WINNIE

**UPDATED: 16TH JANUARY 2013**

Location: Foster home in Norfolk, UK.

Key Points: Quiet and loving, quirky, home savvy, good with dogs, walks to heel.

Winnie is a 4 year old greyhound girl who sadly had found a home over a year ago but has now come back to us through no fault of her own. She is looking for a forever family to call her own. Winnie is a dainty black girl who has a lovely shiny coat and is in great condition.

~ Personality ~

Generally: Fantastic wee girl, super affectionate, loves people, quirky, endearing.

Winnie is a true little superstar. When she first arrived to us, about 2 years ago, she was really just a shell of a dog. Terribly traumatised by an unknown past, untrusting and scared of her own shadow. Once she entered a foster home, however, Winnie completely flourished and is today completely unrecognisable from the scared little girl she was originally. She has a beautifully strong heart and no one deserves a stable home to call her own more than this little lady.

Winnie loves people and will happily come forward for hugs and lovin. When she greets you, she pushes her head in between your arm and body so that she is in prime position for a good hug. She loooves neck scratches and will share Eskimo kisses with you if you are willing! She is a very sweet, intelligent and lively lady. It doesnt take her long to figure things out. Her little personality is so endearing, and just quirky enough to keep you laughing on a daily basis! She might still have brief moments of fright, for example at a sudden loud noise, but if left think it out for a minute or two she quickly recovers her composure and carries on without further fuss. This girl most definitely loves life now, and is happy in herself.

~ In the Home ~

Generally: Home savvy, housetrained, happiest with canine company, not destructive.

Winnie is very used to living in a home. She is housetrained and ok to be left with canine company. She is quiet as a mouse throughout the night and is not destructive. She can on occasion take to gathering certain objects and piling them in her bed such as slippers, pillow cases and soft toys but she never chews the items. She just likes things to be tidy!

Winnie loves nothing more than coming home from her walk and flopping on the sofa with all 4 paws in the air. She adores her home comforts and is very grateful for a soft sofa to roach out on. Winnie has great manners and sits quietly while waiting to be fed and will start to eat on command. She is used to sharing her space with other dogs and does so without a fuss. When she first entered a home, Winnie learned a huge amount from her canine foster siblings, and she does still very much enjoy having canine company today. We feel she would be happiest in a home with another dog or two to hang out with.

~ Other Animals ~

Generally: Loves other dogs, friendly and polite, not overly playful.

Winnie is well behaved and polite in meeting other dogs. A bit of care may be needed if other small dogs are running around offlead as Winnie can get a bit overexcited, but if everyone is on lead shes very good. She enjoys canine company though she doesnt need to play all day to be happy. She would be a great companion for an older dog who just needs general interaction and a bit of company during the day. She is not cat friendly.

~ Out and About ~

Generally: Walks to heel, can be spooked by loud noises, travels well.

Like most greyhounds, Winnie will not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week once a strong bond has been formed with her new owners.

Winnie is very good when out and about, again vastly improved from the scared little mite she was initially. Sudden loud things such as gunshot or fireworks will frighten her, but she is in general a very well-adjusted hound now. She walks to heel on the lead and travels good in the car.

~ Greyhounds as Pets ~

In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly.

It focuses on rehoming unwanted Irish greyhounds and lurchers, as huge numbers are bred in Ireland each year and homes are few and far between. Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, & microchipped before being adopted (unless stated otherwise).

We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in all corners of the UK. If interested in one of our hounds, please feel free to contact us via the following:
