  3. IRIS **UPDATED: JUNE 2013** Location: Kennels in Norfolk, UK. Iris would love a foster home while she waits for her forever home. Key Points: Quiet, calm, affectionate and cuddly once she knows you, walks to heel, ok traveller, good with the other dogs she has met. Beautiful Iris is a 2 year old greyhound girl who was discarded from the racing world when she wasn’t fast enough to keep pace. She is now looking for a loving family to call her own. Iris is a pretty lady with a lovely white and black splotched coat that will be truly splendid once her thick kennel coat is brushed out. Iris is quite large for a girly hound and quite striking. ~ Personality ~ Generally: Quietly loving, bit withdrawn at first, needs some TLC to come out of herself. Iris is a sweet lady with a delicate, calm personality. She can be a bit shy and withdrawn first but give her some yummy treats and quiet TLC and she soon comes out of herself. This is a dog who will completely blossom once in a home environment and we can't wait to see her out of kennels. Somewhere in there is a cheeky little minx dying to play with toys and roach on sofas. ~ In the Home ~ Generally: Not yet in a home. Iris has not been in a home environment before, so new owners will need to be a bit patient during the first couple of weeks and allow her time to settle in and learn the home rules. It generally takes 10-14 days for new greyhounds to start to settle down in a home, and really all they need is a bit of time and patience. ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: Good with the other dogs she has met, not introduced to small breeds or cats yet. Iris is well behaved with the other dogs n the kennels. She has not been tested with small dogs or cats but these can be carried out prior to adoption if required. ~ Out and About ~ Generally: Walks to heel, attentive, biddable, polite and mannerly. Iris walks well on the lead and is attentive to her walker. Like most greyhounds, Iris will not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week. ~ Greyhounds as Pets ~ In general greyhounds are calm, mannerly dogs that are well used to being handled. They can fit very well in to a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. ~ Where Am I? ~ Iris is currently being kennelled in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you will be required to travel to us in Norfolk to meet her. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Iris is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. This girl would greatly benefit from being in a foster home, and Kerry Greyhounds UK is always in desperate need of new fosterers. It is such a rewarding experience, and costs are covered by the rescue. If you are interested in adopting or fostering Iris, you can contact me (Tam) via email: [email protected], or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. 6. **UPDATED: 31 MAY 2013** Location: Kennels in Norfolk, UK. Spirit would love a foster home while he waits for his forever family, hes been in kennels for far too long. Key Points: Super dog, huge potential, active mind, loves people, friendly, dog savvy, travels well, would flourish in an active home who will exercise his body and his brain. The beautiful Spirit is a 1 year old lurcher boy who is looking for a forever family to call his own. He is a fab young dog with a sleek, shiny coat and just needs a bit more muscling before he’s an absolute stunner. Spirit was very lucky to be rescued from a potentially not-so-nice life, and his only remnant of this bad start is his docked tail. Spirit recently visited the talented Madaboutgreys Studio and now has some fabulous beauty shots! http://www.madaboutgreys.com/ ~ Personality ~ Generally: Friendly, exuberant, loves life, has basic training, needs work on focusing and attention span, huge potential. Spirit lives up to his name, as he’s simply full of it! He’s a lovely, exuberant, active boy who is crying out for someone to play with him and show him fun things to do. He has a very bright mind that really needs a job to do. Spirit would be fantastic at something active and exciting such as agility or flyball. We think he’d be a pro! Spirit loves people and is super friendly He’ll smother you in kisses, and befriends everyone he meets. He can have the occasional moment of nervousness, though that is often seen in adolescent dogs and is something they grow out of with some confidence building. He seems to know the basic commands, but needs more work on his ability to focus and concentrate. This boy needs positive training with tasty treats and engaging interactions to learn and grow. He is still just a puppy, after all! ~ In the Home ~ Generally: Not yet in a home. Clean in his kennel. Loves toys. Spirit has sadly not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding at the start and give him time to learn the house rules. Spirit is clean in his kennel, which suggests that he may not take long to master the art of housetraining. He will likely be very inquisitive and curious about the brand new home environment, but should soon get a grasp of the house rules. He LOVES to play and is guaranteed to be a fantastically rewarding family member. We can't stress enough how super this dog is! ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: Adores dogs, loves playing chase, would do best living with another dog(s). Spirit has been ace with all the other dogs he has met. He loves canine company, and adores nothing more than a good hard run with someone who can keep up with him. He is non-confrontational with other dogs, accepts a telling off, and is also more happy and adjusted in their company. He would be delighted to live in a home with another playful dog or two present to help burn any excess energy. Spirit has not been tested with cats yet, but this can be carried out if required. ~ Out and About ~ Generally: Learning to walk to heel, excellent in the car, social and curious. Being just a puppy, Spirit does have more energy and healthy exuberance than your average adult greyhound. He does still have his ‘flop on the grass’ moments, but also loves to be active and use his brain. He would absolutely flourish in a fairly active home that will take him on long walks, offlead romps, and show him the world. His lead training is a work in progress but he is getting there quite quickly – right now if he sees another dog, he wants to say hi ‘right now!’ He travels great in the car and settles down straight away. With a decent amount of time on recall training and bond building in the home first, Spirit will be suitable to be let offlead in safe areas away from public roads and livestock. This boy would be a really good jogging companion. He pulls strongly on the lead right now, but this is being worked on. It is definitely something that can easily be overcome with a bit of work. ~ Where Am I? ~ Spirit is currently in kennels in Norfolk. He can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you may be required to travel to our rescue to meet and collect him. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Spirit is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. This dear boy would benefit so very much from a chance to live in a foster home and Kerry Greyhounds UK is always eager for new foster volunteers. It is an extremely rewarding experience and costs are covered by us. If you are interested in adopting or fostering Spirit, you can contact me (Tam) via email: [email protected], or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs. There are application forms for both adopting and fostering Spirit, and we will ask you to fill the relevant one in as the first step in the adoption/fostering process. 