  1. JENSEN Jensen is a 4 year old ex-racing greyhound boy who was retired from the track after a successful racing career. He is a lovely black boy with a distinguished, greying face. Dear Jensen was homed in the summer, but has sadly had to come back to us now due to a change in his owner’s work hours which meant he was being left for longer periods of time. He has also had half his tail removed after an injury, though he still wags it at every opportunity! Jensen is a lovely, friendly chap who was well cared for during his racing career. As such he adores being around people and has a genial, laid back nature. He also absolutely loves his home comforts and is content to snooze most of the day away on his bed, though preferably will snooze on yours! He is used to living in a home, is housetrained and is ok to be left with another dog for company. Jensen was initially very interested in small dogs, having never seen them before in his life. He has calmed down a lot over the past few months, however, and is now much more dependable around them. He can still get overly keen if the other dogs are in an excited state or are running around him, and we would recommend he be muzzled as a precaution when offlead. He would also greatly benefit from attending some dog training or socialising classes so he can get used to seeing many different sized dogs. If introduced to other dogs in a slow, calm way, Jensen is a well-mannered dog. He is not cat friendly. Jensen is a doddle to walk on the lead and rarely pulls. He is used to busy traffic and is quite steady when out, not usually getting spooked by noisy areas. Like most greyhounds, Jensen is also a total couch potato and does not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area once or twice a week. Jensen was sharing his previous home with his friend Lucas, who has also been returned to us. Ideally we would love to find these two boys a home together as they enjoy each other’s company, but we will consider all home offers and can home them separately if it works out that way. This dear boy would be best suited to a relatively quiet home with no young children and another greyhound buddy to keep him company during the day. Jensen is currently in kennels in Norfolk, UK. This dear boy really doesn’t like kennels and we would love to find him a foster home while he waits for his new forever home to come his way. He can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to the foster home to meet/collect him. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. If you are interested in adopting or short-term fostering Jensen, please email me on [email protected] for our adoption application form and information pack. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs. Thanks! ~~ KERRY GREYHOUND CONNECTION ~~ Kerry Greyhound Connection is a small voluntary organisation based in County Kerry, Ireland and Norfolk, England. 2. CASPER Meet the very stunning Casper. He is a 2 year old ex-racing greyhound boy. Casper is absolutely beautiful – no photo does him justice! He is a big fawn boy with THE biggest, most heart melting, amazingly deep eyes we’ve ever seen! No one can resist this boy’s big doe expression! Casper came to us with his brother Milo, who is also looking for his forever sofa. In an ideal world we would truly love to home these hounds together, and they certainly make a breathtaking pair, but we will home them separately if needed. Casper has a fabulous personality and is really just a big soft teddy bear. He loves his cuddles and would stand beside you until the end of time if you kept scratching his chin. He loves being around people and is very content to just be in your presence, he isn’t a very demanding boy. Casper has been very good with the other greyhounds he has met, and hasn’t caused an ounce of trouble. He is currently in a foster home with another greyhound girl and a couple of sheepdogs and is amiable with them all. He may need to be tested more thoroughly with small dogs before going to live with them, and we can do this prior to adoption if needed. In the home, Casper is an angel to have around and has no problem sleeping in his crate during the night. He is housetrained and is just starting to explore around and get used to living in a home. We hope he will pick up some toys soon and start to play. Like most greyhounds, Casper is a total couch potato and does not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area once or twice a week. Although Casper is a big boy, he walks like a dream on the lead and very rarely pulls. In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers. Casper is currently being fostered in Ireland and will be transported via Kerry Greyhounds to the UK or Europe when a suitable permanent or foster home offer comes up. This will be organised and paid for by Kerry Greyhounds, and we ask only for a donation to help cover costs. Please note that adopters will need to travel to our nearest collection point to pick him up, and if you are in the UK and wish to meet before adopting him, he will be fostered in the Norfolk area. Casper is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. If you are interested in adopting Casper, please email me on [email protected] for our adoption application form and information pack. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs. 3. MILO Milo is a 2 year old ex-racing greyhound boy and he is an absolute stunner! He is a medium sized boy with a rich fawn coat that is beautifully soft and sleek. He has such a kind, soft expression and is a real elegant boy. Whoever adopts him is sure going to attract a lot of attention! Milo came to us with his brother Casper, who is also looking for his forever sofa. In an ideal world we would truly love to home these hounds together, and they certainly make a breathtaking pair, but we will home them separately if needed. Milo is a bit quieter than his brother Casper, but is no less affectionate. He likes to stand back and observe things before joining in, but when he knows you he is such a big soft sweetheart. With a bit of work on his confidence, Milo has the potential to blossom into a beautifully self assured young dog. Milo is very good with our other dogs and never wants any trouble. He enjoys being around other dogs and we feel he would be best going to a home with another dog (or with his brother Casper) so that he can continue to gain confidence from their presence. He has not been tested yet with smaller dogs or cats, but these can be carried out prior to adoption if required. We hope to get Milo in to a foster home very soon so that he can start to come out of his shell a wee bit. New owners will need to be a bit understanding at the start and give him time to learn the house rules. It generally takes greyhounds 10-14 days to start to settle into a home, and really all they need is time and patience. Like most greyhounds, Milo is a total couch potato and does not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area once or twice a week. He walks like a dream on the lead, and also travels very good in the car. In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. 4. DILLY Dilly is a 5 year old ex-racing greyhound boy. Poor Dilly has had a very hard life so far and has been rescued from a bad situation. As you can see, he was in poor physical and mental condition when he first came to us and was quite depressed in himself. Luckily Dilly is in a loving foster home now and is making great progress. After having a shocking 20 teeth removed, he is putting on weight and is starting to get some health back in his coat. His mood has also greatly improved and he is now a happy, affectionate boy who is just starting to learn how to play. Dilly has a pretty white coat with dark brindle patches and has very soulful eyes. He is absolutely adoring the home life and is really grateful for his comforts. He gladly welcomes any affection that you give him and likes to snuggle on the sofa in the evenings. Dilly walks great on the lead and when let offlead in an enclosed paddock, he’s more interested in getting more head rubs than in running off! Like most greyhounds, Dilly is a total couch potato and does not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area once or twice a week. Unfortunately Dilly’s main issue right now is other dogs and a lot of this problem stems from him getting attacked by other dogs on several occasions. Right now he is very distrustful of dogs and needs to be fed separately from other dogs until he regains this trust. He could live with another, calm doggie friend and is currently sharing his foster home with another greyhound, but care does need to be taken when he is meeting new, unfamiliar dogs as he is still very wary of them. This is sure to improve with some time and lots of positive reinforcement with tasty treats. He is not cat friendly. Dilly is very food orientated and loves his grub, so food based training works very well with him. Now that he has learned how to play fetch, he would do it all day long if he could! In the house Dilly is well behaved and can be left for 3-4hrs with other dogs for company. He is fantastic in the car and falls asleep instantly when travelling. Dilly is a fabulous boy and we are just starting to see his true personality. He is full of love and is going to be such a rewarding addition to the right kind of family who will help him get over his remaining issues. This special boy has been through a lot and we would really like to find him his loving, quiet forever home. **UPDATE: DECEMBER 2010** Dear Dilly is still looking for his forever home. He is doing well in his foster home and his wounds have healed up nicely. This boy just needs a chance with an understanding owner and he is sure to make a fantastic friend. Dilly is currently in foster care in Norfolk, UK. He can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to the foster home to meet/collect him. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. His wounds have healed up nicely and he’s putting on steady weight. His coat has also transformed – gone is the dull, patchy coat he came with, now Dilly is a beautifully soft sleek boy. He is quite the stunner! Dilly has also hugely improved mentally, and is a much, much happier dog in himself. He eats really well with the other greyhounds he’s sharing his foster home with and enjoys their company. His behaviour around non-greyhounds is much calmer and as long as treats are involved he will remain a good, mannerly boy, focused on the person dispensing the yummys! In 3 months his attitude towards other breeds has become much better and this can only improve with time. Dilly absolutely loves to travel in the car and we would ideally like to find him a home with somebody who would take him everywhere with them. He jumps in and instantly settles for a good long snooze. He greatly enjoys a good walk and is super on the lead, but is also just as good at curling up and dozing the afternoon away! Delicious Dilly adores being part of the family and included in outings. He is really such a loving boy, and his fosterer’s are quite smitten with him! He loves to curl up on the settee with them at the end of the day, and adores getting fussed over. We feel this boy would do absolutely best in a quieter home where he will have company for most of the day and maybe even spoiled a bit to make up for his rough past. Dilly will be 6 years old in February, and we would dearly love to see this boy adopted out soon so that he will have no more turmoil in his life. This boy has changed so much and has become so trusting over the last few months, its so heart warming to see him happy and contented. He truly deserves a family of his own to love him in to his old age. **UPDATE: MARCH 2011** The delicious Dilly is still waiting patiently for his forever home. He really is a fantastic boy now and we are crossing all digits that he gets his permanent sofa soon. Dilly is unrecognisable from the hound we took in 4 months ago, he has transformed into a beautiful, loving boy full of the joys of life. He adores all things people, food and sofa orientated and has tonnes of love to give. Dilly is one of those dogs content with the simple things in life – all he needs is a soft bed, regular meals and daily walks and he is happy as can be. In return you will get a completely devoted hound who lives to love his people. Please consider giving this gorgeous boy a spot on your sofa, as he truly deserves to find his forever home after his harsh and difficult past. 5. JESS Little Jess is a 5 year old ex-racing greyhound girl who’s owner has brought her to us to find her a lovely retirement home. She worked very hard in her racing days and now really deserves her sofa. Jess is an elegant little girl with a white coat and black patches, and a very pretty face. Jess was well fed and looked after during her racing days, but sadly wasn’t used to getting much love and affection – when she first came to us she didn’t know what affection was and was quite withdrawn into herself. It’s taken her a little while to learn that people can give gentle love, but she is really starting to open up now. She is becoming less suspicious and is starting to come up to people and take treats from their hands. Once you gain her trust, however, Jess is a real sweetheart and is both affectionate and friendly. She adores her head rubs and has the greyhoundy habit of chattering her teeth when you’ve hit a good spot. It’s obvious all this is still very new to her and she is a bit overwhelmed, but you can also see that she’s trying her best to adjust. Teaching this girl about the big wide world is sure to be a very rewarding experience, she will give back tenfold what she receives. Dear Jess was recently homed (as Spice) but has been returned to us as she was acting possessively over her bed and food. However Jess has been good as gold since coming to her foster home and hasn’t put a paw wrong since one small grumble on the very first day. She had also been an angel in kennels, and we think her defensive behaviour was brought on by the stress of changing from kennels to a home environment. Sometimes it takes hounds a little while to settle in and they often do better if firm boundaries are put in place from the beginning. Because of this history, however, we feel Jess would do best in a calm, dog-experienced home without young children. If told ‘no’ from day one Jess is a wonderful little girl and we are just now starting to see her true potential. Jess is sharing her foster home with 2 other greyhounds (1 male, 1 female), and they are a huge help to her right now. She would do very well in a home with another settled dog already present who can continue to show her how the home life works. We are also hoping that as she loosens up more, she will start to play and would like another canine friend to play with. Jess has bonded well with her doggie housemates, and has no problems sharing her bed with them. She is also happy to do food bowl swaps during mealtime. She is clean in the house, letting you know when she wants to go out and is ok to be left with other dogs for company. Out on walks, Jess behaves perfectly on the lead and is easy as pie to walk. She never pulls and has been great with the other dogs she has met so far. She recently took part in a Greyhound Walk and loved being around all the other greyhounds. She is an inquisitive girlie and likes to explore new areas. This darling girl does still need work on her low confidence as she can still be quite unsure in new situations, but she is learning at a steady pace. She is fast picking up all the traits of her greyhound housemates – including greeting her fosterer with a ‘song’ in the morning! She also knows basic commands such as ‘down’, ‘come’ and ‘bed’ and is happy to do what is asked of her. She has also learned to wait patiently for her food and will only start eating when told so by her fosterer. Jess is definitely a dog that thrives when given boundaries, and can become stressed and anxious if she doesn’t know what to do. She is very eager to learn, however, and in the right kind of home this little girl will be a real gem. **UPDATE: FEBRUARY 2011** Sweet little Jess is continuing to adjust nicely to her foster home while she waits to be adopted. She enjoys having the other greyhounds for company, and has settled nicely into her fosterer’s routine. As you can see, one of her favourite activities is sleeping! Jess is sure to make a perfect forever friend for the right person. Jess is currently in foster care in Hertfordshire, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to meet and collect her. She is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. It’s a joy to see this little girl open up and relax in her surroundings, as she was so untrusting and withdrawn when we first took her in. Jess is a completely different dog now to when we first got her. She is learning to play chase in the garden with her greyhound foster brother and sister, and takes great joy from being both the chase-r and the chase-e. She is relaxed beautifully in the house and now loves nothing more than to flip over on her back in a classic hound ‘roaching’ pose! Jess shares her space amiably with her two hound friends, and has never once grumbled about it. She loves being with other greyhounds and we feel a home with another hound already present would be her absolute ideal. Jess hasn’t yet met a lot of other breeds of dog when out on walks, but has been polite and mannerly with all the dogs she has met. She frequently joins her fosterer on greyhound group walks and absolutely loves meeting all the other hounds. It gives her confidence when she is surrounded by them. Jess is sure to be a beautiful addition to the right family. Routine is key for this girlie and she can become stressed and anxious without it. Once the trust is built up, however, Jess is a fab, loyal girl who still has so much potential waiting to be unlocked. 6. JOSEPH Joseph is a 3 year old ex-racing greyhound boy. He is a big black fella with intelligent eyes. He is sure to be a gorgeous looking boy once his coat gains a bit of shine and condition. Joseph has not been with us long so we are still assessing his personality. He is a little shy and confused right now, uncertain of his new surroundings. We are confident that once he comes out of his shell a bit more, he’s going to be a really lovely boy. So far Joseph has been great with our other greyhounds, and tends to be a bit more relaxed when in their company. As such we feel he would do best in a home with another, more outgoing dog already established so that he can lean on and learn from them. He has not been tested yet with smaller dogs or cats, but these will be carried out prior to adoption. Joseph has not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding and patient at the start and allow him time to settle and get accustomed to the huge changes. It shouldn’t take him more than a couple of weeks to settle down. Like most greyhounds, Joseph will not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area once or twice a week. **UPDATE: JANUARY 2011** Joseph has now travelled across to the UK where he is waiting for his forever home. Joseph is a quiet little chap who could do with gaining some confidence. Right now he views the world from the back of the crowd and we are hoping that once