  1. RMF: I ran a dog show; then a charity gundog day; inbetween we had a relatives funeral; then some dog sitting; and now cat & hen sitting; my little business is manic; work down on the farm started, meaning very early mornings; people to stay; plus gundog training with other people's dogs. And all *stuff* which happened over a ten day period. I have lost half a stone in weight and survived on a diet of coffee, fags and chocolate and it was all bl**dy marvellous. BUT now I'm going to hibernate, get my head down and maybe change my diet and include the odd tin of tomato spaghetti, just like today (ha ha cos that's healthy...not!). Am happy and contented with a slightly addled brain, which is no bad thing. I am lucky in life and love, so it feels today MrsBaK9ing - no that's pants idea:rolleyes:
  2. I organised a fun gundog day this Saturday just gone. We had 23 entrants; three trainers; a load of labradors and a whole lot of fun! Many of those who came were first timers at this gundog lark and it was wonderful to see just how much they and their dogs enjoyed the day. Some of the dogs were very clever indeed but lots kept us entertained for the day with their antics. My favourite moments was watching the working test in the afternoon following the mornings training, whereby loads of dogs would go out to retrieve a dummy but hang a left on their way back and gallop 100 yards or more to the BBQ. And there they waited patiently for their owners to collect them, or rather a cooking sausage to drop lmao! Now who's idea was it to end the day with a BBQ and put it in the same field?! We raised over £600 for Labrador Rescue South East & Central, which is brilliant:biggrin: Got loads of photos, or rather my friend Debs did. They are here if you're interested Charity Gundog Day Photos, and below a few of my faves:flowers: and some possible cheating by Bert and I......
  3. Life has got so busy and has changed so much since I first started posting here. I did try to post a bit more a wee while ago but everything was so slow to load and sometimes my posts wouldn't post and the impatient thing I am, I just went "oh b*gger it" I have noticed so many regulars from old don't post anymore. I'm guessing that's just life. Never noticed any cliques etc, but then I've never been good at noticing such things. I only post regularly on one other forum on labs but even these days I am not nearly as prolific as I used to be. Agree that it seems everyone is on facebook and twitter these days. I joined FB & twitter a few months ago to promote the dog show but find them all really hard work but useful and will probably only ever use such things for dog shows etc rather than personal ramblings. Going back a couple or more years, this forum did a brilliant job at raising £££ for rescue, and I loved it for that, so I think it is great you are considering an auction and I'd be well up for donating/bidding in that. Perhaps other sites such as dogsblog, which I think is excellent and Rescue's own forums etc means there is less of a demand these days for aggregate forums? But then I always did see the refuge more of a place to let of steam for those involved in rescue work; chill; have a laugh; and as a valuable fundraising vehicle rather than anything else.
  4. So glad you're happy. Some photos are up on the website now. Have a few more to upload this morning.
  5. HLGS was lovely to see you and Mark, so lovely. Just wish I had had a bit more time to chat! Well am thrilled to say we raised £2200, which is just brilliant. The money is being split 50/50 between the oldies club and Help for heroes. Thank you so much to all of you who came and had a stall or entered your dog, and hopefully just enjoyed the day as much as we did:wink:
  6. Am thrilled to tell you that the dog show on Sunday raised £2200 for both the Oldies Club and Help for Heroes. Anna and I will get a cheque for £1100 (well actualy it's more like £1104 or something) in the next week, which is the best address to send this to? A HUGE thank you for coming and supporting the event with a stand and also a HUGE thank you to all those who attended and helped raise such a fab amount of money. Makes all the hard work so very worth while ;-) hx
  7. It's happening tomorrow! The weather is forecast to be dry and sunny all day - woo hoo:biggrin: We have Temptation Alley, have a go agility, 2 gundog scurries, fun dog classes, dog demo, Battle of britain memorial flight, great war display team and some nutters in their biplanes who are going to pop 50 balloons in the sky We're next to a lovely thatched country pub but if you can't be *rsed to walk through their back garden we've also got a beer tent and pimms tent onsite, and also tea and cakes. Plus loads of lovely stalls. Come, we promise you a lovely and welcoming fun day out with all money made going to the fab Oldies Club and Help for Heroes:flowers: Look forward to seeing you there, Hx
  8. Good stuff Allie:flowers: I know of plenty dodgy labs and plenty of lovely ones - that's dogs and their owners for you isn't it. Hand on heart, I'd trust my staffies over any of my labs with children any day!