7. MISSY **UPDATED: 7th JULY 2013** Location: Foster home in Hertfordshire, UK. Key Points: Wonderful lady, loving, laid back, affectionate, good with other dogs, travels well, walks to heel, house savvy, suitable as only dog or as canine companion. Missy is a very beautiful 5 year old blue greyhound girl who is now looking for a loving home after a long racing career. Missy has a very beautiful steel grey coat and a wonderfully soft expression. She is fairly stocky for a ‘lady hound’ and currently weighs in around 29kg. ~ Personality ~ Generally: Affectionate when she knows you, easy going, extremely chilled and laid back, undemanding, learning to play. Missy is a lovely, sweet, gentle lady who doesn’t ask for much and is very happy in herself. In the house she is extremely chilled out and doesn’t ask for anything other than a soft sofa to stretch out on. She can appear a bit reserved with strangers, but this is simply because she is so laid back. She doesn’t need to be in your face to enjoy your company, and as she continues to bond to her foster parents, we are seeing more and more of her very sweet and loving side. We also think she has a wee playful streak in there waiting to show itself. ~ In the Home ~ Generally: House savvy, excellently behaved in the home, no issues, very calm and sedate. Missy has been in her foster home for about 7 weeks now, and is very settled. She is a naturally laid back, calm, un-fussed girl who very much enjoys the quiet life, and MUST have her home comforts! Missy is very well behaved in the home and is incredibly chilled out. She is housetrained, doesn’t chew or steal items, ok to be left with canine company and really just likes mooching around the house in between her siestas. She is responsive to your direction and will happily abide by the house rules without complaint. Missy is sharing her foster home with 3 other dogs of varying ages, and gets on just fine with them all. She is very good at sharing both food and attention, and will happily wait her turn. She is also very comfortable in her own skin and doesn’t need to follow the other dogs around or rely on them for guidance. As such, we feel Missy could cope very well with being an only dog provided she was given enough mental stimulation throughout the day to prevent boredom. She would also be a good calm, centered companion for a more insecure or energetic dog, and she may herself benefit from having a playful buddy to bring her out of her shell a bit more. ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: Very good with other dogs, usually polite and laid back, can get overexcited with small offlead dogs and may need a bit of care for first minute of introduction. Missy is generally very good with other dogs and is very polite in meeting them. She may need a bit of care if small dogs are running around offlead which can excite her make her weave a bit on the lead, but if introduced calmly to other dogs she is fine. She has met several small dogs on lead now and has always been good with them even if they try to jump all over her. She is wonderfully laid back and takes things as they come. She is not suitable to live with cats. ~ Out and About ~ Generally: Walks to heel, good traveller, doesn’t require much exercise, generally good at meeting dogs and people, can pull if sees cat. Like most greyhounds, she will not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week. Missy walks to heel and is very well behaved with the exception of seeing a cat or a dog in the distance, in which case she will pull a bit and may weave/bark. Her foster mum is working with her on this and she is making steady improvement with the more dogs she meets. She loves going on car trips. ~ Missy is currently in foster care in Hertfordshire, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you may be required to travel to the foster home to meet and collect her. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Missy is vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. She is currently in heat so has not been neutered yet, but please don’t let that stop you from asking about her. We don’t expect her to be waiting very long! If you are interested in adopting Missy, you can contact me (Tam) via email: [email protected], or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs. 8. STAR **UPDATED: MAY 2013** Location: Foster home in Norfolk, UK. Key Points: Bubbly, playful, super affectionate, loves kids, cheeky monkey, would benefit from further canine socialisation, walks well on lead, has an active mind that needs stimulation. Scrumptious Star is a little 3-legged whippet x lurcher girl who is looking for a forever family to call her own. She is approx 1.5 years old and fairly petite with a lovely shiny black coat. She’s cute as a button! Star was rescued in Ireland and had to have her leg amputated due to a bad break. Having just 3 paws poses her no problems at all, however, and she tears around the garden like a completely normal pooch. ~ Personality ~ Generally: Very loving & cuddly, responsive, cheeky, playful, bubbly. Star is lovely little cheeky minx. She’s very playful, super affectionate and really loves people. Being a ‘tripod’ dog doesn’t slow her down in the slightest and she’s a bouncy cuddly little girl who loves to run and play. She is incredibly affectionate and always ready to give some kisses. She is suitable to live with children over the age of 8, and loves kids because kids love to play! She is also quite responsive to people and lives for the one-on-one attention involved in teaching her new tricks or obedience. ~ In the Home ~ Generally: Housetrained, can chew if bored, ok to be left, can live with another dog with proper introductions. Star is very good in the home and was housetrained from the start. She’s very playful and a constant source of laughs for her foster parents. She is still quite puppyish in behaviour and will occasionally chew things in the home if she gets bored. She is a moderately active little girlie who greatly enjoys a challenge and a chance to further bond with her people, making training her hugely beneficial for everyone involved. She is fine to be left provided she has lots of toys and maybe a stuffed Kong to keep her busy. Star is sharing her foster home with a small menagerie of pets including 4 other dogs, 5 chickens and 2 gerbils. She is still adjusting to living with other dogs, though now gets on well with the pooches in her foster home. She adores people and strongly gravitates to them. When moving to her new home, a bit of care may be needed to ensure this strong love of her humans doesn’t result in the formation of separation anxiety, and our behaviourist is on hand to help with that transition if needed. ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: Good with some dogs, becomes vocal at times. Needs confidence building. Not cat friendly. Star currently has mixed feelings about other canines, though she is greatly improving. She is completely fine with some dogs but can get vocal with others at times. If unfamiliar dogs are reactive, she will mirror that and react back. She is having regular sessions with our behaviourist at the moment and making great progress. She’s such a young girl and most of it is believed to be simply adolescent ‘teenager drama’! We will provide continuing backup from our behaviourist when Star enters her new home to ensure it goes smoothly. Star is not cat friendly, but now ignores the chicken enclosure in her foster home. ~ Out and About ~ Generally: Walks well on lead, travels ok for short journeys but gets motion sick on longer trips. Star walks well on the lead and really loves getting out and about, seeing the world. She travels ok in the car though can sometimes get sick on long journeys. We hope this motion sickness will pass as she gets used to travelling in the car, and she is currently fine on short journeys to the local park and shops etc. She is very social with people and loves making new friends, though can be overly vocal in meeting unfamiliar dogs. Star is fine in busy and built up areas, not much phases her. ~ Where Am I? ~ Star is currently in foster care in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a home checker available, but please note that you may be required to travel to the foster home to meet and collect her. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Star is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. 