Jemimap
Hi everyone I have recently taken on pooch number two - Khyra She had a full vet check on Monday evening and is A-OK. She does however have a bald patch either side running along her ribs. It does not seem sore or itchy and the vet is unconcerned - he said it was hormonal. She has been spayed but may have had a phantom pregnancy at some point. She is now being fed Burgess supadog sensitive with a little raw mince and a marrobone (raw) as a treat. I would like to give her something to help her coat grow back but i know very very little about supplements and remedies. Any advice would be appreciated. gooster
Sounds like what our springer used to get - It was seasonal flank alopecia, it fell out and then grew back at the same time every year. We didn't give him anything for it though - just put a coat on him when it was cold

I've seen this a fair bit in boxers. If it's not a breed/hormonal thing, then a Vitamin E supplement might help. Keep her on the Burgess Supapoo, it's fab stuff for dog with allergies. Jemimap
Thanks guys. She's a Rhodesian ridgeback ClazUK, so similar hair to boxers. It will hopefully just come back as she becomes healthier and is fed a better diet - she was being fed table scraps, Bakers and donner kebab meat with only drinking water being from a garden fountain that had detergents in it! Just thought there may be a supplement or something which would help. If it doesn't grow back then i'll just have an excuse to buy lots of pink girlie coats for when the weather turns colder
ClazUK
Try the Vitamin E - one human strength capsule a day - it certainly helps with baldyarsedgreyhounds. The boxers I've seen have seasonal flank alopecia as mentioned by Gooster. I did a search on Google and Ridgebacks DO seem to be affected by it, too. PrincessC
Bilateral symmetrical alopecia is also a common symptom of hypothyroidism
Jemimap
Thanks all I will see how she goes with Vitamin E supplement and keep a close eye on her. My Vet was not at all concerned but i will take her back and ask for some tests if there is no improvement or i notice any other symptoms. Gundogsgalore
Evening Primrose oil, and Vitamin E together would be the best thing.
Muriel
Kelp may help too, it's a good supplement to take anyway, and is great if there's underactive thyroid which is another thing that can cause hair loss/thinning.
