bit flexible when a dog needs a good and suitable home - and these dogs do have each other for company, which many dogs left during the day, don't.

I'm very fortunate that my dogs have someone around the vast majority of the time these days, but it wasn't always that way and we got our second dog mainly because I wanted my first dog to have company while we were out at work during the day (someone came home at lunchtime but they were left in total longer than this lady is leaving her dogs). Not that they were ever left outside, but they were left longer than many would consider ideal - indeed I was turned down by three different rescues - and I'm sure some people would have thought me selfish for having the dogs.

Maybe if you get to know her a little you could offer some suggestions about how to improve things for them over winter if they are to be kept outside still and you're worried about their shelter/warmth? If you don't have any success there and are still concerned about the shelter, then that might be the best option for reporting her, but I would look to find out more before resorting to that :flowers:

I hope you will stick around, because this is a place that cares a great deal about the welfare of animals :)

  11. :GroupHug: Jules :GroupHug: It is normal for you to feel this way but that doesn't make it any easier does it :(

I think if you want to do something to take your mind off your grief for a while, do it, but do let yourself grieve too :GroupHug: I think when you have put so much love and time into caring for someone, it feels very empty when they have gone.

I took homeopathic Ignatia before and after we lost Sweetie, to try to help a little with the grief.

  12. thanks Ange. The ambull had been spayed thank god, as we worked out from paperwork that was with her she had been rehomed with her son, and both had been neutered by the RSPCA. Holding the end with the teeth while a vet has her hand up a dogs flue is a bit concerning, though she was a delight throughout the examination. Vet thinks she just has a bladder infection as she seems happy enough in herself and eating and drinking well enough, so anti biotics at the ready. Owners finally got the message at 6pm so rang but were happy enough with what we had done up till then. It can be a tad stressy having 50 or so dogs to look after at times

Phew, very glad that she is ok :flowers: It must be very stressful having to deal with illness in someone else's dog :(

Tis very windy and rainy here, so glad we organised our family thing for yesterday and not today!

  13. Poor boy, so glad that he has wonderful people helping him :flowers:

You could notify Doglost of a dog found:

    http://www.doglost.co.uk

I can't see any dogs on there reported as missing from the north west, which resemble your description, but they could list him as found in case his owners make contact.

Really hope he has a loving family out looking for him, please keep us updated :)