9. SNOOP **UPDATED: MAY 2013** Location: Kennels in Norfolk, UK. Snoop would love a foster home while he waits for his forever family. Key Points: Just about perfect! Chilled out, laid back, affectionate, bonds to people, excellent with other dogs, walks to heel, great in the car, not yet experienced a home. Please say hi to Snoop! Snoop (or Snoop Dawg as everyone calls him!) is a lovely lurcher lad who is approx 2 years old. He has the most beautiful markings, with dalmation-esque spots all over, ears that don’t quite match and wonderful amber eyes. He currently has a really thick kennel coat and is definitely overdue a bath and brush, and we can't wait to see him once all the dead hair is gone. He is a very beautiful boy. Snoop was rescued off the streets in Ireland in a poor condition and has now come across to the UK in the hopes of finding him a loving home of his own. He most definitely deserves some home comforts after his not-so-great start to life. Photo courtesy of Wet Nose Studio: https://www.facebook.com/TheWetNoseStudio?fref=ts ~ Personality ~ Generally: Very easy going, mannerly, loving, responsive to people, gives good eye contact, unflappable. Snoop is one of the most chilled dogs you’re going to meet! He’s fantastically relaxed, laid back and nothing ‘ruffles his feathers’ in the slightest. You can take him anywhere! His calm demeanour means he may not rush up to say hi, but please don’t mistake that for a lack of affection – give Snoop a 10 minute walk and you will see how loving he is. He is very responsive to people and develops a bond extremely quickly. He likes to ‘check in’ on walks by nosing your hand or looking up at you, and he is very happy to follow you wherever you go. He gives good eye contact and will literally reverse into you when asking for a butt scratch! This boy is just a delight, incredibly easy-going and we can't wait to see him in a loving home. Someone is going to be very lucky indeed. ~ In the Home ~ Generally: Not yet experienced a home. Snoop has sadly not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding at the start and give him time to learn the house rules. It generally takes about 10-14 days to start to settle in a home, and really all Snoop needs is a bit of time and patience. Given his beautiful nature, we don’t expect him to be much trouble at all. ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: Very mannerly and calm with other dogs. Engaging and polite. Not cat friendly. Snoop is excellent with other dogs and his easy-going nature puts other more nervous dogs at ease. He is very happy to say hi to new dogs and people alike, but doesn’t tend to get over excited and is very happy to continue on after a polite sniff. He may be suitable as an only dog simply because he is so chilled, but we expect he would happily settle into a multidog household also. Snoop is not suitable to live with cats. The only thing that perks this chillaxed boy’s interest is the occasional lazy bird or squirrel. He doesn’t pull much, however, and remains responsive to the lead. ~ Out and About ~ Generally: Walks like a feather, responsive to correction, suitable to be offlead with recall work, travels well. Snoop walks like a dream on the lead, a child could easily walk him. He trots along happily by your side and is content to be taken anywhere. He is very responsive to the lead and is a joy to bring on walks. Snoop also travels fantastically in the car. Even on long journeys he is very happy to just sit and snooze. Like most sighthound types, Snoop isn’t overly energetic and does not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30min walks a day with some fun in between. After a bond has developed with his new owners and some work on recall has been done in the home, Snoop will be suitable to be let offlead in safe areas away from public roads. ~ Where Am I? ~ Snoop is currently in kennels in Norfolk. He can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you may be required to travel to our rescue to meet and collect him. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Snoop Dawg is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. 10. ORION **UPDATED: MAY 2013** Location: Kennels in Norfolk, UK. Orion would love a foster home while he waits for his forever family. Key Points: Beautiful boy inside & out, friendly, social, calm, gentle, soft, happy to follow direction, very easy, walks to heel, good traveller. Please meet Orion the galaxy dog, and form an orderly queue!! Orion is a beautiful 2 year old ex-racing greyhound boy who was no longer wanted by his trainer when he wasn’t fast enough on the track. We know he is very much wanted, however, as a loving family pet! Orion has a very stunning black coat with white speckles all over – he really does look like a walking galaxy. Orion’s coat is rather dull at the moment, and we can't wait to see a healthy shine come into it to make his stars sparkle even brighter. ~ Personality ~ Generally: Beautiful boy, friendly, engaging, soft, gentle, loving, laid back, easy-going, happy to follow your lead. Orion is a really fabulous boy who has so much to give. He is laid back and takes on an easy going, nonplussed attitude that makes him really lovely to handle. He is very gentle and affectionate with people and soaks up any bit of fuss like a sponge. He is engaging and responsive, bright and chillaxed. This boy is a total gem and needs a special family who will spoil and cherish him appropriately! We can't wait to see Orion in a family where he’s finally getting all the love and cuddles that he craves. ~ In the Home ~ Generally: Not yet in a home environment. Orion has sadly not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding at the start and give him time to learn the house rules. It generally takes greyhounds 10-14 days to start to settle in a home, and really all they need is time and patience. This boy is so accepting and chilled about everything, we expect him to settle into the home life as though he was always there. ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: Excellent with other greyhounds & lurchers, to be tested with small dogs soon. Orion has been very good with the other greyhounds and lurchers in our kennels so far, and enjoys his romp in the paddock. He has not been tested yet with smaller dogs but this will be done soon. ~ Out and About ~ Generally: Walks to heel, responsive to the lead, very friendly and social. Orion walks like a gem on the lead and trots happily alongside you. He is responsive to the lead and stops at the slightest pressure. Orion also travels brilliantly in the car, the motion seems to put him into a trance! Like most greyhounds, Orion is a total couch potato and does not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area once or twice a week, after some work has been done on his recall. ~ Greyhounds as Pets ~ In general greyhounds are very calm, mannerly dogs that are used to being handled. They can fit into a wide range of different lifestyles and usually adjust to the home life very quickly. Their soft, easy going nature often makes them ideal to live in a family with children, while their love of lazing around and low exercise requirements can make them perfect for the elderly. ~ Where Am I? ~ Orion is currently in kennels in Norfolk. He can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you may be required to travel to our rescue to meet and collect him. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Orion is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. This dear boy would benefit so very much from a chance to live in a foster home and Kerry Greyhounds UK is always eager for new foster volunteers. 13. SOL **UPDATED: MAY 2013** Location: Kennels in Suffolk, UK. Sol would love a foster home while he waits for his forever family. Key Points: Big softie, loving, sweet, affectionate, great with other sighthound types, not safe with small dogs, walks well, good traveller. This magnificent boy is Sol. He is a 5 year old ex-racing greyhound who is now looking for a home to call his after running over 30 races in Ireland. Sol is a big BIG blue boy and is absolutely stunning. He is in good condition though is shedding at the moment, and we can't wait to see his shiny new coat come through. This fella is a guaranteed head-turner and is going to bring his lucky new owners a lot of attention when out and about. ~ Personality ~ Generally: Loving, friendly, social, happy-go-lucky, content in himself. Like a lot of the bigger boys, Sol is a total sweetheart. He loooooves people and lives for a bit of fuss and a cuddle. And with a boy this big you sure do get a decent cuddle! Sol has only just arrived to us, but it hasn’t taken him long to get to know everyone. He is very content with what’s given to him and is always a happy goofy dog sporting a great big smile. He’s a fantastic dog and we can't wait to see him stretched out on someone’s sofa. ~ In the Home ~ Generally: Not yet experienced a home. Sol has not yet been in a home environment, so new owners will need to be a bit understanding at the start and give him time to learn the house rules. It generally takes greyhounds 10-14 days to start to settle in a home, and really all they need is time and patience. Sol doesn’t ask for much and is going to be so happy when he finally gets a home of his own. ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: Great with other sighthound types, not currently safe with small dogs. Sol is very good with other greyhounds, sighthounds and lurcher mixes. He is a lovely social boy who is always happy to have a ‘hello sniff’. As with many hounds that come to us from the racing world, Sol is currently not small dog safe. This is simply because he has never seen them before and so assumes that, being so small, they are something to chase. The majority of hounds overcome this issue once they get regular contact and safe socialisation with other breeds of dog, especially the small terrier and toy breeds, but it is an area that will need continued work with his new adopters. We have a behaviourist on hand to help with this problem if needed. Because Sol is so big, he is potentially a strong boy, so we would like to see him homed with someone who has some experience with greyhounds and knows what is meant by them not being small dog safe at this moment. This is absolutely an area that can be greatly improved on and eventually overcome with the right kind of positive socialisation and repetition. ~ Out and About ~ Generally: Walks to heel, good traveller, will pull if sees another dog/cat. Like most greyhounds, Sol is a total couch potato and does not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe secure area once or twice a week. Sol walks very well on the lead, though can pull if he sees a small dog in the distance. Being so big, he is stronger than he thinks he is and so walking with a halti is beneficial. Sol travels well in the car and likes looking out the window. ~ Sol is currently in kennels in Suffolk. 14. **UPDATED: 3rd MAY 2013** Location: Kennels in Norfolk, UK. Senne would love a foster home while she waits for her forever home. Key Points: Sweet, delicate, good with other dogs, learning to trust, walks to heel, moderately active, good in car. Little Senne is a 3 year old greyhound girl who came across from Ireland with her sister Alva to find a loving home to call her own. She has spent all her life so far in racing kennels, and is very much needing some love and comfort in her life. Senne is a petite little black girl with huge, beautiful brown eyes and a very intelligent expression. She is very slender and dainty, and surely wouldn’t take up much space on a sofa! Her black coat is a bit lack-lustre at the moment, but we hope it will get a nice gloss to it soon. ~ Personality ~ Generally: Very sweet, sensitive, shy & timid, needs confidence building & TLC. Senne is a really lovely little girl, sweet, shy and sensitive. She is still getting used to the huge change of leaving her racing kennel for the first time, but she is getting there and has learned to trust us. It’s clear that she isn’t used to receiving lots of affection, and so doesn’t know how to ask for it or even know what it’s all about. This girlie really needs a home environment to truly blossom, so if anyone can offer a foster space please do get in touch. With a bit of patience and TLC this lady has the potential to transform completely, and it will be just beautiful to see. ~ In the Home ~ Generally: Not yet in a home environment. Sweet Senne has not been in a home environment before, so new owners will need to be a bit patient during the first couple of weeks and allow her time to settle in and learn the home rules. It generally takes 10-14 days for new greyhounds to start to settle down in a home, and really all they need is a bit of time and patience. ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: Very good with other dogs. Accepts a telling off, playful and active. Not suitable for cats. Senne is very good with the other dogs and benefits from their company. She loves romping around with her kennel mates, and will also take a telling off from a grumpy terrier without complaint. Senne will most likely need another dog or two in her future home to help her settle and show her the ropes. She has a lot to learn about the home life, but all she needs is a bit of patience and repetition. ~ Out and About ~ Generally: Walks to heel, not overly active, well behaved, good traveller. Senne walks like a dream on the lead and doesn’t pull. She loves her walks and it’s a very good time to bond with her. She travels good in the car, and is also ok at coping with traffic. Like most greyhounds, Senne is not overly active and so will not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week. ~ Where Am I? ~ Senne is currently being kennelled in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you will be required to travel to us in Norfolk to meet her. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Senne is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. This girl would greatly benefit from being in a foster home, and Kerry Greyhounds UK is always in desperate need of new fosterers. 15. **UPDATED: 5th MAY 2013** Location: Foster home in Norfolk, UK. Key Points: Affectionate, enjoys people, inquisitive, loves walks, travels well, good with other dogs, active and can be vocal. This beautiful brindle girl is Alva. She is a 3 year old greyhound girl who finished racing in Ireland and is now looking for a loving family to call her own. She is in very good physical condition, and has a really beautiful coat. Alva is quite petite for a greyhound, with a slender build. She has a beautifully intelligent face, bright eyes and lovely ‘pop-up’ ears. ~ Personality ~ Generally: Friendly, affectionate but not demanding, gentle, laid back & excitable all at once! inquisitive. Alva has spent the last few weeks settling in to our kennels and getting to know the staff. She has shown herself to be an affectionate, friendly little lady who loves a bit of love and TLC. She’s also bright as a button and likes being out and about, seeing the world. She is an active lady who really does need a good run a few times a week, though we expect she will relax a lot once she’s in a stable home environment. She really enjoys human company, though is obviously not used to getting so much and so is currently learning how to ask for more attention. This shouldn’t take too long at all! Alva is a lovely, perky little lady who will do very well in a home setting once given that chance. ~ In the Home ~ Generally: Settling well in foster, will update soon. Alva has just now moved into a foster home, and we will update with her progress once she has a week or so to settle. ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: Good with other dogs, vocal in greeting, not cat suitable. Alva is well behaved with the other greyhounds she has met. She likes canine company, is quite social and has a playful side just waiting to show itself more. She can also get wound up by other dogs and will mirror their level of excitability. On her own she is much more responsive. Alva can be vocal if she sees another dog in the distance and wants to meet them NOW, but after she reaches them and says hi, she rapidly calms down. She might need a bit of care though if other small dogs are running around, simply because she may get very overexcited. She is not cat friendly. ~ Out and About ~ Generally: Walks well after initial excitement, curious, social, good in car, ok with noisy situations. Little Alva walks well on the lead after the initial excitement of the walk time has worn off. This is likely to settle even more now that she’s in a home and getting lots of interaction and exercise. She sadly hasn’t seen a whole lot yet due to spending her first 3 years in the same racing kennels. Like most greyhounds, Alva is not extremely active and will not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area a couple times a week. She travels well in the car and is ok with busy traffic. ~ Alva is currently being fostered in Norfolk, UK. 16. **UPDATED: 23RD APRIL 2013** Location: Foster home in Hertfordshire, UK. Key Points: Super friendly, loving, light hearted, quirky, centered, would benefit from living with another dog, loves kids. This delightful hound is Crosby. He is a 4 year old greyhound boy who has ran over 50 races for his previous owners and now very much deserves a loving family home to call his own. Crosby is a big black boy and is oh so gorgeous now that his coat has a healthy shimmer to it. ~ Personality ~ Generally: Big goofball, sociable, loves people and dogs alike, inquisitive, boisterous, playful, confident. Crosby is a character with a capital C!! A nicer, softer goofball you will not meet, Crosby is just delightful in every way. He has not let the harsh racing world dampen his spirits in the slightest, and though he is technically looking for a ‘retirement’ home, Crosby is not near ready to finish his adventure. This boy is just adorable and is guaranteed to