  1. Kyla had cruciate surgery in 2008 (aged 4), my vets did the banding procedure. She has had no bother with the leg until earlier this year, had an op a few weeks ago to remove the clip and band. Shes still limping a bit so atm im keeping my fingers crossed. Give Charlie a big from us.
  2. Yeah he was dressed rather casually as were others but there were a lot of people very smart too. Clare yes that’s the guy trying him, don’t you think he looks too big for Magic Got a lesson tomorrow so keep all your fingers crossed hes there for me. Greys mum I totally understand how you got attached, im far too attached for my own good Hope Milo continues to improve, im sure you’re best pleased with the chiros comments. Jeanne would love to see pics of you and Max. Blue and his bling and wow what big jumps Loki very impressive
  3. Couple of piccies of Magic from hunt on Saturday taken by professional photographer. I was the 200th person to like his Facebook page so get a free mounted piccie of my choice. Well I have to pick one of Magic dont I regardless of who is on his back
  4. Hey everyone been offline for a while at home (silly BT) but back again thankfully. Things have been a bit haphazard since I last posted what with instructor breaking her ankle, chopping and changing horses as Magic had girth rash Confidence dropped a bit and we weren’t really enjoying lessons that much but we persevered. Magic was back to work last week though a fella was trying him yesterday in the hunt with a view to buying him We went up to watch, Magic seemed really keen though the guy quit half way round and took him back to the yard. He said he was good but very strong and I think he was expecting something about 15hh. Surely if you liked a horse that much you'd do the whole hunt Don’t want to get my hopes up but I am really hoping he doesn’t buy him. I did shed a few tears when I was leaving him after our lesson on Friday and yes I know you shouldn’t get attached to a riding school horse but I LOVE him I am pages and pages and pages behind so will try to read back and catch up but hope everyone is doing ok and babies are all well
  5. Piccies are fab and he looks so enthusiastic
  6. Milo Glad Wanda is content, hope you get to the bottom of it soon. Banner Poor Bumble, did you have words with the stupid woman? Glad to hear Lokis mood has improved Had jumping lesson today with new girl, going to stick with her rather than chopping and changing between the different instructors, flatwork lesson on Friday. One of the young lads on the yard had Magic out round the xc course today and said he was very keen. I know people muddle through with money and bills but its vets bills we’re talking about for the dogs and those I cant cut back on, if they need operations and treatment they have to get it. Definitely going to wait and see how things are in the spring and go from there.
  7. Seriously well done Gooster and Blue, he deserves some play time now And very well done CP and Milo too Good luck Wanda for Tuesday, hope shes painfree soon Lesson on Friday was good, another different instructor. Trying a bit of leg yielding, getting them to work on the bit and a little jumping. We did the same jump a few times which gets Magic very excited so at the end it felt a little out of control with him just whizzing over the jump and quickly trying to get back to the other horses. I do sooooo miss our usual instructor I still really really really want Magic and I have also stamped my feet like a child in a tantrum
  8. CP new yard looks fab, good luck with showjumping Clare glad Loki is feeling better in himself, long may it continue Look forward to seeing piccies of driving pony. Gooster good for you on entering dressage ;) OMG hope your friend is ok horse riding is just so bloody dangerous sometimes, glad Bumbles good mood is rubbing off on Fern and Annie No definite update on Magic though in my heart I think im taking on too much atm if I buy him Kyla is going to orthopaedic specialist week after next for exploratory operation, Lily also going to same vet on the same day to sedate her and assess her leg for instability and decide what surgery she needs. My heads all over the place about both of them, worrying about the outcome and what we have to deal with over the next few months as regards recovery. Just don’t know if it would be fair on them or Magic, I know other people have dogs and horses but it feels maybe a bit too much to be dealing with at the same time. Financially it would also be quite tight to be honest and with maybe needing to take dogs to hydro etc over the next few months I don’t want to overstretch myself. Just having major wibbles about the whole thing If I don’t buy him now I’ll keep on with lessons over the winter and see how things are in the spring, if Magic will even still be at the yard, if owner still would sell him and go from there. Had a flatwork lesson today with new instructor, will take a bit of time to get used to her and her to us as well. Doing leg yielding tomorrow amongst other stuff.
  9. Instructor fell off a young horse earlier today and broke her ankle so out of action for god knows how long hope she has speedy recovery. I broke my ankle over 20 years ago when I was 15 and know how painful it is
  10. Poor Wanda and Bumble Clare glad you had nice enjoyable hack and Loki is feeling better, weather today was just brilliant. Flatwork lesson today and Magic was a real monkey, we were doing canter poles on a 20m circle at A, then a smaller circle at A, so instead of turning and doing the smaller circle, Magic decided he was going to tank off diagonally across the school and headed towards two jumps but decided to jump two polyjump blocks that were sitting in a 3-4ft gap between the two jumps. Stuff the flatwork, he wanted to jump today Instructor said a livery girl and her horse had just cantered up the lane beside the school so thinks Magic wanted to follow. Proper jump lesson tomorrow.
