  1. Why Dogs Don't Live As Long As Us ???

WHY DOGS DON'T LIVE AS LONG AS PEOPLE (Copied - Author unknown)

Being a veterinarian, I had been called to examine a ten-year-old Irish Wolfhound named Belker.

The dog's owner, his wife, and their little boy were all very attached to Belker and they were hoping for a miracle.

I examined Belker and found he was dying of cancer.

I told the family there were no miracles left for Belker, and offered to perform the euthanasia procedure for the old dog in their home.

As we made arrangements, the owners told me they thought it would be good for the four-year-old boy to observe the procedure.

They felt he could learn something from the experience.

The next day, I felt the familiar catch in my throat as Belker's family surrounded him.

The little boy seemed so calm, petting the old dog for the last time, that I wondered if he understood what was going on.

Within a few minutes, Belker slipped peacefully away.

The little boy seemed to accept Belker's transition without any difficulty or confusion.

We sat together for a while after Belker's death, wondering aloud about the sad fact that animal lives are shorter than human lives.

The little boy, who had been listening quietly, piped up, "I know why."

Startled, we all turned to him.

What came out of his mouth next stunned me.

I'd never heard a more comforting explanation.

He said, "Everybody is born so that they can learn how to live a good life - like loving everybody and being nice, right?"

The four-year-old continued, "Well, animals already know how to do that, so they don't have to stay as long."

  2. Got this bog standard reply, which several people appear to have.

Thank you for your e-mail regarding the 15 March episode of 'Casualty'.

We are sorry that you didn’t enjoy the storyline which featured a dog.

The breed of dog used in this episode wasn’t a Staffordshire bull terrier, it was an American bulldog. We accept and understand that the vast majority of bull breeds behave perfectly well.

However, there have been well documented instances of this breed of dog attacking people, causing serious injury and in the worst cases, death. These instances have been linked to dogs bred to fight illegally and this programme featured just such a dog and highlighted the consequences of this practice.

We had no intention to vilify all dogs and firmly believe that this programme didn’t convey that impression.

However, we do acknowledge your concerns and would like to assure you that we have registered your comments on our audience log. This is the internal report of audience feedback which we compile daily for all programme makers and commissioning executives within the BBC, and also their senior management. It ensures that your points, and all other comments we receive, are circulated and considered across the BBC.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact us.

    Regards

I do love my Bumpy. He's a brave boy, bless him  He was sitting on the ferry with his nose through the railings, sniffing the air. He got a bit confused in the lift, probably wondering why we were in such a small room but once he was on the beach, he was happy trundling about, sniffing things and paddling  I look at the photo's and see him having such a good time, even though he can't see a thing

    made me :mecry:

luffly story and committed me to these driving lessons so mine can get to th beach

  4. T I don't understand why the breed isn't banned there but is here?

The breed is banned in many states :mecry: but there is a strong anti BSL movement over there.

In 2006 the BSL laws were repealed in some states Victories 2006

so there is hope that this madness can be changed :) but it certainly isn't going to happen overnight.