make you smile. He finds the joy in the simplest things, loves exploring the world around him, absolutely ADORES his people and always has the biggest toothiest smile saved just for you. He loves getting cuddles and being allowed to snuggle with you on the sofa in the evening is his idea of heaven! Whoever gives this boy space on their sofa is going to be very lucky indeed. Crosby is a confident chappy and really is just a typical bloke – goofy, chilled out, boisterous and just a little bit loud! He great with children and is very gentle but fun loving. He is used to being played with and handled by kids, and could live happily in a busy family home with children over the age of 8. ~ In the Home ~ Generally: Housetrained, super playful, fun-loving and quirky, happiest with canine company, can live with children aged 8+. Crosby has been in his foster home for 2 weeks, and is settling well. He is fully housetrained, quiet through the night and not destructive. Having a daily routine is vital for Crosby, or ‘Bing’ as is his new nickname, and he is more chilled when he knows the drill. He is incredibly affectionate and will shower you in kisses if you let him. He is also super playful and loves nothing better than filining his squeaky toi around the house. Crosby also has just a little bit of ‘quirk’, he gives big toothy smiles when greeting you in the morning, and when hes really REALLY happy his long tail spins in circles, like a helicopter blade. Crosby is one of the happiest dogs you will meet, and whoever adopts him is guaranteed a lifetume supply of laughs! Crosby loooves his food and if you have tasty treats you are his new best friend. This also makes him very responsive to training, and he is a very engaging dog. He picks up new commands quickly, and is especially good at copying his foster siblings. He is sharing his foster home with 2 other greyhound boys, and he is learning that most dogs don’t actually want to play all the time! He is taking his telling offs very well, and is really just a big fun-loving goof. He very much enjoys having doggie company though, so we feel he would be best in a home with at least one other dog, ideally someone who is willing to play with him on occasion. ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: Very good with other dogs, bit boisterous at times, not suitable to live with cats. Crosby is very good with other dogs and is generally polite in greeting them. He can get over-excited sometimes and become boisterous, but he is learning that this isn’t always welcomed with open arms. As he calms down and gets used to having lots of socialisation rather than just a daily walk when in kennels, we are sure he will get better and remember his manners more often when meeting other dogs. He may need to be watched with very small dogs as he is a big boy and might hurt them ,but again this will calm down with time and repetition. Crosby really loves other canines and craves their company and socialisation. He would do very well in a home with another dog (or three!) to interact with and goof around with in the garden. Crosby is not cat friendly. ~ Out and About ~ Generally: Excellent on lead, sociable, enjoys seeing the world, good traveller, needs recall work. Like most greyhounds, Crosby does not need as much exercise as one might expect. He will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area a couple times a week. Crosby is not yet suitable to be offlead. He will need some work on recall before he can be safely let offlead in areas away from roads and livestock. Crosby walks like a gem on the lead and is also excellently behaved in the car. Crosby is the type of dog you could take practically anywhere with you, and he would dearly love to follow you wherever you go. This boy is looking for adventure and life expereinces, so we would love him to find a home that will take him on trips and long, relaxed walks. ~ Crosby is currently in a foster home in Hertfordshire. 18. TESS **UPDATED: APRIL 2013** Location: Temporary home in Norfolk, UK. Key Points: Very sweet, loving, undemanding, visibly tries to be good, excellent with dogs, good in car, scared of noisy traffic, men, and loud noises. Dear Tess is an 8 year old ex-racing greyhound lady who could really do with a bit of luck in her life. Despite running a staggering 180 races, she soon found herself unwanted by her trainer and taken in by a kind lady, only to have the resident dogs attack her. So dear Tess is looking for a quieter home where she can learn to relax, be loved on and essentially be an OAP! Tess has a very endearing, gentle expression, made just a little bit comical by her ears which have a mind of their own! She has a black coat that is getting a healthy gloss to it, and lovely distinguished silvering on her face. ~ Personality ~ Generally: Sweet & affectionate, coming out of herself gradually, timid, learning to trust, very undemanding. Tess is a very sweet, very quiet lady who asks for so very little. She is quite obviously not used to getting so much attention, so is so grateful for every bit of TLC given to her. She is very undemanding and actively tries to not cause any problems for anyone. She just wants to get along. She is getting more and more affectionate all the time as she learns to relax and trust in people a bit more. This sweetie pie is quiet as a mouse and such good company to have. She provides a gentle and consistent sort of companionship and would be a wonderful dog for an elderly or laid back home. Sweet Tess has spent many of her 8 years in kennels, and still has things to learn about the big wide world. She can be scared of some things such as loud traffic or bustling crowds of people, and is downright terrified of fireworks and gunshot. She can also be nervous of men, but is very good with children and could live with kids over age 10. She has made huge improvements already though, and just needs to develop trust in her carers. Given time, patience and lots of love, she will improve, but right now she needs a gentle hand and not pushed past what she can currently cope with. As she relaxes more, she is showing an interest in what’s going on around her rather than trying to remove herself from the situation. ~ Medical Issues ~ Like many greyhounds, Tess has a clotting abnormality in her blood and so care needs to be taken for any operations. Her teeth were very bad upon arrival, which means that after her dental she doesn’t have many left. She copes just fine though, and her teeth no longer pose her any problems. ~ In the Home ~ Generally: House savvy, 90% housetrained, excellently behaved, fine with sharing, good with other dogs and people, family and visitors. Very low maintenance, great dog for an older or quiet home. Tess is in general excellent in her home. She doesn’t counter surf, listens to when asked to do something, doesn’t beg, and is quiet through the night. She can be left with her foster sister for a few hours without problems. She shares her home with another elderly greyhound, and they share their space and belongings very well. Tess is not overly active – she has run enough in her life! As such she would be happier without a young puppy who may constantly ask her to play. But she would be a lovely, sweet companion for a mature dog. Tess is having a bit of a problem with toileting in that she must be frequently reminded to go outside to toilet. This is possibly because the outside can be very frightening for her. She is well able to and does hold it throughout the night, but will not toilet on walks so must be let straight outside to her garden upon returning, or she may go in the house. Likewise after mealtimes, she must be sent out to toilet or she will become distressed and go inside. This issue does not crop up on a daily basis, and with time it will happen less and less. ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: Excellent with other dogs, not suitable for cats. Tess is very good with all other dogs. She is calm and quiet, happy to say hi but also happy to ignore and continue on her way. She has no problem with canine friends visiting her house either, and really is such a no-bother girl. She will surely slot right into your home like you always had her. Tess is not suitable to live with cats, but when she sees one on walks she freezes rather than pulls, so it’s very manageable. ~ Out and About ~ Generally: Likes meeting new people/dogs, frightened of traffic & needs confidence boosting. Walks to heel unless very frightened. Like most greyhounds, Tess is a very quiet, calm girl and will not need a huge amount of exercise. She will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week. Tess travels excellently in the car, but is currently frightened of traffic when outside. She is not yet used to busy roads or bustling streets, and will literally jump with fright. She needs patience and repetition in this area to get her over the hump of fear, but eventually she can learn that nothing will ever harm her. She is fine with meeting new people and dogs when out on her walks, and is excellent in that regard. ~ Where Am I? ~ Tess is currently in a temporary home in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK, but please note that you will be required to travel to the foster home to meet and collect her. