Missy ~ Wonderful Loving Lady - 5Yo Blue Greyhound

Recommended Posts

MISSY

**UPDATED: 7th JULY 2013**

Location: Foster home in Hertfordshire, UK.

Key Points: Wonderful lady, loving, laid back, affectionate, good with other dogs, travels well, walks to heel, house savvy, suitable as only dog or as canine companion.

Missy is a very beautiful 5 year old blue greyhound girl who is now looking for a loving home after a long racing career. Missy has a very beautiful steel grey coat and a wonderfully soft expression. She is fairly stocky for a ‘lady hound’ and currently weighs in around 29kg.

~ Personality ~

Generally: Affectionate when she knows you, easy going, extremely chilled and laid back, undemanding, learning to play.

Missy is a lovely, sweet, gentle lady who doesn’t ask for much and is very happy in herself. In the house she is extremely chilled out and doesn’t ask for anything other than a soft sofa to stretch out on. She can appear a bit reserved with strangers, but this is simply because she is so laid back. She doesn’t need to be in your face to enjoy your company, and as she continues to bond to her foster parents, we are seeing more and more of her very sweet and loving side. We also think she has a wee playful streak in there waiting to show itself.

~ In the Home ~

Generally: House savvy, excellently behaved in the home, no issues, very calm and sedate.

Missy has been in her foster home for about 7 weeks now, and is very settled. She is a naturally laid back, calm, un-fussed girl who very much enjoys the quiet life, and MUST have her home comforts! Missy is very well behaved in the home and is incredibly chilled out. She is housetrained, doesn’t chew or steal items, ok to be left with canine company and really just likes mooching around the house in between her siestas. She is responsive to your direction and will happily abide by the house rules without complaint.

Missy is sharing her foster home with 3 other dogs of varying ages, and gets on just fine with them all. She is very good at sharing both food and attention, and will happily wait her turn. She is also very comfortable in her own skin and doesn’t need to follow the other dogs around or rely on them for guidance. As such, we feel Missy could cope very well with being an only dog provided she was given enough mental stimulation throughout the day to prevent boredom. She would also be a good calm, centered companion for a more insecure or energetic dog, and she may herself benefit from having a playful buddy to bring her out of her shell a bit more.

~ Other Animals ~

Generally: Very good with other dogs, usually polite and laid back, can get overexcited with small offlead dogs and may need a bit of care for first minute of introduction.

Missy is generally very good with other dogs and is very polite in meeting them. She may need a bit of care if small dogs are running around offlead which can excite her make her weave a bit on the lead, but if introduced calmly to other dogs she is fine. She has met several small dogs on lead now and has always been good with them even if they try to jump all over her. She is wonderfully laid back and takes things as they come. She is not suitable to live with cats.

~ Out and About ~

Generally: Walks to heel, good traveller, doesn’t require much exercise, generally good at meeting dogs and people, can pull if sees cat.

Like most greyhounds, she will not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week. Missy walks to heel and is very well behaved with the exception of seeing a cat or a dog in the distance, in which case she will pull a bit and may weave/bark. Her foster mum is working with her on this and she is making steady improvement with the more dogs she meets. She loves going on car trips.

~ Greyhounds as Pets ~

In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly.

~ Where Am I? ~

Missy is currently in foster care in Hertfordshire, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you may be required to travel to the foster home to meet and collect her.

~ Want To Adopt Me? ~

Missy is vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. She is currently in heat so has not been neutered yet, but please don’t let that stop you from asking about her. We don’t expect her to be waiting very long!

If you are interested in adopting Missy, you can contact me (Tam) via email: [email protected], or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs.

There is an application form for adopting a Kerry Greyhound, and we will ask you to fill it in as the first step in the adoption process. To speed up this process, we recommend you do this before emailing/calling. You can find the form, as well as further information on our homing procedures, on the Adoption Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/adoption.html.

Thank you.

Kerry Greyhounds UK is a voluntary organisation based in Norfolk, England. It focuses on rehoming unwanted Irish greyhounds and lurchers, as huge numbers are bred in Ireland each year and homes are few and far between. KGUK operates through a network of volunteers spread over Ireland and the UK. We can look after approximately 30 dogs at any one time in both kennels and foster homes.

Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, & microchipped before being adopted (unless stated otherwise).

We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in all corners of the UK. If interested in one of our hounds, please feel free to contact us via the following:
