  1. there was an accident in the hairdresser ( major misunderstanding ) and I ended up having to have it cut really short. Like a big girls blouse I cried for 24 hours and hated it.

Aww it's horrid when that happens cos you can't hide it and you are stuck with it for ages. I remember some silly bint in a branch of Toni and Guy, butchering the front of my hair, right up to my chin. She wasn't really paying attention to me.. too busy sorting out problems and dealing with some flower delivery. (Same day my first dog had to be put down too)

  2. I have to agree, I'm 5'4" and weigh about 10st 7lb, which apparently still puts me in the overweight category, but I wear a size 10 and get told that I am slim and don't need to lose weight, I am physically very strong and pretty well muscled so I just put it down to that - still makes me feel crap though - I have recently lost 2 stone and they still call me overweight - a real slap in the face for all the hard work to lose the weight.

BMI is a funny thing. You are right. Being fit and muscular does mean that you weigh more and consequently have a higher BMI. Take a really fit and muscular rugby player, work out their BMI - they probably come out as obese.

My OH had a big row with a nurse once, who was trying to tell him he was obese. He was the fittest he had ever been in his life. Very muscular, low body fat, doing hours of exercise and training everyday. She wouldn't have it and didn't seem to understand that he weighed alot because he was muscular and fit.

I think BMI is a good indication, however BMI is/was identified through fat measurements not just height against weight. I don't know if they do this still, but it was done with pinchers in specified areas to identify fat and gave a better indication of body mass. Height against weight charts will only give an indication of this.

I've seen that done to work out body fat % but not BMI. Do you mean they then went on to estimate body fat in order to find out why the person had a high BMI?

  3. Have had bad back on and off for 2 years now. Osteopath says it is either a facet joint on my L2 or my sacrum. I was signed off for 2 weeks in Jan cos I couldn't stand up straight. Been ok since then, til last week when it went all stiff. Aches when sitting or standing. Lying down is ok.

I find hot water bottles are v good. Am in the process of converting entire allotment into a no dig system (sounds to good to be true if I'm honest but will give it a go).

Nice lovely back wishes to all.

  4. I don't want to jinx myself, but mysteriously, I have been ok so far this year.

I'd normally be shut in the house at the weekend, on full meds, windows shut, air purifier on etc and still really ill. Dunno what is going on... (not that I'm complaining)

  5. Ok ta :flowers:

I've never really thought about it til now. If I happen to pop in at the time the threads appear then I impulsively nominate/vote. But yeah, having thought about it, it does make sense to me that people nominating and voting are the people donating.

  6. Although I agree with the right to choice it is only really able to cover the physical, my mother has late stage dementia, it is one of the cruelest diseases I have ever seen, if she could see herself now I know she wouldn't want to live - I'm not sure she even does to be honest, every day is torture for her, she is afraid all the time, confused & has absolutely no quality of life it is merely an existence - no court in the land would afford her the luxury of being able to make a choice as she would be deemed unfit -

I have a family member in a similar situation. Their condition has physical symptoms that really restrict their life, but also now dementia that is getting worse and worse. I wish they were allowed to decide for themselves.

  7. There's an organic product - some kind of balm I think - advertised in the photography magazine I get. I'll dig out the details in case it's of use, am going to order some for Rob and see if it helps.

I have tried that haymax pollen barrier stuff. I'm not sure about it yet cos it is grass that gets me though and that is only just starting.

I've already been to the docs for my usual stuff. I get the tablets that pilots have because they are non drowsy. The other ones used to turn me into a zombie after weeks of taking them non stop.

My worst year was 2003. I was so snotty that when I spoke, no talking came out - I just gurgled. Then by mid July I was so congested that both my ear drums swelled up in the evening. Next morning I was screaming my head off... we went to docs and they said they would both pop. A couple of hours later they did pop. I spent about a month unable to hear what people were saying - they sounded as if they were underwater. My hearing is a bit dodgy ever since.

  8. You'll find both of them on PETA's OK list Don't Test it's as a pdf, :flowers: , please let me know if you have any doubts as to Peta's list as I certainly don't want to give money to any cosmetic companies that do test, my skin's not worth that much :flowers:

Apparantly if you buy Junes copy of Glamour there's a 25 squid voucher for a free spray tan, it was on Money Saving Expert tonight

Thanks. I will have a read :flowers:

  9. Clarins have either the tanning milk which is the one I have used, it also has a spf of 6 it will give you a very natural tan in about 2 hrs, or they have a tanning mouse which sounds as if it will give you a bit more of a tan, you can always pop into the Clarins counter and they will give you a couple of trial samples for nowt and you can see for yourself, ment to say the milk is 15.50 and the mouse is 19.50, whilst your at the Clarins counter try and get as many freebies as you can, they really go a long way, I got a tiny trial size of their new cream that will cost 62 quid when it comes out, I'm on my third night of using it  .............and while your at it why not try some of the other counters too, I had my lips done for nowt at the Bobbi Brown counter ( another one that dosen't test on animals) I've struggled for years never knowing which lippy to use but they sorted it out in a jiff, Clinique and MAC are two others that don't test on animals and will have swanky counters you can get loads of testers from, if you can go in on a week day when it's not so busy and you'll have more chance of getting them to try out make up on you.

I've just realised what a long post I've done on make up...............and I hardly ever use the stuff

    Celeste,

Do you have any more info about Clarins and Bobbi Brown, with regards to animal testing please? If their products don't incorporate any form of animal testing then I might consider using them. Trouble is, the info on the Clarins website isn't very clear. It says In 1987, Clarins was the first French company to cease product testing on animals. That tells me that they don't test their products on animals, but it doesn't say anything about the ingredients that they use within their products. Many cosmetics companies use ingredients that have already been animal tested, and some pay testing companies to test ingredients on their behalf.

I can't find Clarins or BB on the list HERE and I don't think they are in my cruelty free shopper book either.

If you have any other info I'd be grateful.

    Thanks

  10. My son Daniel won the 11-13 years old wheelchair race, came home with a big cup, well done to daniel and all his friends in the wheelchair mini marathons

Well done Daniel :flowers: I'm not sure where you live but if he is into doing further mini marathons then we have one near us in October. My partner organises a half marathon, plus mini marathon. He launched it this morning with Dave Moorcroft. If you might be interested in it then feel free to pm me.

I enjoyed watching the London one on telly. I find it hard to imagine running that far, I really do.

I went out first thing yesterday to start getting ready for the Great Manchester Run in aid of Greyhound Gap. I had a bad back and then hurt myself snowboarding so I know only have 5 weeks left to get ready. OH took me out. He went on his bike and timed me. I only did just under 2 miles and my legs are killing. Imagine doing that 13 times

  11. Paul came home with some of this about 2 months ago when he went to buy Autarkey and found they no longer sold it.

They have been fine on it so far. To be honest the decision was made for me and so I don't know enough about it. In fact you have reminded me that I need to check it out - thanks :flowers:

I remember at the time I did suggest we should just ditch costco altogether and get Autarkey from somewhere else. Dog food is the only thing we go there for now and it seems a waste of petrol and membership money to be honest. We could probably buy Autarkey for a higher price elsewhere and be better off money wise.