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Tess is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. This girl would greatly benefit from being in a foster home, and Kerry Greyhounds UK is always in desperate need of new fosterers. It is such a rewarding experience, and costs are covered by the rescue. 19. SHAY **UPDATED: 22nd JUNE 2013** Location: Foster home in Suffolk, UK. Key Points: The perfect dog!! Super affectionate, friendly, always happy, walks to heel, good in car, excellent with all other dogs, great in the house, toilet trained, has basic manners, very responsive, tries to be good. Shay is a 2 year old greyhound boy who was considered not good enough for the racing world. He is certainly good enough for us though! Shay is 26” to the shoulder and has a lovely thick black coat that is shedding at the moment, but it’s going to be so sleek and shiny one he’s finished. He is a really lovely big greyhound boy with a beautifully soft expression, and though he could do with losing a couple of pounds, it just means more Shay to go around! Shay recently got his very own photoshoot with the talented Madaboutgreys Photography (http://www.madaboutgreys.com/): ~ Personality ~ Generally: Very loving, friendly, adores people, lurves cuddles. Good boy, balanced and happy-go-lucky. Shay has a really really lovely personality, 10minutes with him is all you need to fall in love, we guarantee it! He adores everyone, everything, and asks for very little. He is confident but mannerly, polite and responsive to your requests, very much a typical greyhound. He is the ultimate ‘best friend package’, and has so much love to give to anyone who spares him a second of their time. Shay would also be a fab boy for a first time greyhound owner because he is the perfect example of a sweet greyhound. Shay is going to be such a fantastic family pet. All he needs is to be given the chance, and we’re sure he will grasp it with both paws. He is going to LOVE the home comforts and, most importantly, being able to be around his people 24/7. ~ In the Home ~ Generally: Housetrained, home savvy, ok to be left with canine company, ok as only dog with human company, great addition to a pack. Shay has been in his foster home for 3 weeks now and is doing so so well. He is perfectly housetrained, is fine to be left with his canine buddies and is not destructive. He has started discovering the joys of toys and is learning the house rules quickly from his foster brothers and sisters. Shay is such a no-bother kind of dog, content with what’s given to him and he visibly aims to avoid causing trouble. He just wants to love and be loved, and is such a cuddler on the sofa in the evenings. We can't wait to see this lad in his forever home, and hope he isn’t repeatedly overlooked just because of his black coat. This dog is FANTASTIC! ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: Excellent with all other dogs, very calm, polite and laid back. Shay gets on with everyone and is always willing to say hi to other dogs of all shapes and sizes. He is very laid back and polite, putting other dogs at ease. Shay would make a lovely, balanced companion for a resident dog, and may slot well into a pack situation. He is very happy-go-lucky and accepts what’s given without complaint, making him super easy to keep as happy as can be. Shay is currently sharing his foster home with 2 other greyhounds and a JRT. He loves them all and slotted easily into this pack as if he was always there. ~ Out and About ~ Generally: Walks to heel, happy to meet everyone, polite and content, good traveller, ok in busy situations. Shay’s excellent manners and calm demeanour continues as such when out in the ‘real world’. He is very responsive to the lead, is friendly and social (unless you’re a squirrel!) and travels fabulously in the car. Like most greyhounds, Shay is a total couch potato and does not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a safe area once or twice a week. ~ Shay is currently in a foster home in Suffolk. He can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you may be required to travel to meet and collect him. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Shay is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. If you are interested in adopting Shay, you can contact me (Tam) via email: [email protected], or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs. There is an application form for adopting Shay, and we will ask you to fill this in as the first step in the adoption process. To speed up this process, we recommend you do this before emailing/calling. 20. ALVA **UPDATED: APRIL 2013** Location: Kennels in Norfolk, UK. Alva would love a foster home while she waits for her forever home. Key Points: Affectionate, enjoys people, inquisitive, loves walks, travels well, good with other dogs her size. ~ Personality ~ Generally: Friendly, affectionate but not demanding, gentle, quiet, laid back, inquisitive. Alva has spent the last few weeks settling in to our kennels and getting to know the staff. She has shown herself to be an affectionate, friendly little lady who loves a bit of love and TLC. She’s also bright as a button and likes being out and about, seeing the world. She is quite laid back in herself and doesn’t get overexcited. She really enjoys human company, though is obviously not used to getting so much and so is currently learning how to ask for more attention. This shouldn’t take too long at all! Alva is a lovely, perky little lady who will do very well in a home setting once given that chance. ~ In the Home ~ Generally: Not yet in a home environment. Alva has not been in a home environment before, so new owners will need to be a bit patient during the first couple of weeks and allow her time to settle in and learn the home rules. It generally takes 10-14 days for new greyhounds to start to settle down in a home, and really all they need is a bit of time and patience. ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: Good with other dogs, laid back but friendly, not cat suitable. Alva is well behaved with the other greyhounds in the kennels. She likes canine company, is quite social and has a playful side just waiting to show itself more. She has not been tested with small dogs yet but this is being done very soon. She is not cat friendly. ~ Out and About ~ Generally: Walks well after initial excitement, curious, social, good in car, ok with noisy situations. Little Alva walks well on the lead after the initial excitement of the walk time has worn off. This is likely to settle even more once she’s in a home and getting lots of interaction and exercise, and also gets used to seeing the world around her. ~ Alva is currently being kennelled in Norfolk, UK. She can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you will be required to travel to us in Norfolk to meet her. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Alva is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. This girl would greatly benefit from being in a foster home, and Kerry Greyhounds UK is always in desperate need of new fosterers. It is such a rewarding experience, and costs are covered by the rescue. 21. SENNE **UPDATED: APRIL 2013** Location: Kennels in Norfolk, UK. Senne would love a foster home while she waits for her forever home. Key Points: Sweet, delicate, good with greyhounds, learning to trust, walks to heel, good in car. She is still getting used to the huge change of leaving her racing kennel for the first time, but she is getting there and is gradually learning to trust us. ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: Very good with other greyhounds, not checked with small dogs yet. Not suitable for cats. Senne is very good with the other greyhounds in the kennels and benefits from their company. She has not been tested with small dogs or cats but these can be carried out prior to adoption if required. Often ex-racing greyhounds need a bit of socialisation with smaller dog breeds as they would never have seen them before, and at the start may not realise they are dogs! 23. **UPDATED: 25th MARCH 2013** Location: Foster home in Buckinghamshire, UK. Key Points: Super sweet, affectionate, well adjusted, home savvy, good traveller. The sweet little Kylie is a 7 year old Irish greyhound lady who, after 32 races and even a litter of pups, is now finally ready to find her retirement sofa. She is a petite 25” black girl with the sweetest wee face that has a peppering of grey around the edges. Kylie has spent all her life so far in kennels and has raised her fair share of greyhound puppies, but is in good condition and health. Kylie is currently in a foster home with 4 other dogs. ~ Personality ~ Generally: Loving, calm, very affectionate, undemanding. Kylie is so incredibly sweet, a real sweet little sweetiepie! And have we said that she’s sweet?? She’s gorgeous in both looks and personality, and really just wants to be fawned over and doted on all day long. She loves to give and get affection and is a cuddle sponge. She really enjoys being around people, and would stay with you all day long if you gave out ear scratches. At the same time though, Kylie is not in your face or overly demanding about getting her quota of love. She is very much content with what she gets, and doesn’t ask for much at all. Kylie is very gentle and quite sensitive. She can be a wee bit shy in new situations, but doesn’t take long at all to get over it and enjoy the moment. ~ In the Home ~ Generally: Housetrained, good with canine company, not-destructive, learning not to steal! Kylie has been in her foster home for 5 months now and is doing splendidly. She has the house routine down pat from watching and following her foster siblings. She is fully housetrained and is not destructive when left with just her doggie friends for company. She comes when called and has even started playing with toys! Her favourite toys are squeaky ones, and she is much improved in her sharing abilities now that she knows there are plenty of toys to go around. When she first entered foster care, she tried to hoard and defend her ‘bounty’, but has relaxed considerably over the past few months. It’s a delight to see her adjusting to the home life, and she is definitely ready for a forever home to call her own now. Kylie’s primary love in life is her tummy. She LOVES food and feeding time and is trying very hard to remember to be patient at meal times. She just loves her grub! She has gotten much better with the house rules and knows not to steal off the kitchen counters, and even leaves the kitchen entirely on command. Bin bags left unattended outside are still fair game, but she is learning at a good steady pace. She is even refining her tastes of late, after taking a liking to the odd cup of tea! ~ Medical Issues ~ Kylie recently visited the vet had her very bad teeth sorted. Though she now just has 11 left, she is a happy healthy lady. She can get a slight limp on one of her front legs after a hard run or longer walk, and it is believed that this is due to an old injury. She does not need any medication for it other than perhaps a joint aid food supplement. ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: Very good in general, care needed with smalls. Kylie gets on very well with other dogs and really loves their company. She shares her foster home with a well adjusted pack and slotted in very well. She will give a wee grumble if another dog steps on her while sleeping, but there isnt any follow-through. She’s just an older lady who likes a bit of respect from her fellow canines. Kylie can live with other dogs and would adapt just fine as an only dog provided there is someone at home to give her company – she’s not overly keen on being left alone. Kylie is getting used to meeting other breeds of dog, as she has seen mostly greyhounds up to this point. She is now fine with meeting other medium to large dogs regardless of shape., but a bit of care is needed when introducing her to very small dogs as she might not realise they are indeed canines. So far she is very polite in meeting them once she sees them to have dog behaviour. Kylie is not cat or small furry friendly. ~ Out and About ~ Generally: Walks well, good traveller, polite with people/canines, will pull upon sight of a small furry. Kylie is a beautiful couch potato who will be content with a couple of shortish walks and perhaps a chance to stretch her legs in a secure area once or twice a week. She can on occasion have a slight limp on her front leg if she overdoes it when running, and is doing very well with two 30 min walks a day at a steady pace. She walks beautifully on the lead though can on occasion pull if she sees a cat or squirrel in the distance. Kylie also travels very well and settles down immediately. Kylie is a very low maintenance lady who asks for nothing beyond tasty food and daily cuddles. She would suit a relatively sedate household who will potter around with her on daily walks but not push her too much. ~ Where Am I? ~ Kylie is currently in a foster home in Buckinghamshire. She can be adopted to anywhere in the UK, provided we have a homechecker available, but please note you will need to travel to her foster home to meet/collect her. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Kylie is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed, and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. If you are interested in adopting Kylie, you can contact me (Tam) via email: [email protected], or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs. 24. **UPDATED: 3rd FEBRUARY 2013** Location: Foster home in Norfolk, UK. Key Points: Both easy going, house savvy, no major issues. George is the more forward of the two, Jazz prefers to assess, then approach. Both social with dogs provided the other dog is not aggressive. Walk well on lead. This delightful duo is Jazz and George, both ex-racing greyhounds from Ireland. Jazz is the lovely black lad who is 7yrs old and George is the beautiful brindle boy who is now 6. Jazz and George have been in our foster home for a full year now with very little interest. We are shocked that no one is interested in these two boys – they are fabulous companions, very little trouble to have, and they are each other’s perfect complement. Yin and Yang. Jazz and George were adopted together about 5 years ago, but have sadly come back to us through no fault of their own. We are looking to get these two beautiful boys settled into a new forever home sooner rather than later, so that they can get over this huge upheaval and move on to happier times. ~ Home For Two ~ Jazz and George complement each other beautifully. They truly love each other’s company too, so we really do want to see them homed together if possible. Adopting two dogs might sound like a big step, but in many situations having two is easier than one – they keep each other company when left and one will help the other settle in and adjust to their new family. And let’s not forget that you will be rewarded with double the love! ~ Personalities ~ Jazz and George are both lovely boys, but in different ways. George is the big social butterfly, always eager to meet new people, make new canine friends and be out and about exploring the world. He is super friendly and affectionate, but not in an over-the-top, bouncy way. He remains very mannerly and is well trained, just a bit of a clown with a very endearing playful side. Jazz is the more sensitive boy, happy to let George do the introductions while he gets an idea of the situation and then approaching to say hi. He is not outright shy or nervous; he just likes to assess the situation from a distance for a minute before joining in. Once he knows you, Jazz is beautifully affectionate and loving, especially to ‘his’ humans, he’s just not quite the socialite that George is. His sensitive nature means he becomes very attune to his people and is such a loving, soft boy. Great for a cuddle after a stressy day at work. Considering all the upheaval they have been through, both dogs are really super boys, very happy-go-lucky and undemanding. They would be two great dogs for a slightly older couple as they don’t require the same activity and exercise as a younger dog. If they have a bit of excess run in them, they can happily play together and tire themselves out. They would also be candidates for a