Beachy ~ Happy Friendly Girl - 5Yo Black Greyhound

Recommended Posts

BEACHY

**UPDATED: 16TH AUGUST 2012**

Meet the delicious Beachy. She is a 5 year old ex-racing greyhound lady who, after running many races and producing a litter of pups, sadly became surplus to her owner’s requirements. She was due to be put to sleep if we couldn’t take her in. Luckily Beachy now has the opportunity to find a loving family to call her own. She is a very pretty girl who is in nice condition despite her past, and has a soft brownish black coat with a white heart on her chest. She is 26” to the shoulder.

~ Personality ~

Beachy is a lovely friendly girl who really enjoys being around people and getting lots of cuddles. She is alert and attentive but also confident and laid back, really a super girl in the making. She is quite happy-go-lucky in demeanour and is a beautifully chipper girl to be around. She is going to be so very happy once in a loving family home, surrounded by love.

~ In the Home ~

Beachy has spent all her life so far in kennels, and has not been in a home environment before. Therefore, new owners will need to be a bit patient during the first couple of weeks and allow her time to settle in and learn the home rules. It generally takes 10-14 days for new greyhounds to start to settle down in a home, and really all they need is a bit of time and patience. We’re sure that once this girl discovered the comfort of a sofa or plush duvet, she will never want to get up again!

~ Other Animals ~

Beachy is well behaved with the other greyhounds in the kennels and has never caused any hassle. She has not been tested with small dogs or cats but these can be carried out prior to adoption if required. Often ex-racing greyhounds need a bit of socialisation with smaller dog breeds as they would never have seen them before, and at the start may not realise they are dogs!

~ Out and About ~

Beachy walks very well on the lead, keeping to heel, and also travels great in the car. Like most greyhounds, Beachy will not need a huge amount of exercise. Once she settles into the retired hound life, she will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week.

~ Greyhounds as Pets ~

In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers.

~ Where Am I? ~

Beachy is currently being kennelled in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to us in Norfolk to meet her.

~ Want To Adopt Me? ~

Beachy is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. This girl would greatly benefit from being in a foster home, and Kerry Greyhounds UK is always in desperate need of new fosterers. It is such a rewarding experience, and costs are covered by the rescue.

If you are interested in adopting or fostering Beachy, please visit either our website’s Adoption Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/adoption.html or Fostering Page: http://s300889640.websitehome.co.uk/uk/Fostering.html for information and instructions on our homing & fostering procedures. ~~ KERRY GREYHOUNDS UK ~~

Kerry Greyhounds UK is a small voluntary organisation that is based in Norfolk, England. It focuses on rehoming unwanted Irish greyhounds and lurchers, as huge numbers are bred in Ireland each year and homes are few and far between. KGUK operates through a network of volunteers spaced over Ireland and the UK. We can look after approximately 30 dogs at any one time in both kennels and foster homes.

Each dog is neutered, vaccinated, & microchipped before being adopted (unless stated otherwise).

We assess the suitability of all home offers, and we have homed greyhounds in all corners of the UK.

If interested in one of our hounds, please visit our website’s Adoption Page for information and instructions on our homing procedures. Once you have filled in and returned the application form, we will then contact you via phone or email to discuss adopting one of our hounds in more detail.