he is getting the one-on-one attention that can only come from a home environment, he will start to come out of his shell. If you are interested in fostering this lovely boy, please do contact us. Joseph enjoys the company of other dogs, though does need to be fed on his own right now as he can get defensive of his food bowl. Again this type of issue often dissipates once the dog is in a secure home environment. When there is no food involved, Joseph is a lovely sociable boy with our other greyhounds and shares his kennel with a doggie friend. **UPDATE: FEBRUARY 2011** Dear Joseph is patiently waiting for his forever sofa, but in the meantime is fortunate enough to be moved in to foster care. This beautiful boy is getting to experience the joys and comforts of a secure home environment for the first time in his life, and boy is he lapping up the attention! So far Joseph has been an ace houseguest, and is currently learning the do’s and don’ts about living in a home. We will update with his progress very soon. He is sure to make someone a fabulous family friend. **UPDATE: MARCH 2011** Dear Joseph is still waiting for his forever sofa, but he is having a blast in his foster home while he waits! Joseph is an absolute star of a dog and has adapted to the home life so quickly and smoothly, you’d think he had always been a lap dog! Joseph is the perfect gent in and around the house. He is toilet trained, non destructive, calm and ok to be left with another dog for company. He is such a gentle, polite boy with everyone and everything; it’s a delight to be around him. Joseph has become very smitten with a little JRT he is sharing his foster home with, and as you can see they are completely adorable together. Joseph is very gentle when playing with her, and clearly doesn’t mind being walked all over! This gorgeous boy has put on a good bit of condition since entering his foster home, and now has a beautifully sleek and shiny coat. He is a very elegant boy who is sure to attract a lot of attention when out and about. Joseph is going to make an absolutely fantastic family friend and loyal companion for whoever decides to adopt him. He would be a very good boy for a first time greyhound owner as he is so happy, polite and well balanced. He is just now starting to play with toys and it’s a joy to see. All Joseph needs is love and he is a very happy boy. Joseph is currently being fostered in Sudbury, UK. He can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to meet and collect him. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. 7. PANTHER Panther is a 5 year old ex-racing greyhound boy. He has worked hard during his racing life and it is definitely time for him to retire and discover the comforts of the home life. He is a rather striking black tuxedo boy with white trim and beautiful, piercing eyes. Panther is a lovely quiet boy who is very content with the simple things in life. He relishes any chance to just stretch out and relax in the sun, and has a very calm, quiet demeanour. Panther loves people too and will soak up any attention you give him, though is not in your face about asking for more. He is polite and mannerly and all in all a very easy boy to keep happy. Panther has sadly spent all of his life in racing kennels, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding during the first couple of weeks and allow him time to get accustomed to the home environment. It usually takes 10-14 days for new greyhounds to start to settle down in a home, and really all they need is a bit of time and patience. It probably wont take Panther long to find the sofa! Gorgeous Panther has not yet been tested with small dogs but this can be carried out prior to adoption. Often ex-racing greyhounds take a bit of work on socialising to realise smaller breeds are in fact dogs as they would never have seen them before. He is not cat friendly. Like most greyhounds, Panther will not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30 min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week. In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers. **UPDATE: AUGUST 2010** Panther is still waiting for his forever home. He is a lovely easy going boy who is friendly and affectionate with everyone. We are sure he’s going to make a beautiful couch potato! Since coming to us Panther has made friends with another newcomer, Oscar (pictured below). Panther and Oscar have become great buddies and a home for two would be their idea of heaven. Oscar is a slightly timid boy and Panther’s calm, easy going nature has done wonders with Oscar and really helped him come out of his shell. They can be homed separately, however, if the right home comes up. **UPDATE: NOVEMBER 2010** Panther has now travelled across to the UK where he waits for his forever home, ideally with his best mate Oscar. We would like to find these bro’s a home together, but they can be separated if the right single homes come along. **UPDATE: DECEMBER 2010** Panther is doing very well in our UK kennels and remains a very soft, cuddly boy. He is still the leader for his friend Oscar who does still lean on him when uncertain in unfamiliar situations. We would love to find a foster home for this pair as they are sure to truly blossom once in a loving home environment. Right now Panther is very excitable around small dogs, having never seen them before. He is not suitable to go to a home with small toy or terrier breeds, and must be muzzled when out in areas with other dogs running around him. We are appealing for an experienced owner for this lovely boy and his friend Oscar, who are comfortable with keeping him muzzled and understand that his reaction to small dogs does not reflect on his suitability as a perfect house pet. Apart from this Panther is a really superb boy who is more than content with some good food, a warm bed and lots of cuddles. Like many ex-racing greyhounds, Oscar is now learning that dogs can come in all shapes and sizes. Right now he is excitable around small dogs and must be muzzled when they’re around. With lots of positive socialisation with many different dogs this boy will improve, however, all he needs is a bit of time and patience. We are requesting experienced owners for this boy and his pal Panther, who understand the need for them to be muzzled but who know what fantastic house pets they will make. **UPDATE: JANUARY 2011** Panther is still looking for his forever home with his best mate Oscar. We would love to