home with full time workers, as they can keep each other company when left and are happy enough to doze away provided they had a walk in the morning before being left. ~ In the Home ~ Both hounds have spent many years in a home so are very well adjusted and happy in a house. They are not destructive and will just snooze away when left once they are settled in their new home. They are quiet through the night and are housetrained, though they might have one or two indoor accidents when they first move into the new house due to the stresses involved. In general these boys are very easy to keep contented as they don’t demand much from you – just some love, yummy food and a soft bed and they’re happy as can be. Both dogs LOVE their food, and are attentive when given direction. In return you will be rewarded with double the love of two big sloppy boys – they live to give cuddles and curl up with you in the evening. ~ Other Animals ~ Jazz and George are in general good with other dogs, though sometimes Jazz can get a bit nervous if he feels crowded. Having said that, both dogs are sharing their foster home with several other greyhounds and have slotted in very well. In keeping with how they are with people, George is always wanting to come right up and say hi, while Jazz prefers to take a bit more time and is more sensitive to the other dog. If an approaching dog barks aggressively at them, Jazz will mirror that behaviour, but if the other dog is mannered, Jazz is the same. In general though these boys are very well behaved when out and are a joy to take for walks and to social events. They walk very well on the lead and keep to heel, the only exception to this being when they see a cat or other small furry, then George can become overexcited and strong on the lead. This behaviour is improving with calm but steady work on redirecting his attention to you, he just needs continued repietition of this. Jazz and George travel very quietly, though George can sometimes get bouts of motion sickness. ~ Out and About ~ Like most greyhounds, these lads are true couch potatoes and will not need a huge amount of exercise. They will be content with two 30min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch their legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week. Jazz and George are great dogs to take out and walk with. As already mentioned, they walk to heel and don’t pull unless they see a small furry critter or deer in the distance. They are very good at meeting other people and are calm and mannered in busy or crowded situations. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers. ~ Where Am I? ~ This beautiful duo is currently being fostered in Norfolk, UK. They can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you may be required to travel to our rescue to meet and collect them. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Jazz and George are neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure. If you are interested in adopting these two boys, you can contact me (Tam) via email: [email protected], or speak directly to Bronwen by phoning: 075 000 62648. Emails are usually replied to within 24 hrs. There is an application form for adopting a Kerry Greyhound, and we will ask you to fill it in as the first step in the adoption process. To speed up this process, we recommend you do this before emailing/calling. 25. **UPDATED: 3RD FEBRUARY 2013** Location: Foster home in Norfolk, UK. Key Points: Super friendly, squishy, great cuddler, suitable to be an only dog, not small dog safe, house savvy, ok to be left, good in the car. Paddy is an 7 year old ex-racing greyhound. He is a very striking black boy with white trim and gorgeous, piercing eyes. He is 29” to the shoulder and his coat is beautifully sleek and shiny. Sadly Paddy was rehomed about a year ago (as Panther) but has now come back to us to look for a new forever family. We would ideally like to see him homed sooner rather than later so he can quickly get over this sudden upheaval and settle again. ~ Personality ~ Generally: Fantastic boy, very affectionate, lazy, easy to keep happy, calm. Paddy is a lovely, quiet boy who is very content with the simple things in life. He relishes any chance to just stretch out and relax in the sun, and has a beautifully very calm, quiet demeanour in the house. Paddy loves people too and will soak up any attention you give him. At the same time he is not in your face about asking for more affection. He is polite and mannerly and all in all a very easy boy to keep happy, with just enough of a goofy side to have you smiling on a daily basis! ~ In the Home ~ Generally: House savvy, ok to be left, suitable as an only dog, plays with toys, a pleasure to have in the house. Paddy is currently in a foster home and had been living in a home for the past year, so is very house savvy and knows all the basics. He might have one or two mistakes upon arrival simply due to the stress of moving to a completely new home, but he should quickly settle. Not much fazes Paddy and he is such an easy, loving lug to have around. He is very chilled-out in the house and quite the lazy boy, loving nothing more than to stretch out on his duvet and snooze the afternoon away. Paddy is currently the only dog in his foster home, and has settled to this very well. He is fine to be left alone and doesn’t become destructive. He is the perfect cuddle dispenser and furry heater on the cold winter nights. Paddy has just enough ‘quirk’ to keep you entertained. He is a bit of a goof and gets very excited when he knows it dinner time or walk time. He also likes to take his foster mum’s slippers to bed with him as a ‘security blanket’! He never chews the slippers but just likes to carry them to bed. Though 8 years old now, he has just recently gotten a new interest in toys and it’s a delight to see him play. ~ Other Animals ~ Generally: Good with other greyhound types, not small dog or cat safe, best to live with a female hound, or on his own. This lovely boy also adores his walks but is not safe with small dogs, cats or furries. Though the majority of greyhounds come to learn that small dogs are indeed dogs and not rabbits once they’ve been off the track for a short while, there is a small percentage that never let go of that prey drive. Paddy falls into this group, and so he need a very experienced owner who has dealt with this type of dog before, and understands how they work. Paddy still sees small dogs as targets to be hunted, so he must wear a muzzle whenever he is near them. If introduced calmly and gradually, he will understand that he is to ignore them, but any small dog moving in the distance will get him very excited and he will fixate. Paddy is definitely most comfortable and social with other hound-shaped dogs – he knows his own! He is mannerly and gentle when meeting other hounds, and goes on regular walks with some local lurchers. Paddy has also been attacked by male hounds on a couple of occasions, they seem to just not like him for some reason, so he would be best either living with a female hound or he is fine and well-adjusted to live on his own. He just needs an owner who is prepared for his reaction, understands how he ticks, but loves him regardless. ~ Out and About ~ Generally: Walks to heel until he sees other dogs, social with people and greyhounds, great in the car. Like most greyhounds, Paddy will not need a huge amount of exercise. He will be content with two 30 min walks a day and perhaps a chance to stretch his legs offlead in a secure area once or twice a week. Due to his high prey drive, Paddy needs to be muzzled when offlead, and not be let offlead around other small animals including small dogs. Paddy travels very well and is a gem to bring on car trips. He settles down straight away and just snoozes most of the time. When he doesn’t see other dogs/cats/squirrels in the distance he walks very well on the lead, happily trotting alongside you without pulling. Paddy is also not bothered by busy traffic or crowds of people. Greyhounds also don’t shed as much as other more popular dog breeds and this can make them suitable to live with allergy sufferers. ~ Where Am I? ~ Paddy is currently in foster care in Norfolk. He can be homed anywhere in the UK provided we have a homechecker available, but please note that you may be required to travel to our rescue to meet and collect him. ~ Want To Adopt Me? ~ Paddy is neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, de-flea'd and wormed and a homecheck will be required as part of the adoption procedure.