  11. Poor Ted, hope hes more comfortable soon and you get a food to suit him
  12. Collies r best that is nooooo help whatsoever Grace I do think hes well aware how much I love Magic hence his price CP he seems sensible for his age and I would be keeping him at the yard so would certainly get advice from instructor/owner if any problems arose. If I owned him I’d be happy hacking, doing a bit of xc and jumping, they have little shows at the yard, atm I don’t think I’d be wanting to travel to do stuff but that might change as time went on. I totally agree about having all agreements in writing, im also not very trusting. Clare I don’t think theres any tack with him, he wears the same bridle all the time but other horses saddles from week to week. They know I love him, that I cant hide Don’t think hes been out on the road yet since hes been at the yard but I did hack him by himself this morning up the lanes and he was fine, im not that keen on road hacks anyway. Would definitely get him vetted, don’t think there would be any probs with that but you never know. Is it normal to feel sooo jittery when buying a horse, like yes I want him but am I doing the right thing at your price negotiations with Loki
  13. for all the poorly horses Bumble Wanda Loki Good luck with the 11th im sure you and Milo will do well. Okkkkkkkkkkkk spoke to yard owner today, will sell Magic for £2500 and would take him back if things didn’t work out for whatever reason. A bit more than I was expecting though maybe can be worked on. Magic is 6 years old and I think 14.2.….what do you horsey experts think
  14. Gooster im fine, right arm a little sore whatever way ive launched myself off, glad lesson went well. Glad Annies leg is nearly better Had jumping lesson today, its slowly sinking in to keep sitting back approaching the jump and keep plenty of leg on, did course of 9 jumps three times and the last time instructor said she couldn’t fault it. Got a lunge lesson on Wednesday morning, looking forward to that. Not sure if its on Magic or not. Had long chat with instructor today about costs of keeping horse, owner wasn’t at yard to chat about Magic but instructor going to mention im interested. Will know hopefully next week.
  15. How scary, hope there is some way those idiots can be stopped some people just spoil things for the rest of us. And good boy Loki for being so calm, glad he feels better Parker Clare we were cantering into the jump, in hindsight trotting would maybe have prevented him running out but because he was soooo keen to go over all the other jumps I didn’t think he would refuse or maybe if I was more experienced I would have realised.
  16. Hope you get Annies scabby bits sorted without the need for a vet Pony is gorgeous We were supposed to have jumping lesson today but yard owner decided at 4pm he was going into the arena to arrange jumps for show tonight, instructor was Anyway it meant we had a very impromptu xc lesson instead Dont get me wrong they were ikkle jumps but im glad we didnt know in advance. Magic was a wee superstar and jumped them all very enthusiastically until we came to jump a small white bridge shaped one and he ran out to the right at the last minute. I came off, landed on my feet and we stood looking at each other Tried it again and he ran out to the left though I managed to stay on that time. Have to say I dont like that running out malarky Instructor then hopped on him and he tried same with her but she made him pop over it. Soooooo my first taster of xc in a lot of years was good fun. All being well its a jumping lesson on Friday.
  17. Thanks but too big for me too, think mine is only a 55 or 56.
  18. Hope you get to dressage on 11th. What sounds straightforward will probably mean we wont be able to do it Bit sloppy of Robinsons, hope you get it sorted out quickly. I love getting parcels, would sooooo like a new hat, new back protector and new breeches BUT I don’t NEED them so im not. for Loki, glad hes feeling bit better and I hope he still has all shoes on in morning. CP he only came to the yard back in May (I think), from sales so im not sure how much they would know about his previous history, I assumed vetting was something that everyone did, I would certainly want to. He has a bridle of his own but different saddles are used so would need to buy one along with everything else. I like the thought of horses being out over the winter and not stuck in the stable but then I think of cold, wet, windy nights and think how unpleasant that sounds but they’re horses and as you said if they are well rugged up with shelter would be ok. I think they offer grass livery all year, certainly have plenty of land but hopefully going to chat to instructor on Friday after lesson about costs etc, get clearer picture in my head.
  19. Good boy Milo hope you had good holiday CP. How’d Loki get on tonight hope hes ok. Gooster had a nosey on horse and hound, my goodness it’s a fast moving board. Hope you get to the dressage, how frustrating for you. Yeah don’t get giddy, I soooooo want this to work out and hopefully with my friend and I house sharing it might, I do get carried away with my thoughts of Magic being mine, silly I know but cant help it So envious of you all with your own horses Had a flatwork lesson today, jumping on Wednesday. Next flatwork lesson we are going to try leg yielding and turn on the forehand, should be interesting.
  20. I said no giddyness Three lessons per week is £45 but if things were a bit tight a week I don’t have to have three lessons, different matter when you actually have a horse which needs looking after. Think grass livery is £25 per week, stabled costs are I think between £160-£190 per month. Its all the other costs or potential costs that scare the life out of me
  21. Yeah but you're SO lucky having your own horse you can ride when you want, im a big bit with envy. All being well I have a friend moving in next month to share my house which will help loads financially. Going to have a chat with instructor about realistic costs of keeping a horse (Magic) at the yard. Asked again today would they sell him and she said I would need to speak to the boss so I dont know. There was a poster up in the tack room for a 14.2 cob for sale, has done a bit of everything, just rider has outgrown. Nowwwwwwwwwwwww dont you lot be getting all giddy because its really not anywhere near 100% that I will be getting a horse or even Magic for that matter but I am gonna check out details, they are the deciding factor at the end of the day. Off to check lottery ticket.
  22. Good boy Blue glad you had fab lesson. Insurance sounds a total nightmare though I suppose its something you cant do without. Jumping lesson today was good, course of 9 jumps which is the same course that is used for small Thursday night show at the yard only jumps are a LOT smaller Last jump was a spread, raised another hole. Instructor said only to jump it if rest went ok and we felt happy enough, Magic and I jumped it twice Really feels like we're progressing after doing jumps today. Got three lessons next week, cant wait.
  23. Thought i'd let you see the very handsome donkey called Shrek who keeps the horses company at the yard Isnt he just adorable
  24. Never realised that and I thought dog insurance was a menace
  25. Do insurance companies not cover a horse for life like dog insurance Whats thoughts on keeping horses out over the winter? Do you all have to bring them in or do you have a choice at all?
