  1. I don't have one yet but I'd imagine that on your heavier days you would just remove it more often just as you would change pads or tampons more often  It also says on the website that it has the benefit of reducing heavy flow (and pain) - I don't know how long it takes for that to happen, I should imagine it's an individual thing.

Not much use am I  best wait for someone who has one

  2. From Friends of the Earth:

    SANITARY PROTECTION

The use of sanitary products can have damaging effects on the environment. This is coupled with the potential threat that the toxins in disposable sanitary products can pose to a woman's health.

Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS) is a blood infection which can be developed from wearing tampons. 99% of TSS cases are found in women wearing rayon-blend tampons which are the most common kind. If this is something which you are worried about, then you should perhaps consider switching to Natracare which does 100% cotton tampons which may be safer. Another thing which you should be aware of is that although the super absorbent polyacrylate gel AGM was banned from tampons in 1995 due to its links with TSS, it is still used in some towels. The main safety issue in connection with this is that women may change gel-filled towels less often because of their absorbency levels, which could cause build-up of bacteria.

The Women’s Environmental Network has campaigned to get tampons and towels made from GM cotton. The organisation is concerned about potential alterations in absorbency levels increasing the risk of TSS and about the potential transfer of antibiotic resistance marker genes. Wearing disposable sanitary products risks putting toxins next to your skin or vaginal tissue. Some residues such as pesticides and dioxins from the bleaching process have been linked to birth defects, reproductive disorders and cancer.

The disposal of sanitary products can cause a great deal of harm to the environment. The flushing of sanitary protection waste means that much of it ends up in rivers and sewage outfills, acting as a breeding ground for diseases. Otherwise, it festers in landfill sites where it takes six months for a tampon to degrade. The best environmental option would be to use reusable sanitary protection such as the Keeper, washable sanitary towels and sponges. The most ethical brands of sanitary protection include Lotus Pads, Luna Sponges and Many Moons. More well-known brands such as Always and Tampax unfortunately do not have such good ethical records.

  3. Just back from the vets with Raven  She said that it looks as if it's just the cornea that's affected - the front of the eye itself looks clear (fingers crossed) It's also in a good position because it's protected by his third eyelid. Soooooo......keeping up with the drops & tablets until next Tuesday when the first vet I saw will check it again(fingers crossed for then :) ) What I have to watch out for is that it doesn't *collapse* because some ulcers can

Thank you sooooo much for the reiki sent, it's obviously working  Could you please keep it up until Tuesday at least :flowers:

  4. Has anyone contacted ITV's programme *This Morning* ? They recently had Lionel Blair on re. his lost colliex and more recently the woman who offered a huge reward for the return of her dog.

My Dad's near Middlesbrough so I'll see if he can give out some car posters to his friends - will email you when I've spoken to him :)

  5. Rimadyl shouldn't be used long term without regular tests on liver function & preferably with a test prior to use to determine suitability for the individual dog but many vets won't do this. My father's dog died from liver failure after being on Rimadyl for over a year for arthritis - his vet refused to test her despite my father requesting him to do so. When he took her to a different vet he spotted immediately that she had liver problems, unfortunately it was too late :( .

I'd err on the side of caution as others have suggested & wouldn't use it on my dogs long term. I hope she's ok :flowers:

  6. Thanks Ange et al, Jimmycat has come downstairs looking for food today, the first time she's done that in a week  Please keep sending reiki for her as she's still a bit snuffly but much improved :flowers:

  7. Sending Reiki to Paula's dad and Jimmycat - Wendy do you have a photo of her?

Thanks Ange :flowers: she really needs it at the moment - this is Jimmy  (before she became ill)

  8. I'd really like some reiki sent to Jimmycat who's suffering from a cat cold (possibly flu) which at 19 years old is a bit of a nightmare. My Dad will be sending healing but I think that some Refuge reiki will also be much appreciated by her

    Thank you :flowers:

  9. I'm Wendy & live in Cheshire (against my will) with my OH, son Ceri, three dogs - Harry, Islay & Lucas, two cats - Raven & Jimmy and a piggy of the guinea variety called Taz.

I spend my days drawing & painting animals which is bliss for me (& allows me to donate to rescue) & gives the dogs & cats the opportunity to abuse me all day long by taking turns playing the "I neeeeeeedddddd to go out nowwwwwwwwww" followed by "I neeeeeeeeeeddddd to come in nowwwwwwwwwwwww" followed closely by "I neeeeeeeddddddddddddddd to eat nowwwwwwwww" game every two minutes  It also means I'm here for Ceri who's very good at the above game too

I am a failed fosterer (Lucas) so am not able to foster any more which is probably just as well....
