  1. Addisons seems to be the best outcome I can hope for at the moment.
  2. Some of you may remember Gilbert my foster dog who originally came from RDR pound. He has now been with me for two weeks, and despite much food and much love is failing to put on any weight at all. This photo goes some way to showing you just how emaciated he is I am heart broken as things are not looking good for him. Tomorrow he is visiting the vets for the day and they are testing him for the following three conditions: 1) Addisons Disease 2) Heart Disease 3) Intestinal Tumour It now seems highly likely that he has one of these conditions or something just as serious. At the moment he is not in pain, other than severe arthritis and his legs keep collapsing but not in a way which upsets him. Please keep him, and me in your thoughts tomorrow.
  3. Glad it is him who is wonky not me!
  4. Good luck with your home check Julie
  5. Ohhh folks ... little Onyx (to be renamed Olly!) is very very excited. He has just been told that he will have a new home to go to this week! Congratulations Magna ... I may not be good at keeping promises, but I do find you the very best of dogs
  6. I have just had a phone call where someone told me that they needed their dog gone by today .. they were joining the army tomorrow and would I take the dog. I have no space, literally no where to put the dog On ending the call the owner said to me so what do I do .. "Put him on a chain and leave him in the garden". That was enough .. I saw red, and the reply was not nice . It went something like this. "This is YOUR dog, spell that Y O U R D O G! Take some responsiblity you selfish bas***d and stop trying to blame other people. If he is really YOUR dog you should have thought about that before joining the army" ... Honestly I don't really believe the person that they are joining army tomorrow but then again it makes me sooooo angry that they try to blame someone else for their failings This has of course been happening to me or other volunteers all year, people trying to use guilt to get us to find spaces we don't have.
  7. I don't know one day you are loved in the home you have been in since you were a puppy, then when you are just six years old suddenly mummy decides that living abroad will be more fun Sadly you don't feature in that picture of her life so you get left behind with relatives, who are lovely but with their disability can't care for you so next thing you find yourself in kennels I don't like it ... it makes me sad! I am very scared and frightened .. do you think they will hurt me here? I keep looking round hopeful that someone kind will take me away or that my mommy will come back for me I know the people here love me because they keep saying I am the nicest and most handsome Cocker they have met (and of course that must be true because I am very very handsome ). But it isn't the same, simply isn't the same as having a mum of my own Please people wish me luck in finding that home quickly. I am having an operation to get rid of some balls on Tuesday, I find that strange because just now I don't feel much like playing ball and I think they are being a bit thick?
  8. Thank you folks. Sable it is . She is adorable. Very underweight at the moment, though from the scar on her tummy would appear already to be neutered! She will begin looking for her own home soon. Behaviourist met her today and said she was pretty much perfect
  9. Ok this girl has me puzzled, do you get GSD's in this colouring?
  10. LOL maybe 40-45 is for a fat poodle then! I asked the Standard Poodle Club and just took them at their word .. but of course I could have misheard cos double is current body weight would be a lot. I think she was talking about them over the years as she knew a lot about the development of the breed and she said the dogs bred 10 years ago would have been much bigger than todays standards
  11. Sadly the home for Nemo fell through so he is still looking Just means the right one is out there somewhere
  12. We visited vets today. Gilbert weighed in at 22.3 kg .. normal body weight for a poodle of his size would be 40-45 kg . Vet is worried there may be some underlying cause of his condition so we are giving him a week on good food and weighing him in again. If he has failed to put on weight then we worry majorly Please everyone keep this fabulous dog in your thoughts.
  13. Nothing tonight could have made me happier than those pictures
  14. Thank you for taking it in the spirit it was meant. He will stay with me till he puts on weight and can have his neutering op, then hopefully he will move on to be a long term sponsor dog for the rescue where we cover his vet bills. Whoever gets him gets one special special boy
  15. He will probably die .... just like the rest of us Sorry could not resit that!
  16. For those of you who follow the RDR dogs, meet Gilbert a very special old standard poodle. Here he is when he left the pound .. all matted, weary and smelly :wub|: Gilbert came to us from Rochdale Dog Rescue after he had spent his seven days in the pound. Sadly he is an old boy of around 10 years, who has testicular cancer, is very underweight and was very very matted He will need to have his operation (neutering) once he is stronger, but sadly to add to his complications he has developed kennel cough . Howevever if he could speak (and litterally he can't as he has lost his bark!) I hope he would tell you things are looking up since he moved in with me and the crew to recouperate. Firstly he has had a haircut, ok a little severe, but necessary! While making him more comfortable this goes someway to making it easier for us to show you how underweight he is (though the picture doesn't show the full extent of this ). However he is taking the opportunity to rest and rebuild his energy All and all, as a foster dog, he is the perfect gentleman. He is fabulous to be around, loving and friendly. Great with the other dogs and just .. well just ... perfect really. Sadly he has arthritis which means he is going to have to go on to some pain relief immediately as he struggles with stairs and a lot of walking, however we are hoping as he puts weight on and regains muscles in his legs this will reduce. So your continued good wishes for Gilbert are very much appreciated
  17. Oh oh oh ... gorgeous but i have my favourites
  18. I would prefer any use of our dogs to be ran past ourselves first in terms of context etc.
  19. In fairness I don't think the people who handed them in were using it as a means of disposing. They genuinely didn't know what was a pit bull type and not, but the police officer / handler was able to advise them honestly. They were very happy that the pups ended up in rescue in the end. We are also helping them to neuter their EBT bitch.
  20. I saw these little ones in today. They look like little elves in the fur ... i can imagine them starring in Lord of the Rings! Many thanks to Vanessa for sorting out a place at Evesham for us
  21. Ahhhh well look at me the woman who would never have a yorkie .. now I am more than a little bit smitten by the breed
  22. Thought you might all like to see her after her bath And enjoying life with foster dad! What a difference a day makes ... 24 little hours