find this boy a short term foster home while he waits to be adopted, as we feel he now needs the one-on-one attention that only a foster home can give for him to truly start to blossom. **UPDATE: FEBRUARY 2011** Panther is continuing to wait for his forever home, but has now moved in to foster care. This is Panther’s first time experiencing a home, and he is being a fantastic boy. He has quickly gotten the hang of housetraining, and all he wants to do is spread out on his soft bed and snooze the afternoons away. He is a lovely, affectionate boy and is lapping up all the contact from his fosterers. We will update with this boys progress once he has settled a bit more in to the foster home. **UPDATE: APRIL 2011** The gorgeous panther is ready and waiting to be adopted. He has been in his foster home now for 5 weeks, and has truly made himself at home. After just a few weeks his kennel coat is already falling out and a beautiful, healthy shiny coat is replacing it. It won’t be long before he’s a very sleek, satin soft stunner of a hound. Panther’s fosterer describes him as ‘an adorable dope of a hound who loves people and is wonderful with my two teenage boys’. He is very chilled-out in the house and quite the lazy boy, loving nothing more than to stretch out on his duvet and snooze the afternoon away. He has been completely houseclean from the word go and is relishing his home comforts. Panther is always a very happy and jolly chap and is a true pleasure to be around. He is learning all about play right now and adores having someone to play with, be it human or canine. He is quite often found loping around the garden, running for the sheer joy of it. Panther is also quite the inquisitive boy and when he first arrived he had to investigate eeeeevery single item in the home. He was particularly fascinated by the garden pond and after his fosterers commented that one day he’s going to fall in, he did just that the next morning! Everybody got a bit of a shock to see a very soggy greyhound sprinting back into the house! Poor Panther was recently attacked by another dog and suffered some bite wounds to his rear end. These are healing up beautifully now, however, and he is doing very well in himself. He is getting on brilliantly with the other greyhound girls he shares his foster home with and is very amiable with them. He has bonded especially well to a little lurcher called Elfie, who is also looking for her forever home. This lovely boy adores his walks and his fosterer’s are taking their time to introduce him to other dogs. He is fine with other greyhounds and lurchers (in any sizes) and has been on a number of greyhound walks where he has always been impeccably behaved. When the dogs are not greyhound shaped, however, he is still quite interested and may bark if he sees a dog walking in the distance. If given time and gentle but firm guidance, however, Panther does settle down and with lots of repetition we are confident that he will learn to accept other dog breeds. He just needs to get used to seeing them. He needs someone who is prepared for his reaction and with time and patience he will be a fab dog. So please have a look and consider this wonderful boy, he has a lot of love to give his fosterer’s and they are very smitten with him. Panther will be a lovely addition to a family home and a very affectionate boy with family members. This gorgeous lad is currently being fostered in Suffolk, UK. He can be homed throughout the UK but please note that you will be required to travel to meet and collect him. He is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. 8. ISLA Meet the beautiful little Isla (pronounced ‘eye-la’). Isla is a little fawn lurcher puppy with the sweetest little black face who was found as a stray in Ireland. She is most likely a whippet cross and shouldn’t get to be very big. Isla has unfortunately had a very bad start to life. She is about 4 months old, but when she was first picked up she was thought to be only 1 or 2 months as she is so tiny. She was found in a very underweight and undernourished condition with a heavy parasite burden and a tummy bug, but thankfully was rescued just in the nick of time. Isla is now in a loving foster home where she is finally getting all the love and nourishment she needs. She is on a good quality puppy food in small but frequent doses and has been treated for worms and fleas. She also had the very beginnings of mange, brought on by her poor condition, but this has rapidly cleared up with some medicated washes and a good diet. Despite being so very poorly, Isla never stopped doing all the things a puppy does. She is a real little fighter and such a sweet girlie. She is coming on in leaps and bounds in her foster home, and has a real zest for life now that she’s finally getting the nourishment she needs. Isla is doing well in her foster home, and is currently learning all about housetraining. She is also learning all about ripping up newspapers! Her fosterer has started her on basic training and she already comes bounding to you if you whistle. She is sharing her foster home with other dogs and is a sociable little girl. Isla is also suitable to go to a home with cats. As with all puppies, Isla is very inquisitive about her surroundings and is in to everything. She will need a puppy-proofed home with someone around a lot of the time, especially when she is so young. We would also strongly recommend Isla’s new adopters take her to puppy socialisation and training classes so that she can continue to grow up in to a social, well adjusted little lady. This beautiful little girl deserves a loving home where she can get all the TLC and affection that has been denied her. She is sure to make a smashing family pet. Isla is currently being fostered in South East Ireland. She is available for adoption, but will need to gain weight and better health before she can travel to her new home. Potential adopters will also need to agree to have her neutered when she is old enough (at approx 6 mths of age) and unfortunately Kerry Greyhound Connection is unable to help with the costs of this operation. She can be transported via Kerry Greyhounds to the UK if a suitable home offer comes up. This will be organised and paid for by Kerry Greyhounds, and we ask only for a donation to help cover costs. Please note that adopters will need to travel to our nearest collection point to pick her up, and if you are in the UK and wish to meet before adopting her, she will be fostered in the Norfolk area. Isla is vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. If you are interested in adopting little Isla, please email me on [email protected] for our adoption application form and information pack. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs. 9. CLARENCE Say hello to the fabulous Clarence! Clarence is a 1-2 year old lurcher, likely greyhound x whippet, who was found straying in a bad condition in Ireland. The poor boy was very thin and had large abscessed wounds on his head with a skin infection to boot. Several weeks on and with some gentle TLC, Clarence is now fighting fit once again. His facial wounds have healed and antibiotics have cleared up his skin infection nicely. He has also gained at least 20-25% of his body weight. He is smaller and more slender than the average sized greyhound, and his gorgeous light fawn coat now sparkles in the sun. Now the he is feeling better, Clarence’s character is showing itself, and what a character this little hound has! He is a feisty, fun-loving dog that loves to love life. His tail is always wagging and he absolutely adores any and all interaction with both people and canines. He is a cheeky boy and will likely test his boundaries when going to his new home, but you can’t help but smile at his antics and fun-seeking personality. Clarence would be perfect for an active family who enjoy being out doing things and meeting people. He is good with other dogs of all sizes and could live with one or several houndy companions, though perhaps not with an overly timid friend as he likes to play rough, lurcher style! He is not cat friendly. With a little bit of patience and a gentle but firm command, this boy has the potential to be a fantastic family companion. Clarence is currently being kept in kennels and has not yet been in a home, but usually greyhounds and lurchers adjust to this change very quickly. It generally takes about 10-14 days for them to start to settle in a home, and really all they need is time and patience. **UPDATE: FEBRUARY 2011** Dear Clarence has been waiting a long time for his forever home, and we cant understand why – this boy is a stunner! Please note that after being re-assessed by a different vet, Clarence older than 1-2 years and is more likely to be a middle-aged boy at around 5-6 years. The poor boy has been finding kennel life very stressful, and has now moved in to a foster home where he has done a complete turn-around, both physically and mentally. Clarence was suffering from stress-related digestive problems, but this has disappeared with incredible speed. He is on a sensitive digestion formula and has had no problems at all since moving to foster care. He has put on 1 kg and is now proudly weighing in at 18 kg! The skin infection that had been on his face had started to come back, though biopsies taken showed no nasties. After a short course if antibiotics, this is now healing up once and for all. Clarence is one very happy boy in his foster home, and is soaking up all the affection and attention like a big fawn sponge. He absolutely thrives with people and is a very human-orientated hound. His fosterers are very smitten with him and he has earned the nickname ‘Mr. Cuddle Wigglybum’! In return for all the love, Clarence is a very attentive boy and his life centers around pleasing his people. He just wants to be with you and to make you happy. We feel Clarence would do best in a home where he can be around his owners for most of the time – perhaps a home where people work part time, or work from home, or are retired. Clarence would also be a good boy to bring to work with you as he is more than happy to snooze away after his walk, contented in knowing you are simply in the room with him. Clarence’s behaviour with other dogs has also drastically improved now that he is out of the stressful kennels. He is an absolute socialite and loves playing with other dogs he meets out on his walks. His fosterer’s take him hiking, which he loves, and also take him to work with them where he has made friends with all the other dogs. He is a fantastic boy! We really hope to find Clarence his forever home as soon as possible, as it will only increase his stress to be moved from his current fosterer’s if he bonds too closely with them. Clarence is going to make a fabulous hound and he has very few flaws. He loves the car, walks excellently on the lead, is good with other dogs and is a cuddler extraordinaire! Clarence is currently being fostered with the SPCA in Co. Wexford, Ireland. Kerry Greyhound Connection is helping to find this boy his forever home. He can be transported via Kerry Greyhounds to the UK if a suitable home offer comes up. This will be organised and paid for by Kerry Greyhounds/Wexford SPCA, and we ask only for a donation to help cover costs. Please note that adopters will need to travel to our nearest collection point to pick him up. He is neutered, vaccinated, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. 10. TOTO AND TINY Toto and Tiny are two 2 year old greyhounds that are litter brother and sister. They are both fawn brindle hounds with beautiful markings and intelligent eyes. These two lovely dogs are young, playful and full of fun. They have never raced and have been handled nicely by people in the past, making them very affectionate, friendly hounds who love to be loved by people. They are active and inquisitive greyhounds who greatly enjoy being out and about. They have spent their whole lives together so far and we don't have the heart to separate them now. Often taking on two hounds at once can be easier than just one, as they can keep each other company when left alone and can help each other settle in to the new home environment. They are sure to make a fantastic, fun loving pair that will keep their new adopters well entertained! Toto and Tiny have not yet been in a home environment, having spent their whole lives in kennels. New owners will need to be a bit patient and understanding at the start while they get their bearings in the new home environment, but being a pair, they will also provide reassurance and support for each other in the often stressful first weeks of acclimatisation. Toto and Tiny are both neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and de-flea'd and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. **UPDATE: JUNE 2010** Toto and Tiny have travelled across to Norfolk, UK where they are currently in a