  9. The luckiest dogs for sure Griff. Wow Sam, those photos.... Amazing, amazing job you all do out there. Thank god for Dogstar!
  10. oh the jim jams! Classic....
  11. Don't they just. Just realised by looking at that photo they are sort of the reversed colouring of each other. I feel blessed to have not just one staffy in my life but two This is what the Rescue Remedies thread on him had : His Story: Billy was owned by a lady in her mid seventies from a puppy. He grew up with a terrier companion. He is very submissive by nature and acts as though he has grown up being told off by his canine companion and perhaps his owner also. Very soft centred Staffie. Now neutered, chipped and being vax'd. Billy gets along with everyone and is a cheerful chappie and we would love to see him be a 'cheeky chappie' as you get the feeling he hasn't had too many laughs. Billy got into the habit of jumping over a 4 ' fence and when returned to his owner she didn't want to know. Oh he's always getting out! Well maybe, just maybe, there wasn't much happening for him to keep him at home. She then left him at her local dog pound! and these were the photos that nearly broke my heart!
  12. Thank you everyone, a lot:biggrin: He is such an amazing little boy. I didn't set out to adopt, I missed having two bullies around since Piggy left us and just thought it was a nice thing to do, that is to Foster for a wee while until we were ready to add a new addition to the family, whenever that was, but Piggy from above must've thought him AOK as I feel he comes with her love and approval too Meanwhile, in the woods this morning, he was most confused about the fact that Aggie appeared to lose half her head in a tree
  13. Thank you Well I've failed already ha ha! Have gotten in touch with Rescue Remedies and he's staying, forever. Couldn't bear to be parted. He's fitted in so well with everyone and everything and is clearly very happy, and we luffs him so much already:wub: Can anyone change the title of this thread to 'Our new addition Billy'
  14. I'd quite happilly be up for 6am for views like that and the company of three most gorgeous doggies:wub:
  15. I know I should'nt laugh as it's not at all funny the situation you find yourself in, BUT that is a bleedin good letter!
  16. :wub:He is ADORABLE isn't bullylover. Still waiting:mecry:....
  17. I am so going to FAIL! Billy arrived on Saturday from Rescue Remedies' kennels. He is about 2 yrs old and just about as adorable, well behaved and everything 'good' that you can get in a dog! He's supposed to be here on his holidays following an appeal by RR's to give some of their dogs a break over the Summer from their Kennels BUT we all love him so much already..... He's been brilliant with the cats and chickens running free in the garden. You just tell him to 'leave it' and he does just that - so not right for a 'terrier' lol All of my dogs have been great with him and vice versa. This morning they had a mad dash round the house playing 'tag' for 20mins, it was so lovely to see. Here's some photos of this most gorgeous little man *swoon*
  18. Show Schedule below. So looking forward to seeing some of you there:biggrin:
  19. I can't believe this poor boy is still waiting for his home:(
  20. I cannot thank you all enough for your kind and lovely words. They have meant an awful lot to me. Wish I could find some poignant words myself but they escape me right now. I'm sure one day I will sit here and smile, a lot, with happy thoughts of the little legend that was my Piggy. Lastly a massive thank you to the Oldies Club for all you have done, all that you do and the happy years you gave me with my darling dog.
  21. I can't sleep because I am still crying so much. I lost my darling, irreplaceable, little legend of a dog, Cassie, in the early hours of yesterday morning. She left this world in my arms, at home, by the fire and I feel so incredibly blessed that she did so. Just her and me, the rest of the world had gone to bed. The most amazing ambassador for bullie breeds; the funniest little girl; the most gorgeous temprement; my sweetheart. We were so very lucky to have you. Now go find your original Daddy in the heavens above and together rest in peace.... Broken hearted.
