  1. I love my garden, but all Ihave is a large patch of grass, a Silver Birch tree, a banked area with some shrubs - Mahonia, buddleigha (sp?) underplanted with loads and loads of violets.

To the left, running the length of the grass is a line of paving slabs, which I am hoping to get up this year and replace with some slate, interplanted with alpine plants and grasses.

In the mean time, I bought myself 5 Oleaders today (yes, I know they are poisonous), a white, a lemon, a salmon, a red and a pink one. They will go in some nice new self watering pots so I should at least have some colour in my garden this year :)

  2. Hoping something can be done for Ian :GroupHug:

That's a tough one for Ian and his friends and family, sending good strong thoughts.

Makes my silly rant seem very insignificant - but I am going to swing for Big Dave........

We have a 'utility room'and downstairs loo (converted coal hole). There are two switched lights - but I never use the one in the loo as it's lost it's protective cover, so the damp from the tumble drier gets in and shorts it out with a big flash and a bang! He was 'helping' me with decanting the dog food, and decides, despite my warnings, to turn this light on as well. You just know what happened don't you? Yes, the light went flash! Bang! I ended up nearly in tears and apparently it's all my fault because I don't know where the cover is and he doesn't have 'time' to fix it.......

  3. Hope work improves Marge and the felt doglets are lovely

RMF: I offered to baby sit tonight  I have never baby sat before and have zero baby skills! After almost two hours of crying she finally cried herself to sleep. However my nappy changing skills are second to none, it's a lot easier to change a baby than an adult

My nephew used to scream when ever I held him, until I wore the same perfume his Mum wore. After that I was his fav Aunty!

Not heard anything more from the people with the car, not sure if that's good or not

  4. the scuff that is on your car, is it paint off the other car??? if so fear not, go to asda or online and buy some of the mantis shine scratch remover

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Mantis-Scratch-Remover-V19004-JML/dp/B003XRAJ3U

you need 2 cloths and a lot of elbow grease but it does work, we were going to get my dads rear quarter resprayed after he backed into a painted concrete post, after about 3 years i finally got round to sorting it, it took me 2 hours but the panel now looks fab  try it on a small area first, it is non abrasive and not anything like T-CUT. pee's me off when people do stuff like that, hopefully somebody will damage their car for them one day

Thanks for that - the damage to both cars is really minimal (I took photos of their car as experience has taught me you can't always trust other people), but the lady has called me back (I left a note on her windscreen asking her to contact me re an 'incident', so didn't admit guilt). I said I'd rather not take it through insurance companies if possible, and the damage to their car is minimal (2 patches about 2" square on each wheel arch) so i'm hoping my honesty may encourage them to keep it low key.

  5. Hope all goes well for Trude

Oh poo! Driving down a road with a line of parked cars ahead (maybe 10 or more) allowed the on coming traffic to clear them (the parked cars were on my side of the road) then started to pass them, two more vehicles (a red skoda and a green landrover) were waiting (so I thought) for me to clear the parked vehicles, just as i got level with the 2nd last parked car, the waiting traffic started coming towards me!!! Result, 2 teeny scuffs on the parked car, and a bit of popped trim and long silver streak down mine :( If they were in such a rush, why not just mount the pavement on their side? GRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!

  6. For my birthday, I bought a garden shredder. Mr Hazell has had enormous fun with it this afternoon. My chickens are now enjoying scratching around in what it has produced. He's spent hours this past week chopping down dead trees and pruning things. I bet he'll be glad of the rest when he goes back to work tomorrow  I'm not supposed to drive or operate heavy machinery when feeling woozy so he's popped to Sainsburys to buy yummy things for dinner too. He's a star

You are blessed indeed. Next time he pops to Sainsbugs, you can smuggle in the little Chi ;)

  7. Blimey Clare, that's organised

Sorry to hear about Hobo :(

Remembered my saddle today for my lesson  I think someone has missed being ridden, I always worry that he doesn't enjoy schooling, but he was really up for it today. His ears pricked up when he saw his saddle, and he worked really well. When I asked him to canter, he decided that he wanted to gallop

A new instructor has started training on the yard, there is quite a novice rider with a very green 4 year old. My instructor was teaching her originally, but tbh the rider likes to be seen to be 'fashionable' and because this instructor has a laminated poster on the wall, she has ditched my instructor to go with this other one. This other instructor has told her that her horse will never go in an outline unless it is ridden in draw reins :( Draw reins are controversial at the best of times, but I can see them being even more of a disaster in this case. The horse in question will go in an outline, as my instructor has ridden him, and when he understands what you want, he goes nicely, but he is just too green for his owner.

AAAARRGGGGHHHHH!!! Sounds like a disaster waiting to happen :(

  8. No coffee? That's a cruel punishment, what did you do?

I'm off out, yes, me! I heard about a group called Red Hats - for 'ladies of a certain age' who want to meet up with like minded folk - all groups are different, and I am lucky, ours is a very active group with the emphasis on fun (one of the activities is Tobogganing in August)but this morning is just coffee at the local garden centre.

  9. Following on from my success at securing an ad hoc job, and my son's experiences 'poo picking' we have started offering our services to poo pick either on a regular basis (£3 per head per acre per week - so 3 ponies on an acre weekly would be £9 (minimum charge of £5) One offs and initial visit would be charged at a hourly rate of £10 regardless of number of horses grazing the area.

    Does this seem reasonable?

  10. I appear to have got myself a little occasional job. An advert appeared on my local horsey FB group, a lady with a large mare and a pony wanted somebody who could look after them (muck out, turn out, bring in, do hay nets, and feed) while she was away with her employer (a show horse rider) at shows, it's ad hoc, so will suit me fine.

Turns out, she's DIL to the lady #2 son helps with the poo picking.

  11. We've had a couple of these, infact, we're turning it into a game.....

OH is an IT support guy (for the Foreign Office) so he baffles 'em with bullshit, one bloke yesterday ignored all he was saying and continued blindly with his 'script', but when OH asked which of the 10 ( ) comps in the house was the suspect one - the phone was put down.

I had the 'the accident you or somebody in your family had' one a couple of weeks ago. I went along with it, identifying the victim as my son - they wanted to talk to him, so said 'sorry, can't do that' 'When can I call back?' I said there was no point in calling back - as the accident killed him! There was a strangled scream from the woman on the other end, and the line went dead.....

  12. I managed to get an appt to see my Dr this morning. I explained I hadn't taken any anti depressants since mid Dec, and had been experiencing some huge highs and deep lows, but this weekend had the highest of highs - singing out loud in Dunelms and Pets at Home, if I could physically have done it, I'd have been skipping down the road - it was scary with a capital SC...

She thinks I may be bipolar!! I've always been 'up and down', and have been taking anti depressants for nearly 2 years now (not any more) She's going to refer me to the mental health team as a 'soon' rather than 'urgent' case.

Does anyone else have any experience, 'cos I'm a bit scared. My birth father died at a young age of carbon monoxide poisoning - open verdict, in 1964 - I wonder if it's something I've inherited?

  13. Dont see how you've upset/offended anyone, your post made perfect sense to me :flowers:

At least somebody understands me :flowers:

Now I've gone and had a row with OH, which prolly deserves its own thread. Might need some advice on how to find rented accomodation for me, the kids and the dogs etc.
