  1. No, it's not acceptable - its cretins like that that help towards the negativity of these absolutely gorgeous dogs (yes I have one, so admit I am more than a tad biased!)

People see a dog chained up and in their minds, immediately the dog is vicious simply because of that fact. I personally think the people who do this to large dogs do it so it makes them look big - oh look at me, I have to "vicious" brute here that I can treat like (put appropriate word here) and he wont do nothing.... this people need a swift education about life - preferably with a large and heavy bat. The only time I could chain anything up - is if I ever caught a bar... person treating their animal like that.. then yes, I would say what I did WOULD be right! but again.. that's just me!

Give him a big hug from me Gail.

  2. In february and march, I had to claim twice on my pet insurance. Once for Bliss and Once for Elsa. The claim was dealt with fast, I was kept aware at what stage the claims were at and I had cheques for the full amount (less the excess) within a month.

The insurer was: Animal Friends, which is indeed underwritten by E&L. I had no problem with them at all.

  3. Thank you Bebe. :flowers: :flowers:

Once she has the operation and it's a success (out of over 100 dogs operated on for this complaint - only 2 - I believe- have been lost due to complications) she will be "fixed". Her heart will no longer be any cause for concern and she will be able to live a normal, healthy life - as if it had never happened.

Isn't she beautiful though  !!

  4. Please can you see if you can help this little puppy called Angel, she is in the care of Uk Bullmastiff Rescue. She is only 13 weeks old and has a heart problem that unless operated on, will result in her not living past 6 months of age. The operation will cost between £1500 and £3000 depending upon the aftercare required.

Her story and all info is here http://z9.invisionfree.com/All_Molosserbre...showtopic=13795

    Please help if you can

Not all Angels should be in heaven

    Thanks.

  5. Hi Liz,

I got my adorable Rottie girl as a rescue from Lizzie Barn last July - she was 10 weeks old - She fitted in wonderfully with my other two (staffy bitch 6yrs and staffyxlab male 2 years) - there are so many larger dogs/puppies (and crosses) in rescue now of all ages - so I am sure you will find one that will slip into your pack with ease.

I always had the other worry - mine are all large (except my staffie who just THINKS she's large!!) but they were gentle as anything when we've fostered smaller and/or younger dogs/puppies.

The large rescue dog (or pup) of your dreams is out there - trust me! Good luck :flowers:

  6. UPDATE:

The date of the first problem with Elsa was 12th February, I rang E&L that day and requested a claims form - it took about 4 days to get to me, then I took a few days to go to the vets (took it back when I had an appointment). Today I got the settlement.

So to be honest, I have had no problem with them - I also have another claim which is in the process of being finalised for Bliss (had a very expensive month for Vet bills and problems in February!!) which I can expect to receive in the next week or so. (Bliss was an emergency case on Sunday 25th Feb)

Someone said that vets wont accept direct payment because of E&L's bad reputation. Whilst that may be right, I can also say that my vet never even ASKED who I was insured with and just said that I was to pay the bill and then claim it back from my insurers myself - so it wouldn't have mattered in my case which insurance company I was with.

Also, not sure if it's relevant, but I spoke to an E&L customer services rep the other day (enquiring about state of play with claims!) and he told me that the "Animal Friends" claims are usually dealt with very quickly and I dont think they've done bad at all.

All in all, I have had no problems with Animal Friends Insurance / E&L at all!

  7. Don't know if its any help, but if they are on Low Income, they may be able to get it cheaper if there is a "Blue Cross" or a RSPCA clinic close by (without having a voucher too)

    Good luck

  8. I would also advise anyone taking out insurance to check the level of cover - Marks and Spencer for me every time (for five dogs and five cats) :flowers:

I have heard lots of bad things (and nothing good) about E&L too

Well, I'll be able to let you know soon, I've got a couple of claims going through now, so fingers crossed all goes well!

    Lynn
