  2. I think pet insurance is a really difficult decision - or it has been for me any way. My cocker and springer have been insured from pups however as i never submitted a claim for either of them i cancelled the insurance last year. The intention was to start a vet fund. Stupidly I failed as there was always some expense cropping up. I also have a springer - Meg - who is ex rescue and she came with a mammary tumour - hence insurance wouldnt cover her for that so vet fund would be started for her............. Since cancelling the insurance all bar one of the dogs has had veterinary treatment and thats when you realise itt aint cheap and whilst i will always pay for treatment etc i dread to think how much i have paid in the past year. My cocker is currently being investigated for auto immune disease.........the vets are really unsure what is wrong with her and originally thought she may have a fungal infection, nasal polyps / tumour. The initial xray alone cost £120 never mind the ongoing medication / treatment to try to keep her comfortable. In hindsight i wish i had kept the insurance going with peace of mind for me and my dogs.
  3. Another recommendation for Bretton Country park Boarding kennels. Its not the poshest but he does care for the dogs, and mine have always come home very happy!
  4. Mmmmmmmmmmmmm...................... I am a midwife and also a dreaded manager. I am only speaking for my area but our midwives will see ladies from 8+ pregnant. After taking an assessment of the pregnancy and taking bloods for blood group etc a scan appointment is made at our hospital for 12 weeks, then at 16 weeks seen in community for screening bloods but always an abdominal palpation and checking of the babies heart beat/urine test/blood pressure asessed as well as chatting to the mum to be. At 20 weeks back to the hospital for a scan to check the baby is developing ok, then dependant on mum seen at 24/ 28 /32 /36/38 /39 /40 /41 weeks . Open appointments and contact numbers are given for community midwives and hospital if any worries etc. We dont always get it right but its important to have a personal service and to listen to mums worries / concerns etc. Our service is changing but we still need to give a quality maternity service even if for people like myself that makes you unpopular! Good luck
