Trudie is a 15 year old Cocker Spaniel who arrived in Oldies Club care in a terrible state. She was grossly underweight, only 10.6 kg, and had infections in her eyes, ears, throat and chest. Her breathing was laboured and she had an upset tummy and infected sores on her face.

Despite all that she's had to cope with, Trudie is the sweetest little dog you could wish to meet and after lots of veterinary treatment, antibiotics and TLC she's shown considerable improvement. She's putting on weight and her infections are clearing up nicely, but she needs to continue with eye drops as she has a condition called "dry-eye". Trudie is totally deaf and has poor eyesight, so she's going to need a very sympathetic and understanding owner who can continue to give her the love and care she truly deserves.

This is Trudie when she first arrived!

Trudie's foster family have described what they think would be her perfect home …

The perfect home for Trudie would be one where someone is around most of the day, perhaps a retired person or couple, or a home worker. Trudie isn't high maintenance, but she needs someone who will be patient and understand that she's an older lady wanting TLC in her twilight years. A home without stairs would be ideal because even though she's fine going up, she's not so good coming back down. If there are stairs she'd be happy to be carried, but would need a stairgate to prevent any falls. Trudie also needs someone to be around for regular mealtimes as she'll need some encouragement to eat and put on more weight.

Trudie's fosterers also tell us ….

Trudie is very easy going and has been quite happy to live with our 12 year old dog. We've never heard her bark or growl and we think she'd also be fine living with cats and other pets. She's very good with children and loves attention, but because of her age and poor hearing and eyesight, we'd recommend a home with older children (aged 13 yrs +).

Out on walks this girl steps out like a dog half her age! She was only walked for 10 minutes every 2-3 days in her previous home, but she certainly intends to make up for it! It is the highlight of her day and she trots along in front telling us to hurry up! Her new owners will need to be fit enough to walk her for about 30-45 minutes every day. She has no recall due to her deafness, but she does walk beautifully on the lead.

Trudie is a very good girl in the car. She gets very excited though and just can't wait to get out and walk, so be ready for when you open the boot!

Her favourite pastimes are receiving love, more love, being patted and petted, fed and walked and then having a big tummy rub while she rolls around on the floor. She's an absolute poppet and she doesn't have a bad bone in her body. She's a friendly, loving and happy girl who deserves a nice retirement home where she'll be truly pampered.

We believe that whoever adopts Trudie will most certainly have a loyal, loving and faithful doggie companion for the rest of her days. She's a lovely girl and she'll be so grateful to whoever wants care for her at this time in her life. She's adorable!

Trudie isn't currently neutered and is due to be vaccinated at the end of this month. She's been wormed and has had several baths, but hasn't yet been flea-treated. Due to her Dry-eye condition she will need to have eye drops for the rest of her life.

If you'd like to enquire about Trudie, please refer to our Adoption Procedures for information about the adoption process. You can then contact an Oldies Club rehoming co-ordinator as follows:

    Email: [email protected]

    Telephone: 0844 586 8656

Trudie can be rehomed anywhere in the UK, subject to a satisfactory home visit, but note that you will be required to travel to the foster home to meet her.

    Hope I've done this right...

  2. It could be that some people do not know how to resize, have not got the software to do it, or are not aware that their pics are so big. I'm not a great expert on the subject, but I do have software that can resize pics, and I'm willing to help out other members where I can. Please remember though, that there are only 24 hours in a day and I do have a life to lead, but if peeps have photos they can email them to me, I will resize them and send them back, so they can put the smaller images on their image host.

Hi Carole, Wonder if you can help me. I've tried to put a pic of my dogs for my avatar but its too big and I dont know how to resize it. Tried to use photobucket but that didnt work either.sad.gif

  3. I've just stubbled across this site for the oldies altho I've searched the web before for dog rescue sites for older dogs.

I live with 4 yorkshire terriers, 2 of which are 12yr old sisters, 1 is 9yrs old from a rescue in Lincolnshire and the youngest is 15mths old, another rescue, from Enfield Dog Rescue. As you can tell I'm into rescues and have only had yorkies so far. We (OH and me) moved into a small village in Bedfordshire some 7 yrs ago after finding a bungalow with quite a large garden (large garden being top of the list of "most haves")- dogs take priority in this household...rolleyes.gif hence large garden required. I'm at home most of the day although I attend a gym about twice a week and attend "jazzercise" (an aerobic class) 4 times a week. No I'm not superfit just trying to lose some weight...tongue.gif its not working too well though..glare.gif . At present I'm looking to give a home to a larger dog.. Bella, a terrier cross looks as if she cld fit the bill or Trudie a Cocker Spaniel... I love them all and if I won a large sum of money I'd give a big chunk to dog rescues... dream onwacko.gif
