If he's not enjoying it, then removing him from the environment isn't going to teach him it's a good thing to do

 

Have you seen 'Click to Calm by Emma Parsons - I'd be inclined to use those sorts of techniques to get calmness from your boy....

Missy has been training properly for 6 weeks now, following a break of 3 years after training initially for about 6 months. She's the ESS, the other two are her bf - Cree (but he's only her bf because he can run faster than her and doesn't get snapped at) and Red, the trainers old dog whose arthritic, but still likes a little run at the end of class.

 

She's just done her first off lead weaves in both directions, and has been seen sneaking back and doing them by herself when I wasn't looking (I do know this is disqualification in the ring, but I'm not 'built' for agilty myself, so I doubt we'll be competing)

I'm so glad you were able to post this. Sproggie and I have been discussing the similarities between Meg and my own Bonnie,and having seen this tribute, I can see lots more similarities, even down to the 'squiggles and wiggles' on the settee and the boingy bounce when she's done something silly (Bonnie didn't fall in ponds though - she hurls herslef into them)

Could you make a recording of the box noise and play it on 'repeat' over and over and over again, very quietly to start with, whenever she's doing something she really enjoys, such as eating or playing? Fireworks and thunder could be takled the same way with commercially available recordings....

My first dog suddenly lost his wag - vet said he'd probably bashed it and the resulting bruise made it painful - it was wagging about 48 hours or so later. Nowadays I'd probably give my dog Arnica for a day or two...

For many dogs, 'excercise' is just a means to an end, and not something they actively seek out - they don't just run for the sake of running - but to chase or retreive or simply to get there quicker, so running round and round a la circus pony just won't do it Does she chase a ball? Do you have somebody who would come out with you and practise recalling between you?

Don't worry too much - my dear old boy, long since gone over the Bridge, but not due to any warty things, had something similar on the side of his face - it would bleed when he scratched it and the vet removed it with no problems following its removal.

My ESS was the original 'I can't do that, I don't know how, and you might not like it' dog - until she met 'the box' as described by JoC - it opened her up to so many possibilities and she really adores training now.

I'm Fran, I run Puppy School classes here in Milton Keynes. I am owned by Missy a 6 year old ESS rescue and Bonnie a 13 year old 'Sprollie'

 

I also live with Big Dave, and our two sons, one whose 10 (and will see 11 if he's lucky!) and on whose 8 (and already on 'borrowed time' ;))
