    So sorry to read your news. It is never easy when you lose a best friend. As others have said what will be will be, there maybe another to follow but this will come when you least expect it.

    I too have not been on the board for a long time, but lovely to see familiar names and faces.

    Does the child have a skin condition where is creamed at night before bed. i had this with one of my foster cats when rehomed and ther was somehing in the cream that made the cat wee on the bed to mask the smell.Hope all resolved soon.

    What wonderful news. I am so thrilled for all your family. She is beautiful and can see the joy that she brings you all. She is certainly proving to be a fighter and proving the doctors wrong.

    Keep us updated with her progress and hoping she has a healthy and happy 2011.

  9. How To Bring New People To The Refuge

    I still pop on to catch with everyone. I do not always get the time to post as now work 3/4 time and have a busy household and also am Chairperson to a disability charity. But I will never forget how kind and supportive everyone was to me when Brodie was taken so suddenly ill just at the start of a family holiday. The family had to still go so I stayed and so many of you kept me going even at the darkest hours of losing him.

    To have that support was irreplacable and I hope we will all be here for each other when we need that extra helping hand.

    Many of you know I have a disabled daughter and have at times posted her progress reports. She graduated from University in August and has just started her first job as an occupational therapist. We are immensly proud of her and although I must admit it is a little bit of a brag I post to give others out there the hope that not all doctors or educationalists get it right and with a little bit of extra support we can help our children to get to their goals.

    So pleased to hear this news. I have followed her story with interest. Our daughter was born 22 years ago with Spina Bifida and we had some dark days in those early years. Loads of surgery and many obstacles to overcome/

    She has just recently qualified as an occupational therapist and seeking work, has a serious boyfriend and is amazing. I hope we can give your family some inspiration that life can be good and to never give up hoping. Heres to health and happier days for them all.

    My daughter plays wheelchair basketball with Steve and he is a real gentle giant. He took her under his wing when she started to play for the team. He has an anazing sense of humour and can laugh at his disability. He is a classic case of never judge a book by its cover.

    He does have an assistance dog but can only imagine that a decison was made that it was not a good place for him to be. The dog will be looking after his wife and his children.

  22. Urgent Advice Needed

    He probably has a dodgy tummy due to the fact that any food he is getting is too rich for him at present after eating rubbish for a while. I foster ferals and strays for Cat Protection and often or not they cannot cope with cat food to start. I mash potato and cook white fish in water and mix this up in small portions and feed 4 times a day. When diarohea settles I then introduce small amounts of cat food. Usually kit e kat is tolerable and then increase until solely on cat food. I wish you well in getting him better.

    This may be controversal to some and I would be quite happy for him to go outside in a run but he must not have any access to other cats as he could pass the FIV on easily. Unfortunately FIV is on the increase and needs everyone to pull together to stop the spread.

    Good luck and hope they have a long time to enjoy his company.

  24. Nhs Making This So Much Harder To Cope With

    I am so sorry to hear that you as a family are going through this ordeal. I too had problems with hospitals when my father was dying (unfortunately caused through Macmillan Nurses) and my Dad's GP was fantastic. I had been told to find my father a nursing home as he didn't fit the criteria for a hospice. The fact he had bowel cancer and was dying didn't seem to carry any weight with the McMillan Nurse's opinion. He in fact never made it to the hospice as when I got back from the meeting arranged by Dad's GP he had slipped into a coma. I refused for him then to be moved.

    Have you been in touch with your fathers GP? I am sure he/she will be mortified to hear that someone who was referred back in June is still not being treated in a satisfactory manner. It would just be another avenue to explore.

    I wish your family well and hope the appointment sorts a few problems out. It is hard enough coming to terms with the reality of his illness to cope with all this as well.