foster home with cats to see if they are cat trainable. These two lovely hounds make a beautiful pair and get on really well together. They are mannerly dogs who walk nicely on the lead and have a friendly, playful demeanour. Like most greyhounds, Toto and Tiny will not need a huge amount of exercise. They will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch their legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week. In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs who are well used to being handled. **UPDATE: JULY 2010** Toto and Tiny have been in a foster home with a cat for the last few weeks and are doing very well. They are two bouncy, happy hounds who are full of fun and games. Unfortunately the cat has decided to go into hiding since the arrival of two big dogs, so they are yet to be properly tested with her! They have loads of potential and would do very well in a relatively active family with perhaps other dogs or children to play with and keep them occupied. Toto and Tiny have been very good in their foster home. They are now fully housetrained and ok to be left with each other for company. They are quiet through the night, though Toto likes to tell everyone else when its time to get up in the mornings! Out and about, Toto and Tiny are a joy to be around. They are very curious and want to explore everything. They love meeting other dogs and have been very good with every one they have met, large and small. They love meeting new people too, though Tiny does like to jump up if she gets excited. This is being worked on with her fosterer and she is learning that not everyone appreciates a big greyhound bear hug! Toto and Tiny’s fosterer says they are “a pleasure to look after – friendly, affectionate and easy to walk. On the whole – a lovely easygoing pair of dogs for some lucky person!” **UPDATE: OCTOBER 2010** Toto and Tiny continue to do well in their foster home, though they may end up not being 100% cat trustable. This is being worked on in their foster home, but we fell that right now they are not completely suitable to live in a home with cats. Apart from that, however, they are a brilliant doggie duo and get on very well together. They are fantastic in the house and love their daily walks. Toto and Tiny would settle very well in to most home situations and are sure to give back what they get in spades. They recently went to our KGC annual greyhound walk in Norfolk and really enjoyed their day out. They made lots of doggie friends and loved getting so much attention from the crowds of people. Toto and Tiny are now in a foster home in Norfolk, UK where they wait to be adopted. They are both neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, wormed and de-flea'd and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. If you are interested in adopting these lovely hounds, please email me on [email protected] for our information pack and adoption questionnaire which must be filled out prior to adoption. 11. TAZ Meet the very special Taz. Taz is a 7 year old greyhound lady who was used for breeding for several years before being handed in to us. She has a truly stunning brindle tiger-striped coat that is in fabulous condition now, and her face is bright and intelligent. Dear Taz has had a traumatic life so far and came to us very fearful of everything and everyone. She was very run down, both mentally and physically. After several months’ rehabilitation in a loving foster home, however, this little lady is now completely unrecognisable from the fearful, untrusting dog that first came to us. She is a happy, sociable girl who loves greeting people, adores her walks and relishes her home comforts. Taz was handed in with her son Earl, who is sadly much more traumatised than his mother and still needs further rehabilitation before being ready for his new home. Taz, though, is definitely ready for her forever sofa, so we feel it best to rehome them separately. She has truly blossomed over the past few months, and we are so proud of her progress. Taz now adores people and loves getting a fuss from anyone. She greets strangers at the door with a big waggy tail and is gentle and mannerly with everyone. She has an understanding of basic commands and is a clever girl with a beautiful character. Taz has been living in a foster home for several months now, and is very used to the home life. She is brilliantly behaved in the home and is content to just lay about and snooze in between her walks and short bursts of playfulness in the garden. She is clean through the night and is ok to be left with other dogs for company. She is a real sunflower and loves to roach out on her back, soaking up the rays. She also has a quirky love for apples and blackberries, and will even pick them herself from the trees and hedges! One of Taz’s big loves in life is her walks. She adores getting out and about and gets so excited when she sees her fosterer getting ready for ‘walkie time’. She is now very good at coping with new environments and situations, and didn’t bat an eyelid when she visited the beach for the first time. Recently she even went on a holiday with her fosterers and coped fantastically with the brand new surroundings and altered routine. Sudden noises or loud trucks can still scare her a bit, but she continues to make improvements and can usually be distracted by some really yummy treats. She walks well on the lead, loves going in the car and is inquisitive about the world around her. Taz is in general good with other dogs, and currently shares her foster home with several other dogs including another greyhound and a small crossbreed, all of whom she gets on very well with. She is comfortable sharing her bed with them and waits her turn when treats are being ‘dispensed’. As often typical of the older ladies, Taz likes to feel respected and will grumble at another dog who jumps all over her. If the other dog respects her space, though, she is a lovely, amiable lady hound. Taz can become over-excited if she sees lots of little dogs running around, or if she sees a dog coming towards her when on walks. She does sometimes become a bit barky, but can usually be nicely distracted by a yummy treat and responds to a correction if its needed. With a bit more practice at meeting other dogs when out and about, Taz should soon overcome this hurdle. Her fosterer is working on this with her now. Dear Taz has had a long, harsh life and we are searching for a special retirement home for her to relax in and get all the love she deserves. She would do very well with another male dog of a similar age, or could also live happily as an only dog provided she’s not left alone for long periods of time. Her fosterer is still working on getting her comfortable with being left alone and this is a work in progress. Despite approaching her golden years, Taz is still an alert and inquisitive girl who enjoys all exercise – walks and runs. She likes having 2 walks a day with the occasional off-lead run in an enclosed area to let off some steam, and we would ideally like for her new owners to continue a similar regime with her in the future. Taz is currently in foster care in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to the foster home to meet and collect her. She is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. 12. CAIRO Cairo is a 2 year old male greyhound with a pretty black and white marked coat. Poor Cairo ended his racing career when he broke his hock before being surrendered to us. This has now healed up and he is just starting to use his leg again. Cairo is a quiet, undemanding fellow who is very friendly and sweet with people knows. He can be a little lacking in confidence, but this will change once he's in a loving home and gets to see more of the world outside of kennels. He is good with other greyhounds and walks nicely on the lead. Sweet Cairo has never been in a home environment and so will need a 'settling in' period when first adopted. He hasn't yet been tested with cats or small dogs, but these can be organised prior to adoption if needed. **UPDATE: JULY 2010** Cairo is now well settled in the kennels in Norfolk, and is comfortable in the routine. He is a friendly and affectionate boy with an impressive black and white coat. His broken hock is completely healed and Cairo now loves his walks, it's the highlight of his day. Cairo grew up in racing kennels so sadly was not well socialised with other dogs as a puppy. Right now he doesn't realise that dogs come in non-greyhound shapes, and is very excitable around them. He needs lots of socialisation with reward based training to learn that all dogs are dogs, as once he realises this he is very well behaved with them. He is very responsive to both his name and food treats, so training isn't particularly difficult with him, all that is needed is repetition. Like most greyhounds, Cairo does not need a huge amount of exercise. He is content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week. Greyhounds also don't shed as much as €other dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers. Cairo is a lovely boy in all other aspects, and is sure to make a very rewarding member of the family once he gets someone willing to work in his socialisation issue. **UPDATE: JULY 2010b** Cairo is continuing to improve on a weekly basis with his regular training, and is getting better at meeting other dogs while out on walks. He is a lovely affectionate boy who adores being around people. What Cairo needs now is a nurturing foster home where he can continue to improve with one-on-one care and training. It is definitely time this lovely fella got to experience some home comforts and learn about what its like to live in a house. He is sure to give back tenfold what he gets. **UPDATE: AUGUST 2010** The stunning Cairo took part in the annual Cromer Carnival in Norfolk, UK recently, and really enjoyed his day out. He loved meeting all the different people and greyhound friends, and getting lots of fuss and attention. Though he was muzzled as a precaution, he behaved very well with the other types of dogs there and after his initial excitement decided there were far too many to keep an eye on! He is a truly lovely boy with a striking coat and is going to make a fantastic companion for the right family. **UPDATE: SEPTEMBER 2010** The gorgeous Cairo has now moved in to a foster home, and has made amazing progress in a short amount of time. Getting one-on-one attention and training in a loving home environment is exactly what this boy needed, and he fast becoming a perfectly well adjusted dog. Cairo's carer says he is one of the nicest dogs she has ever fostered. He is an amiable gentle giant of a dog who is now co-existing happily alongside 5 other dogs (including a small terrier), a parrot and several horses. Cairo is clean in the house, travels beautifully in the car and is ok to be left both with other dogs and completely alone. He isn't cat friendly but is getting used to seeing cats and not getting overly excited. Cairo is also vastly improving when out and about. He walks calmly on the lead and his behaviour when meeting other dogs is getting better daily. He is fine when he knows the dog, but he is still learning to be polite around small dogs he doesn't know and can get a bit reactive if an unknown small dog runs up to him offlead. Because of this he is walked with a muzzle for now. Living with so many dogs is certainly helping him improve, but new owners will need to continue his small dog socialisation to help him eventually become small dog safe. Cairo likes children and is calm and relaxed around them. His playful side is now emerging and he enjoys playing with soft toys, throwing them in the air and charging around with them. He would do very well in a family home with young kiddies to play with, though he would do equally well on his own with an older person. He is also very good with dogs once they are integrated in to his 'pack'. This wonderful boy is ready for his new home and definitely deserves his chance. Whoever decides to give him his forever sofa will never regret it. **UPDATE: NOVEMBER 2010** Dear Cairo is still waiting for his forever home, though we can't understand why! He is a fabulous boy now and his initial dog issues have resolved, making him a perfect family pet. We hope to find Cairo his forever home by Christmas! Cairo is being fostered in Norfolk, UK. He is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped before being adopted, and a home check will be required as part of the adoption procedure. Our Website: www.kerrygreyhounds.co.uk If interested in one of our hounds, please EMAIL or PM me for our adoption application form and information pack. Once you have filled in and returned the application form, we will then telephone you to discuss adopting one of our hounds in more detail. I can be contacted via PM or through the following email: Email: [email protected] Thank you.
